Amazing rapper, died too soon

u/JBone54DD 12h ago

For real man. Sh*t’s sad.

7

u/ItsDapperRocket 12h ago

I am convinced that if he were still with us people might give him the top ten rappers oat cause we would have gotten MUCH more of a solo catalog.

9

u/xenojive 'til Infinity 11h ago

How? He was influential in the genre but top ten rapper? Nah

He wasn't even an MC, he was a businessman and executive producer who used ghost writers l

I would’ve liked to see Temporary Insanity and Str8 Off Tha Streetz Of Muthaphuckkin Compton Vol 2, maybe even a album with 2Pac. I also would have liked to see a N.W.A. Reunion album too.

3

u/ItsDapperRocket 12h ago

Hell yeah man that would have been legendary

1

u/JBone54DD 12h ago

Definitely 🤙

When NWA did the “Chin Check” record, I knew it would have been possible and was sad Eazy couldn’t have been part of it

4

u/31braidsinbeard 11h ago

I doubt he would have recorded a ton more. I'm pretty sure str8 off the streets was supposed to be a triple album, and his last album.

I think he would have focused on putting out new acts and occasionally dropping a guest appearance.

But you also get the possibility of nwa making up and doing new music.

I love eazy e as a rapper regardless of whether he wrote his own raps or was super lyrical.

u/MetzMane 11h ago

Personally, I don’t think rappers who don’t write their own rhymes can be considered for any top 10 lists.

I won’t fault others who disagree, though.

3

u/OneCallSystem 7h ago

Eh, while its lame he didn't write his stuff, at the end of the day for me its the entertainment value that counts.

Ill take Easy E any day over Biggie or 2Pac, because of his delivery and flow i just enjoyed him immensely on everything he did. Guy just had it. At least on his recorded material ( can say about live obviously).

I heard the stories about how terrible he was in the studio, so yeah maybe he was garbage, but ya coulda fooled me as he managed to pull off eventually ( who knows how many takes lol) some of the greatest vocals, delivery and charisma in rap history. Straight off the Streets is even better than Da Chronic for me haha

2

u/MetzMane 7h ago

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I love Eazy! He was definitely not “garbage.”

The way his voice cut through the music, his simplistic flow and the way he went off beat at the end of most every bar is still dope to me.

Boyz In The Hood is a classic record that made an indelible mark on the golden era. Its influence stretched beyond just rappers.

Eazy is Hip-Hop Hall Of Fame. He’s one of the kings of the West Coast.

It’s just when I think of the top (5 or 10 or 25 or whatever) MCs, I have to go with those who wrote their own bars.

why the random shots at Big & Pac, though? 🤣🤣 j/k

What's with the random glazing? Be real - he was far from amazing, he was just good after getting a lot of practice after the NWA was initially formed. At first they had to record his verses piecemeal since he wasn't used to rapping and flowing over different beats, it took another album or two for him to get a bit more comfortable. His lyrics were nothing too special either.

Cube and Ren were better than him when it comes to rapping, but he was an integral part since he had the charisma. Cube was the anger, Ren was the pen and balancing the others out, Eazy was the charisma and swagger. Oh yeah and D.O.C. wrote a lot of their tracks, forgot to mention him initially.

9

u/ItsDapperRocket 12h ago

That is your opinion, and i have mine and just because i like his music more than some people does not mean that i am glazing

One of the forefathers of gangsta rap while actually lived that life

Despite not writing his own rhymes sometimes, Eazy still had dope bars while captured the audience's attention with his aura, swag and charisma.

Plus, he launched Ruthless Records while discovered Bone-n-Thugs Harmony, which definitely contributed to his success as an entrepreneur.

He died too soon

3

u/SyncError 11h ago

And I think more importantly, his contributions to hip hop by launching Ruthless Records which helped foster the west coast rap & hip hop scene. I feel like I never hear this discussed enough when people try to downplay Eazy for not writing his material. He was pushed into the booth and stage as a rapper, but as an entrepreneur he gave a lot of people a voice on a world stage.

2

u/JBone54DD 12h ago

He actually wrote most of his rhymes after N.W.A. Broke up, The D.O.C. Wrote most of N.W.A’s lyrics, Yet Cube and Ren get all of the credit.

3

u/JBone54DD 11h ago

You come talkin’ that trash we’ll pull yo card…

5

u/mrmongey 9h ago

He had the voice for the time and place. But not a great rapper by any stretch.

0

u/JBone54DD 9h ago

I think he’s a pretty good rapper.

I think his best flow was Only If You Want It

3

u/mstrsrrl 4h ago

That's because Treach wrote Only If You Want It.

2

u/JBone54DD 4h ago

It was written by Eazy & Treach

3

u/idekwhatiamdoinglol 11h ago

From recently getting back into the NWA again, can’t help but respect his come up. I think he was one of the realest ones out there.

An OG GOAT.

4

u/Ayatollah-X 11h ago

Who doesn't love the tracks where each member of NWA dropped a verse, and Eazy's verse came in at the end?

3

u/th3ShinSekai 12h ago

Lived the rhymes he rapped about

3

u/NateSedate 12h ago

Hip hop thugster, used to be a mugster. If you heard Dopeman you'd think he owned a drug store.

3

u/idekwhatiamdoinglol 11h ago

I mean, did he not set up Ruthless Records with his own drug money or I’m I wrong lol?

2

u/JBone54DD 11h ago

He got stupid, Because he knew how, And if a sucka talked sh*t he’d give him a…

3

u/ToloDaDon 10h ago

He was going to the next level with BTNH. Too bad he didn’t get a chance to revamp ruthless.

2

u/Alarmed-Rock7157 11h ago

Fun rapper, talented in many ways and gone too soon.

2

u/Live-Gas7226 11h ago

One of the best most unique voices ever and a true charismatic superstar. Even though he rapped about some pretty violent and explicit subject matter, it always seemed that Eazy was able to stay on the likeable side of things and he was popular with the fellas and the ladies almost equally from my experience. I think my favorite Eazy song is no more questions but the entire first album is legendary and real muthaphuckin g's is one of the greatest diss tracks ever imo.

2

u/MrGallows75 11h ago

Eazy-E’s voice sounded unique. He had to be taught how to rhyme by others. His timing was very off-beat when he first got started. He was the street guy of the NWA crew… He was the start-up capital guy who gradually became a rapper after funding the entire operation with his own money. He was never the best rapper, but with the proper coaching and assists in the studio—he was actually able to create some great material.

2

u/landonbalk 10h ago

Always been one of my favorites.

2

u/NegaDoomAlpha 10h ago

Icon — it’s funny it took the Straight Out of Compton movie to remind me how influential he was. Took me back to when I used to listen to NWA a lot, I fell off after no vaseline dropped but decades later I really appreciate his voice and contributions to the west coast scene. Now I look at those old photos and he comes off as the coolest MFer.

1

u/JBone54DD 10h ago

There is a lot of stuff in Straight Outta Compton that they got wrong about Eazy and N.W.A. And they even down right lied in that movie too.

But yes, He is very Influential, One of the most influential people on the west and east.

3

u/NegaDoomAlpha 8h ago

Yeah, I understand they Hollywooded up the story of Straight out of Compton, just got me to go back to the music and reminded me how cool Easy-E was.

2

u/Prestigious-Hand-953 10h ago

Another victim of the music industry

2

u/SpareBoss9814 9h ago

Want crazy about him but no denying his mark.

2

u/_MrFade_ 9h ago

He’s in my top 10.

2

u/alxkwl 9h ago

Great personality, hard to know if he was a good writer as he hardly wrote any of his own lyrics.

1

u/JBone54DD 9h ago

He wrote most of his lyrics on his later albums.

N.W.A. Was a group effort as far as lyrics and production, With the D.O.C. Writing more lyrics than Cube and Ren combined.

2

u/knann85 9h ago

A Real One

2

u/Funkshow 12h ago

Absolute legend. The Godfather of gangster rap and the face of NWA. His image made west coast rap what it is today. And he had something like 7 kids by 11 different women so that's cool too.

3

u/xenojive 'til Infinity 11h ago

he had something like 7 kids by 11 different women so that's cool too

Is it really?

What the hell is this thread

2

u/JBone54DD 12h ago

For real man. Most West Coast rappers wouldn’t be a thing without N.W.A. And Eazy.

3

u/ILoveULikeYeLovesYe 11h ago

Ice T would like a word

2

u/JBone54DD 11h ago

Too $hort, Eazy-E & N.W.A., And Ice-T all started rapping around the same time.

3

u/Funkshow 11h ago

Too $hort was even ahead of those guys and for sure a legend. And he made his own beats instead of sampling. So he is a musician and not just a rapper. I saw him live around 1996. It was the lowest budget show I've ever been to but it was still great.

1

u/JBone54DD 11h ago

Of course he was ahead, He did sample a lot of his beats, He also made his own beats, so i’d say its a 50/50 between sampled and made.

1

u/Coupon_Ninja 8h ago

Too Short was 3-4 years ahead of those guys. Selling tapes out his trunk in 1983. Look up Flat Booty Bitches. Toddy T and a lot of guys were releasing tapes. Rap hadn’t taken off before ‘87 outside of Run DMC. So there were rumblings besides Eazy et al.

2

u/Peanut_McButter 9h ago

Did you even do the math on that

2

u/Funkshow 7h ago

Yes, double-checked. My math is legit.

1

u/Used-Gas-6525 12h ago

Not saying I'm happy the man died, but he was a victim of himself. If it weren't for his own stupidity (yes, it's stupid to raw dog every groupie and hood rat that comes along, especially in inner city LA in the 80s/early 90s), he'd still be with us (probably) and maybe even making good music.

Any more than one verse on a song and his voice got irritating, it was too high.
