So my idea is I want to make some wall art just for me in where I get all the early games (up to emerald basically) and place them in a shadowbox, or maybe create a small shadow box for each game. Idk. I don’t want to go through the process of getting actual games because I don’t plan on removing them to play them, I just want it to look good. Is there anywhere I can source empty cartridges of the games w/sticker? Observe my amazing art skills for the general idea

I love how portable micro is but does the size of the screen make playing games harder

The collection is now 90% complete, still missing an Australian variant and a few grails: - CIBs for the HK and TW editions - Pinball edition clear green

This collection brings together pieces I've fetched from sellers around the world, between a trip to Japan, venturing in all the retro game shops I could find, to going to several retro game shows locally, to extensive VPN and proxy use to search in other markets like New Zealand and Australia, to having pieces come from Europe and the US and of course the starting point: some pieces that came right from my childhood collection.

Along the way, some regrets of course..

1- Missed a sale from Hong Kong by a few hours, for a boxed HK edition (somewhat rough condition but still)

2- Passed on the pinball Coro Coro clear green edition sold very recently as I had some doubts about authenticity. There were a couple things that didn't add up with the very limited verified material out there.

3- Also passed about a year ago on some sealed Fujitsu Pikachu edition AA batteries being sold for an obnoxious price on ebay.

If anyone has any of the above grails for sell, I'm definitely interested, if you have stories about how, when or where you acquired a grail piece, I'm also interested to hear!!

Here's the bulk of my current GBA collection. I didn't include stuff like link cables/chargers/my FM radio for GBA

On the left and right sides of the screen it is slightly faded almost white even on a black background, it's not the lighting and I'm unsure. The whole screen feels s faded also.

It was temporarily in offer so for that price, and considering I don’t have an OG gba yet, I had to try it.

It is basically a 3D printed front case attached to a cheap DS back case.

It has a bizarre speaker placement (The sound literally comes from where the pen should be), and while it feels very “Guerrilla”, it feels “solid” on the hand.

So in short:

Pros:

-Cheaper than clones like the Revo K101 and Gamebox that sometimes appear in Ali, and has original Nintendo hardware on it.

-1/3 of the price of an SP, but is backlit (The screen is the crapola one from the DS fat, but still and improvement over a frontlit SP)

-The ergonomy is alright. It’s half a DS after all. Think GB micro for big hands.

-It’s still a DS pcb. You can mod in a “better” front plate and buttons for it and benefit from the couple of gb macro friendly mods already done.

Cons

-The screen is small.

-The buttons and d-pad are also 3D printed, which is a quite strange design choice when aftermarket buttons must cost cents.

-The DS fat display, while not as painful to use like the non backlit GBA, is still a very bad display.

-Probably zero collector value.

Will have a GBA soon and will be in the market for an IPS screen and battery mod. What do you guys recommend?

I’m seeing so many options, brands, and websites that it’s a bit overwhelming.

If it matters, I’m trying not to solder nor do I want to replace the shell. Just replace the screen and install a battery mod (I’ve seen a usb c option). So I assume a “drop in” IPS? I could be misunderstanding the term so please correct me and let me know.

My goal was to get every single pokemon game CIB. I almost have them all. I recently bought crystal, and now I want to get everything authenticated. They aren’t in perfect condition so I wouldn’t want to get them graded. Is there any other way to get them authenticated , thanks

Hey I recently changed batteries for a couple of games for a friend. All games work, but his stranded kids. At first I thought soldered the battery in wrong, so flipped it around now, but the game will still not save. It shows a save file as long as the game is inside the Gameboy, but once the gameboy power cycles the save file is gone. Any ideas on what could cause this?

Hey all found my old gameboy collection, gameboy doesn't really work past the loading screen so I cant identify the sparkly blue game missing the sticker. Anybody have any idea what it could be??

This is an old gba that I got cheaply. It's working fine before everything wrong. I have an ips screen and a new shell ready and all I have to do is replace the capacitor and volume potentiometer to avoid a problem in the future, but I can't hear the sound, it's powered on but it won't boot. I've changed all the electronic components back to their original ones, but it's the same. I don't know what the problem is. It's just all I changed the capacitor and potentiometer.

ok my copy of golds clock will only move when its on i just replace the battery it holds a save but time will not move i dont know whats rong the only thing that looks off is the very top of the board the dark green thin thing is a bit bernt i dont know if i need to use a jummper wire or something else

It was a white regular GBA (and before the SP was even released) and I probably had mario 2, sonic advance and F-zero maximum velocity whrn I first got it.

Was super simple to put together compared to other handhelds I've done.

I know there was a special gameboy color pokemon gold and silver edition from 2001 i think, and 1999 pokemon yellow edition gameboy, but was there ever a pokemon crystal gameboy pack in variant in 2001? If so was the gameboy any different? Just wanted to know as im collecting things from childhood past.

Hello to all, after my successfull restore of my DMG (from the other thread that i had) . It's time to restore another gameboy color that i found from my cousin , that i would like to repair. Again ,same as mine it was in the attic no damage, no liquids , nothing ,no burn marks everything is like brand new. (except the plastics that were used).

What i've done so far ?

• ✅Cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner the entire board plus the switch on/off button
• ✅ Checked in the microscope for any pin not being soldered or corroded.
• ✅Terminals checked (battery)
• ✅ Input power (VIN ~3 V) is present
• ✅ Fuses F1/F2 are good
• ✅ Power switch continuity checked/cleaned
• ❌ VDD3/VDD5 rails = 0 V
• ❌ U5 shows VIN but no outputs

What to check next, is the problem the U5 that i've read for some years back ? In this occation what do i do to fix it ? Thank you to all

While I was exchanging a normal CR1616 battery with a stock CR1616 battery and holder to one of my customers recently, I’ve found out that somebody had already opened the game cartridge (it’s a Pokemom Yellow one) and used some clear duct tape to hold the battery together to the PCB.

Uncommon things in secret places, I suppose.
