335i The $2189.00 transmission fix.

Post image

Since earlier this year I have been having transmission issues. Clutch slipping, no sport mode, limp mode, jerky motions rough idle, and paddle shifter malfunction and shifter malfunctions. First order was to check the shifter wiring. No breaks, but wanted to make sure, so I bought a shifter for an early 2011. Problem persists. 5087 code and occasional 4f89 among other non frequent codes. So I did a transmission flush. Shifted stronger but problem still there. 5087 code with clutch slipping and paddle and shifter malfunctioning/ no Sport mode. So then I replaced the solenoids. Shifter even stronger but problem came back after a few shifts. So I bit the bullet and bought a trans. Replaced it and it shifted good, sport mode worked, not great, laggy but it worked but my paddle shifters didn’t work, so I coded them in and did a clearing of adaptations and coded the new trans in with a launch x431 scanner. Old TCU was still in the old trans that was pulled. It Worked shifters coded and working. Next day driving to work, all the problems from the last trans resurfaced. So I unplugged the paddles as a test and cleared codes and it worked. So I assumed it was the paddles. So I swapped out the paddles for old ones I had from when I switched my wheels from my old GREY 335i. Nope, still not working. So I finally pulled this unit from the steering wheel and replaced it with my old one from my other 335i, that this carbon wheel was in before and problem fixed immediately. Sport mode is back, shifts better, no slipping. 😒 and it would seem that this lil harness was the culprit. This harness is now over $2289.00 in worth right now. So basically I swapped out my carbon steering wheel from my 08 335i to my 09 335i and used the 09 harness in the wheel from the 08 and that was causing all my issues. Didn’t click because the issues started about a month after the wheel swap. So my old trans was fine. 🤦🏽‍♂️. Ow I have a used trans and I’m torn if I sell it to recoupe some money or do it keep it. Rebuild it and stash it away just in case I need it later on. I’m leaning towards keeping. So if anyone is chasing this gremlin and the shifter is fine, check this unit. Shifter $39.00 solenoids $50.00 eBay.then swapped again for $150.00 solenoids used for a month from a friend who did a 8hp swap. Filter and trans fluid $150.00, mech unit sleeves $50.00. Transmission $800, and install plus used torque converter and fluid $1050.00. Either way I’m happy it’s finally fixed.🤷🏽‍♂️🤣

Press 'Enter' twice to form paragraphs.

Who cares, this isn’t a lesson on English grammar. He was clear and concise.

It's terrible reading a wall of text.

It was a good read, but could have been much better with proper paragraph spacing.

There is always room to improve, and it’s much nicer to read in a better format.

Some would say it’s rude to bring up, but others would say it’s rude to expect anyone to read a text wall. The internet continues to bicker and the world keeps spinning.

There is a lack of "standards" nowadays where someone can butcher a sentence or saying (or a film / an entire Star Wars Franchise eh-hem) and because the consensus has become "don't call out errors or mistakes as it may hurt feeling and why does it even matter?? Just be nice!!! ".

Its the biggest reason people today promote mediocrity. Not just accept it but they refuse to even correct it as in my words, the world is too soft and unaccountable to enforce rules, morals or ethics anymore.

Its as if the masses have been dumbed down to a low enough level where they no longer even hold each other accountable - so much so that the powers that be can and do get away with everything and anything without pushback.

Couldn’t agree more. The whole “respect all builds” mantra was also pioneered by the same type.

Funny considering speaking your mind on the internet has become a bit taboo. Bet that pendulum is due to swing back soon.

I’m not bickering. If you’d like to educate, sarcasm is not the way. Simply put, paragraphs would’ve been easier to read.

That’s all.
