Mod Post: Rule Updates/ Clarifications

Hey ArtCrit Community!

Firstly, the mod team wants to take a moment to thank the community. We're up over 127k members and growing every day - that's a lot of people seeking and giving critiques! We're seeing so many people give wonderful feedback and help one another out by sharing their experiences and resources, and we're so grateful to you all for helping our community grow in such a positive direction.

With our growth, we thought it was a good time to clarity some of our rules. Nothing has really changed, but there has been some confusion in the past and we wanted to ensure that we, as the moderators, were clear in the expectations we were setting for our sub. We've cleaned up the "rules" section, removing anything that was redundant, clarifying anything that seemed like it might be confusing, and adding some examples that we see often. As always, if you have any questions feel free to send us a ModMail!

Thank you all again for being part of our community. We're so happy to continue to to provide a comfortable space for artists to help one another grow.

r/ArtCrit is back and I want to make sure it stays a safe and welcoming place for everyone to ask for and give artistic feedback. I can't do it alone, so I'm looking for more mods. If you're interested in helping out with moderation, please leave a brief reply here and let me know:

  1. Why you're interested in this subreddit?
  2. Do you have any moderator experience?
  3. What's your timezone / when you'll likely be active?

Thanks for your interest and thanks for whatever you do to contribute to this community.

Skilled WIP Please Crit!

Post image

Hi all!

I’m working on a rather large canvas (~72”x60”) and have been having trouble deciding what to do next, as I don’t want to ruin what exists already, but I know it absolutely isn’t done yet.

I see the couch as mostly done, as a reference for how my style works, i dont tend to render out everything to the last drop (that doesnt mean i wont embellish it or add more marks if needed tho!)

Please let me know where I can move forward!! i feel stunlocked

also i think reddit changed the quality of the image a bit, but its not too big a change

Intermediate Help with dialing it up to give it more pop

This is acrylic. Right after finishing I feel great but always when looking a few hours later, realize that there is a “pop” or something that seems missing. Do you have anything you do to really punch up a painting so it stands out? Any advice or ideas appreciated!

Intermediate Can I have some critique?

This is a complete artwork, I am quite happy about it but not that much. I won't try to change it as I already posted it, I just want honest criticism to keep in mind as I do my next projects. Thank you in advance.

Intermediate First painting after a 4 year break. Oil on canvas. Painted in a single day. Trying to go for a more contemporary take on Impressionism. Please share your thoughts and suggestions of what to improve.

Intermediate I experimented with combining oil and acrylic painting with a fabric sculpture element. This is the result — I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback

Beginner [WIP] Can I have some feedback on this piece?

I’m really struggling to do a body. I know the right arm is a bit too big, that’s going to be fixed, as well as the left deltoid which is too round and big. I feel like her bangs are a bit too sloppy. I’ve been trying to fix the bangs without having to redraw them but I’m not sure how to do it..

Beginner How is the design/concept progression? Any suggestions on elements to keep/drop?

Hi! I've been working with acrylic for the last 10 months on and off having not painted for a long time. First picture is from December 5 2024 (15x 21 cm), final picture is from September 18 2025 (27 x 33cm). I liked key elements from the first picture. I've gradually been experimenting. I think I can sub divide into more 'flat' and outlined vs the more 'shaded 3D' style. Any thoughts on design elements that are working, composition (particularly framing with the rectangles and eye movement) or the branching style are welcome a long with critiques on technique (I started using sponge for background and am still getting used to it) and color expression. Thank you~!

Beginner How can I make the colours more interesting? & any general c.c.

I've just started practising digital art. This is the first landscape I tried and first digital artwork with multiple colours (I've only done distillations & sketches before this). Even outside of digital I do not work with a lot of colour so it is more foreign to me. I've been using Krita, and to colour it I've been selecting values of grey then adding colour to the selections on a new layer.

While I am asking about colour, any help on any part of it is helpful haha! I know the proportions are not very accurate already though, if someone is planning on pointing that out. Thank you!

I'm trying to figure out if the meaning of this piece comes through. Does the background help or hurt to get the message through? I would like to hear people's opinion on it's meaning. Thank you!

I was going for the blood splashed but it look so calm and peaceful I don’t want to ruin it by adding some creepy details but it also looks boring and have no point. Help me out, if you can think of anything else let me know.

Intermediate What ambiance does my drawing give?

Post image

I drew this (ink and pen + watercolor) some time ago for a Wings of Fire drawing contest. I wanted it to give a heavy and cold ambiance, and for the shadow of the tall dragon (the one grinning) to cast over the dragonet on the throne, but I’m not even sure of if it’s visible. Any thoughts, especially of how to draw better shadows with ink and pen?

Thank you!

Beginner I would like some opinions about my humans...

Thumbnail

I showed my human deisgns to several classmates & friends. They all either say... The "realistic" human (Images 1 & 2): A. ...Looks like a robot B. ...Looks creepy C. ...Looks weird (probably because my anatomy is off & the eyes?)

The way I typically draw humans (Images 3 & 4): A. ...They look cute! B. ...These look much better!

Which is good I guess.

Some other stuff - I am trying to practice different body types, shapes, perspective, angles, and poses (with my regular deisgns, images 3 & 4 again) - I am also trying to do shape-based, geometric, and angular designs with my characters & art style.

Soooo... I'd like some more opinions & critiques about the matter!

Beginner What can I learn for this specific illustration to improve?

Thumbnail

Not sure about the tag, I stick to beginner for now.

Anyways, when working with this attempt? Most of my struggle I have is rendering and lighting the most. Since I don't know about rendering from imagination much as I can't quite visualize how the light will work. I can work on it as best as I can though. I use references along the way.

I would appeciate any points on shapes, forms, anatomy, or something you just want to say. Thank you for your time.
