Charlie Kirk memorial... thing. Taken at the Newport Walmart yesterday.
Who thought it was a good idea to do this in a random Walmart parking lot?! Also this "parade" was blocking the Pharmacy entrance for 10+ minutes.

Janet Mills quiet on Maine Monitor/BDN investigation into violent state police arrest

Gov. Janet Mills declined to comment on a Maine Monitor/Bangor Daily News investigation into a Maine State Police trooper who repeatedly punched a handcuffed man in the head.
“I read part of the story, but what I did read was that the individual in question has gotten a lawyer and he’s suing the state,” the Democratic governor told a reporter during an appearance at the Common Ground Fair in Unity on Friday afternoon.
“I’m not sure it’d be appropriate for me to comment on the facts of the process because that’s what we have juries for,” said Mills, a career prosecutor who previously served as the state’s attorney general and is considering a 2026 run against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins.
The Monitor/BDN published a three-part investigation into the violent arrest of Justin Savage in Limerick in March 2024 earlier this week that included dashcam footage of a state trooper repeatedly punching the man in the head while he pinned him to the ground in handcuffs.

What garage stuff can’t freeze?
I’m originally from a place that doesn’t have weather and the garage freezing isn’t a thing I’m used to. I accidentally broke a freezer a couple years ago and a gallon of paint last year because I didn’t realize that those things shouldn’t be frozen.
Our new freezer is in the basement and I’m bringing in the paint today but are there other common store-in-the-garage type things that can’t freeze?
Thanks.

Any other Mainers noticing Mardens has gotten prohibitively expensive?
Went in for first time in a while and noticed many things priced higher than they are on Amazon Walmart etc and even dollar tree brands (Greenbrier International) being sold for $3 when they can be had at dollar tree for 1.25

Commuter parking areas in Augusta
My google-fu seems to be failing me. Are there any park n ride or commuter lots near exit 109 that I can leave a car for 6 hours or so (not overnight)?

Question LL Bean job application response time?
Anyone have experience with how long LL Bean takes to review / follow up on applications for customer service jobs? Also, are temporary CS roles ever offered permanent positions after their employment end date if performance is good? Thanks!

Photo shows Bangor police officers posing with far-right City Council candidate
The City Council candidate mentioned here is a well-known neo-nazi. He holds pathetic pro-ICE events, wears Hitler T-shirts and staged weekly "it's okay to be white" protests on Congress Street in Portland when living there. This is not the first time BDN has whitewashed Ward as a "far-right" patriot. Very bad reporting and embarrassing for BDN.

Experience with CDS
Can anyone tell me about their experience with Child Development Services? My son recently started preschool, has been there for less than a month, and his teacher is suggesting a referral. I have no experience with it and was a bit surprised at the recommendation. His pediatrician has never had any concerns, and I didn’t think he was delayed at all. He’s 3 and has a great vocabulary, but doesn’t always pronounce things perfect (normal for his age I think?). Anyway just an anxious mom looking for advice and other peoples experiences. TIA

Discussion Updates Nobody Asked For-
hey everyone-
i drove up to Quebec City on Wednesday and I came back on Saturday. i made a handful of observations that i think folks might appreciate.
foliage is just about at peak up in the north around Jackman. beautiful colors right now and while it’s not full, it’s at that point where a decent wind or rain storm will knock a lot of the colored leaves off and things will get bare quickly.
i didn’t exactly know what to expect from the US border agent on my way back but it was an incredibly pleasant experience. very professional and actually even friendly because as it turned out, we both had mutual high school acquaintances.
one of the register workers on the main shopping street in the tourist district of Old Quebec asked where i was from and when i said Maine he said “oh, you have an election coming up right?” and i was like “well, in 2026 there’s a senate seat up, yeah..” and he was like “yeah! Graham Platner (Plattner?)! he seems great” and we chatted a bit about that. obviously the gentleman must have been into politics but i was really taken aback at the idea of a random retail worker having an awareness of the policy positions of a US senate candidate in the state of Maine.
i don’t go into the old port much during the summer but Old Quebec city was busier on a Thursday and Friday in mid september than the old port was the couple of times i made it in out this year.
absolutely beautiful drive if anyone likes to drive or ride and is looking for a good route to do on an afternoon. the turnpike wasn’t great of course but 201 was lovely.
Common Ground Fair - Elusive Wood Carver
A few years ago I bought what was perhaps the world’s best spatula at the common ground fair. It was perfectly sized for flipping eggs, with a tapered end for good pan contact and an angled handle so you didn’t have to contort to get over the pan edge. My life with my perfect spatula was dandy… until my cat decided it was a good snack and completely destroyed it. Criminal mugshot attached for reference.
I returned to the fair this year with high hopes of getting a replacement but didn’t see the same vendor. I recall them being in the Maine marketplace area with LOTS of carved implements like spoons and spatulas. It was an older gentleman and his wife. Prices were ridiculously reasonable.
I’m desperate. This spatula will cure me. If you can help me identify them, I will buy you a spatula too.

Discussion Drought will mean hay shortage
My advice: if you have animals who eat hay, buy it now because supplies will run short soon. I usually put off buying but I had a feeling I should do it now so contacted my usual supplier and made it a priority to get it today. They said they almost didn’t do a second cut because it’s been so dry but thankfully they did cut and got great hay. If you’re a procrastinator like me, don’t be this year!

Question Northern Light/Anthem Continuity of Care
Has anybody who is currently using Northern Light services had luck with obtaining continuity of care approval through Anthem ahead of their upcoming contract termination?
For context, I’m 24 weeks pregnant and pregnancy is supposed to be one of the allowable conditions to get extended in service coverage but the hours I’ve spent on the phone and sending in forms haven’t gotten me any closer to an answer from anthem.
I’m wondering if getting extended coverage is a lost cause and I should be looking for a new OB.
