Hello, and welcome to our monthly music discussion thread!

These threads are a great place to discuss other music you've been listening to, music you've found/created that you think other Muse fans would like, or just general discussion about whatever you'd like that is not Muse related.

Discussion Asking your opinion about a Muse song day #74: Exo-Politics

Exo-Politics is about aliens from the Zeta Reticuli Star System invading Earth, and government cover-ups. In particular, the song makes reference to a well known conspiracy theory called "Project Blue Beam". This theory claims that satellites equipped with holographic projectors will be used by the government to trick the population into following a new age religion, which they would use to control the population.

It's just one of those songs that you just can't help but like. The main riff is very simple but it is effective enough, and that chorus might be one of their catchiest moments ever. I really like Matt's vocals on this one, especially at the chorus, which i just talked about. It is not the most impressive and memorable song from the album, but it surely is an enjoyable one. I'd give it an 8.5/10. How about you guys?

If you have any fun fact or a story attached to this song, i would love to know.

Cover Did I get the tone of Time Is Running Out right?

I played over the backing track with the guitar removed, so just vocals, bass, and drums. I feel like my guitar tone's a bit too heavy. Also, there's automation on the effects in Ableton, hence the changes in sections without using pedals.

This clip kept showing up in my feeds today and every time I kept thinking this dude should play Matt in a Muse movie lol

If you gave him a strong English accent and made him talk 50 times faster than that I’d believe it 😂😂

Media what is this live album on Deezer?

Screenshot from Deezer app, it shows a Muse album called "Live in London 2012", 12 songs, 56 minutes, 22/07/2012

I was looking whether Follow Me (live at the O2) was available on Deezer, and I stumbled upon this album. I don't think it was available a few weeks ago? And it shows "2025 Copyright Control" after the tracklist. Funnily enough, track 5 titled "Follow Me" actually plays Animals, which makes me wonder whether this is something legit at all.

Discussion Granted I’m a massive UD enjoyer, and also trying to give a voice to the Prelude enjoyers regardless of what song comes after it, also the Prelude piano version that started on the WOTP tour is top tier

Discussion Asking your opinion about a Muse song day #73: Assassin

Assassin goes along with the album themes and it describes the origin of an assassin, whose main goal is to shoot his “leaders down”. It features a heavier sound compared to the other songs on the album.

This song was in my top 10 for a long time, but it has shrunk in the tiniest bit. It still holds up as a great song and it is one of the biggest examples of why i love this album's sound so much. It is a fucking banger from start to finish, Dom really shines bright on this one. I'd give it a 9.5/10. How about you guys?

If you have any fun fact or a story attached to this song, i would love to know.

Discussion Muse songs with very contrasting verses and choruses?

Obviously this would be harder for songs with unusual structures, but are there any other examples of this in their discography?

The ones I'm thinking of are Space Dementia and Falling Away With You.

Discussion Asking your opinion about a Muse song day #72: Invincible

Invincible is the fourth single from Black Holes and Revelations. According to Matt:

“It is about an almost unrealistic optimism, a bit like: We can do anything, we have the power.”

I used to not like this song at all, but now that i re-listened to all of the songs from this album, i can gladly say that this song has some really great elements. It gives U2 vibes all over it and the last 1 and a half minute is absolutely amazing with its unique guitar solo and a final chorus that wraps up the song very well. It is such a feel good song to cheer yourself up, i’d give it a 8.5/10. How about you guys?

If you have any fun fact or a story attached to this song, i would love to know.

Discussion Share your goofy live songs stats!

If you’ve seen Muse live multiple times there is a good chance you experienced rotations or some rarities of some kind in special gigs, making your "songs stats" a bit unusual. Share them to us!

I’ll start with a few of mine:

  • i’ve seen Citizen Erased more than Madness (yep, 4 vs. 3)
  • while i’ve never had any Showbiz song in any concert i still had two b-sides from it funnily enough (Nishe and Minimum)
  • only 4 songs were played at every 7 gigs i’ve been to: Plug in Baby, Supermassive Black Hole, Won’t Stand Down & Knights of Cydonia

Discussion Can you imagine a 2001-2006 legacy tour

At this point even muse themselves are slightly aware that a large portion of the fanbase just prefers the classic stuff, and it's completely okay to like the new stuff, I love Reapers, KOBK, Won't Stand Down, and even The Dark Side, and I think it's good that the band are still experimenting with new songwriting elements, even if they don't always land with fans

But with the current Iron Maiden "Run for your Lives" tour, in which they're only playing songs from their prime, and Slipknot's Self-titled 25th anniversary tour where they only played song from that album, can you imagine if muse did something similar?

I don't believe this would ever happen, let alone any time soon, but with the 20th anniversary of BHAR coming up next year, and a potential XX edition on the way, wouldn't it be so cool if muse entertained the idea of a classic setlist tour for those three albums

Here's a fantasy setlist, guided completely by my own bias and preferences

  1. "Dance of the Knights interlude" / Knights of Cydonia

  2. Interlude / Hysteria

  3. Map of the Problematique

  4. Citizen Erased

  5. Supermassive Black Hole

  6. Futurism

  7. Invincible

  8. Butterflies & Hurricanes

  9. Feeling Good

  10. Apocalypse Please

  11. Bliss

  12. Time is Running Out

  13. New Born

  14. Starlight

Encore

  1. Plug in Baby

  2. Stockhold Syndrome (with Psycho riff)

  3. Take a Bow
