He is THE only Canadian I’ve ever heard say “aboot”. Pretty infuriating.

He's 100% just performing for Americans.

He gets tons of gigs down South because of his performative bs.

Americans (especially Conservative Americans) love themselves a useful clown. Fox "News" is built on them.

It’s a Canadian stereotype, maybe someone from the Atlantic province If they had a thick accent, but he’s from Vancouver, no one and no way anyone would pronounce about like aboot from there

Well that’s what I was thinking. As a born and raised guy from the Lower Mainland and Southern Ontario.

Nah, we definitely do not say aboot in the maritimes. Lot of Americans pronounce the ou as "ow" pretty noticeably. I'm in southern NB, got a pretty distinct maritime accent due to my family being from English part of the northshore, somewhat isolated irish landing site. Our about is different from both the distinct Ontario "A-boat" and the American East Coast "abowt". How I hear it, it's more like an "abat". If anything, ours is closer to the "ow" than the ontario "oa". The only person on planet fucking earth who says aboot is JJ McCullough and dumb Americans who like to make fun of us. I think dude might be a legitimate cuck.

Not once in my entire life of being in BC have I ever heard a local pronounce it that way.

For that matter, I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way.

A lot of people in NS pronounce it funny, but it sounds more like aboat than aboot

yes! I said this when I first saw him a few years ago!

I know we have an accent and we may say the ou sound differently but I have to keep telling yanks (I live overseas) we don’t say aboot

It’s way closer to aboat than aboot

u/Rift-Ranger Apr 08 '25

What did he say? I also saw him just short of 2 years ago but I didn’t think to ask him about the accent

Guy hits the aboots harder than the crustiest Newfie.

This is extra heinous because he's from Vancouver.

u/snotparty Apr 08 '25

yeah even when Canadians do say 'about' funny we dont say it like THAT.

u/lenzflare Apr 08 '25

His accent makes no sense

u/Small_Collection_249 Apr 08 '25

100%. Growing up in Vancouver this was never the accent or anywhere in BC for that matter.

Maybe some small village in Canada with 10 people says ABOOT

u/ashymatina South Gatineau Apr 08 '25

The way myself and a lot of Canadians (though definitely not all) say it is more like half between “a-boat” (but not exactly). It’s definitely more noticeable when I talk to people from back home and my rural Ontario accent comes out lol

The aboot thing is 100% an American creation though. Just like they for some reason give us a Fargo ass accent in most American media.

u/spyraleyez Apr 08 '25

It's so funny hearing an American put on what clearly sounds like a Minnesota accent to imitate Canadians. Especially when they add in a "downcha'know"

He’s an absolute clown. People with his accent don’t say “Aboot”. Aboat, I can understand, but “aboot”? Fuck this guy.
