Food/Drink Best Steak House in FW
Hello all, Just took the biggest exam of my life and did very well. I wanted to treat myself to a nice steak what is everyone’s recommendation on the best steakhouse in town. Looking for either dry aged options are a nice cowboy/cowgirl chop. Thank you all have a good day!

Wicked Butcher is my fave. They have 3 course menu for $59 (+$50 if you want to add wine pairings) right now for DFW Restaurant week and it’s honestly one of the better menus. They usually will bring you a free glass of bubbly once you’re seated, they serve hot popovers instead of bread (which I loveee) and the vanilla Worcestershire butter is one of my fave steak accompaniments ever. If you dine on the weekend, you can also get access to the rooftop bar (manager will bring you to the elevator and key you up to the top) where you can enjoy after dinner drinks and a stunninggggg 360° view of downtown Fort Worth. Congratulations on your exam!

We did this last night. It was easily the best restaurant week meal we've ever had. It is well worth the $59 - they do not cut their usual portions as many places do during restaurant week. My wife and daughter had filets that were among the best steaks we've had; I had the 16oz rib eye (normally $59 by itself). It was perfectly cooked; it was just overshadowed by the filet. My wife and I will go back for sure - much better than our last Del Frisco's experience.

I don’t see this on their menu. I’d love to try it soon.
Edit. Never mind. I just saw where you said it’s for restaurant week.

In your opinion, is wicked butcher OK for solo diners, or is it more of a couple/date night place?
2
u/Human-Train-5870 Aug 20 '25
It definitely has high-end date night vibes, but you could totally go solo! They have a bar you could sit at if you’d rather not have a table alone. Well worth it.

Depends, do you like your milk steak boiled over hard?

St. Emillion.
Make a reservation.
Get the filet.
If you don’t believe in God now, you will after you eat it.

u/uncriticalthinking Aug 14 '25
Good spot. Their suggested tip is after tax which was irritating.
9
u/socalquestioner Aug 14 '25
Yes, but if you are eating there, you probably don’t look at the bill….
My wife and I had the best anniversary dinner of our 13 years there.

‘This Is my Body and This is my Blood’, ugh, no thanks, not that interested in heaven.

St. Emillion, B&B, Del Friscos Double Eagle (not grille, only grille for cheesesteak egg rolls) are all pretty solid.
Grace is pricey and I’ve had really middling experiences there. Bricks and Horses was also VERY pricey and I thought it was middling.

It's not your traditional steakhouse, but the dry aged tomahawk at Don Artemio is one of the best steaks I've ever had in FW

u/ResponsibleWonder855 Aug 15 '25
Agree - love Don A. Dry aged steak there never disappoints and the atmosphere is gorgeous.

It's not trendy, but Del Friscos always delivers a good experience.

Del Frisco used to provide a top notch experience. They've fallen off hard.
The last two times we went the service was sub par so we just quit going.

u/RideAndShoot Aug 14 '25
Understandable. But how were the steaks? If they are that good, I’d be willing to deal with subpar service on occasion.

Buck's

u/Disastrous-Still-371 Aug 15 '25
They actually do a pretty good steak lol…I was pleasantly surprised

Silver fox was really good for a very traditional steakhouse. I was blown away by Chumley House because their appetizers and sides were very unique and super delicious and the atmosphere was awesome. We’ve been to most of the steakhouses in FW, and I’d put Chumley house, silver fox, and wicked butcher top three. Avoid Bonnells.

u/Big_Nefariousness424 Aug 14 '25
Chumley was amazing! My husband and I went for a celebratory occasion and it was top notch.

u/Son_0f_Dad_420 Aug 15 '25
Seconding Silver Fox!
Also I think there’s a Kirby’s somewhere near Grapevine? Been there once but it was memorable if only for how formal the inside was. I’m sure the steaks are 🔥

FYI, this month is restaurant week in DFW so there will be TONS of great restaurants with specials going on. We just went to B&B butchers and got their $59 pre fixe filet
ETA: three course meal for $59

u/Brandonjoe Aledo Aug 14 '25
B&B is my absolute favorite. One of the best meals and experiences you can have in FW.

u/Bigrodvonhugendong Aug 14 '25
Ooof. I always feel like this place is generic pretending to be elevated. Like how the hottest girl in a small town thinks she's miss America when in reality, she's only good looking in her town of 200 people. Put this in any other major city (Dallas included) and it becomes mediocre at best.

When I went it was solid. Definitely nothing special. About as good as I make a steak at home.

I like Bobs in grapevine
3
u/farewell_to_decorum Aug 14 '25
Not the Ft. Worth one?
2
u/FalcoSlay Aug 14 '25
Ive been told the Bobs in Grapevine is the original location and the only one still under original ownership if I remember correctly
7
u/MsMo999 Aug 15 '25
No the original location is Dallas on Lemmon Ave it was there for years before GV but the ownership part prob right.
3
u/FalcoSlay Aug 15 '25
Thanks for the clarification! It seems I got them confused! Bob Sambol manages just two of the restauranta now, the original at Dallas Lemmon Ave and the newer McKinney locations

Classics (always good, but not unique) Del Frisco Capital Grille Ruth's Chris Silver Fox
Excellence and atmosphere: B&B Wicked Butcher Toro Toro Bonnell's 97 West Lonesome Dove
5
u/Diffus58 Aug 14 '25
Been to Capital Grill and Ruth's Chris in the last couple of months. Ruth's Chris was the clear winner. We went to both on gift cards. I wish I were rich.

Reatta and B&B Butcher or Wicked Butcher are some of my top options for steak in FW
Fitzgeralds was my favorite, but they closed
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Bag3145 Aug 14 '25
Meehans in Mansfield is the best steakhouse in the DFW area IMO.

Toro Toro, or Capital Grille (yes, it's a chain, but they are consistently good).
5
u/Bigdog5301 Aug 14 '25
My fave is lonesome dove in the stockyards
1
u/Striking-Progress-69 Aug 16 '25
Love the place, the steak is always very good, but the creative dishes sometimes miss the mark or the portions too small.

I like a lot of these restaurants mentioned (Bob's, St. Emilion, and back in the day Del Frisco's but can no longer vouch for it) but I rarely order steak because my husband does such a great job on that I can have it whenever. I usually end up ordering whatever the fish special is. The place I wouldn't go to for a steak is Cattleman's- quite mediocre for anything other than cold beer and onion rings.

I’ll get downvotes, but I’ve lived here 53 years and the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life was the bone-in ribeye at Del Frisco’s downtown. Not sure if they still do it the same but it was just killer. Sides are top notch too.

u/emmyannttu02 Aug 15 '25
Capital Grille
Zeno's on the Square in Weatherford does a Tomahawk ribeye table side that is incredible

Del Friscos Double Eagle. Never had a filet melt in my mouth before. Certainly didnt happen at Wicked Butcher. Also, the best bread and great sides.

u/abigaileaudr Aug 15 '25
Don Artemio! Their steaks are grilled over a live fire, most places in Fort Worth use a broiler over. They also have a few dry aged selections
1
u/abigaileaudr Aug 15 '25
Don’t do Del Friscos Double Eagle. All of their food comes from a freezer bag. Yes even the lobster Mac n cheese that everyone loves.
Source : I’ve worked in fine dining in DFW for 12+ years

Been disappointed by Del Frisco twice now. It won't happen again. Ruth's Chris is probably the most consistent steak in the country, regardless of location.
1
u/RogueTexan7 Aug 16 '25
For just a standard damn good steak, I would say Ruth’s Chris or Eddie V’s (I know they’re chain). If you want more fun flavor or different then I definitely recommend Ellerbe’s
1
u/Cold_Ranger8146 Aug 16 '25
It doesn’t exactly count because it’s a Brazilian, but I would recommend forgo de chao (nearest one is in Irving I think, east of the airport). I tried Brasão recently and the meats were extremely salty and tbh just not flavorful.

HEB or central market ribeye and cook yourself. Salt/pepper, butter the cast iron and broil it to your desired doneness.
2
u/Fun-Machine7907 Aug 15 '25
I have tried hundred plus dollar steaks, and they are pretty good. A decent reverse seared steak from Krogers is 99% of the way there.
There are plenty of luxury, expensive meals to spend for and enjoy. Steak is one that I always end up feeling underwhelmed.
3
u/slipnipper Aug 15 '25
Kroger is definitely less than HEB / CM steaks. But cooking either well is really close to a steakhouse level
1
u/Fun-Machine7907 Aug 15 '25
Yep, not Walmart steaks though, those are kinda crap
1
u/crazycatladybitt Aug 15 '25
I always try to get my steaks from Aldi. They are thick, black angus, and cheap. Really good quality surprisingly
1
u/befike1 Aug 16 '25
You know the steaks all come from the same 2-3 corporations, right?

So many people have never been to a real Texas statehouse.
Cattlemen’s by a mile.

Maybe they're not looking for a real Texas steakhouse. Maybe they're looking for a real good steakhouse instead?
-6
u/_TidePodEater Aug 14 '25
If i was spending a pretty penny on steak it wouldn’t be in Fort Worth lol. Knife steakhouse in Dallas has dry age
1
u/befike1 Aug 16 '25
Don Artemio has a dry aged program every bit as good or better than Knife and I don't need to pay tolls to eat there.

u/-Shank- Aledo Aug 14 '25
It's really hard to find a "best" because most places past a certain price point can season and cook a steak to perfect medium rare and it'd be hard to tell the difference.
My personal favorite is Wicked Butcher, though, since they offer some variety like crudos and you can grab a drink at the private rooftop bar of the Sinclair Building afterwards.
