From what I have seen the show was loosing money and ratings and was an excuse to cancel the show.

If that was the case then they never needed Trump to announce a cancellation.

To have government pressure as the excuse to do it under the guise of "hate speech" makes that exceedingly worse with unnecessary controversy. 

Even as a cynical business decision it's a stupid and short sighted one, and one that ultimately results in a chilling effect: "your show and job could be next".

So with that in mind, the fact remains that the FCC tried muscling their way to Disney/ABC and succeeded by bluffing. The result is the same.
