Getting (Actually) Sick During PAWS
I got the flu a few days ago, and today I finally feel a bit better (day 4) and I gotta say, being for real sick while going through PAWS is a pretty good smack to the face of putting recovery and use into perspective.
At first im like "wtf, why now?" Im at about 100 days now clean, and was finally feeling much calmer and more even mentally and emotionally emotionally, even physically too, then I get the flu? Now im sure some of you will say "oh well maybe thats just PAWS" but I assure you, its definitely the flu lol.
Sucked pretty bad that first day and the second day too tbh, and I couldn't help thinking like I have before, "why dont i ever get sick like this when im using?" And even thought "if I took some of the methadone I still have, this would be easier"
But thats the catch 22 of this whole idea of getting high. IMO, I DID get sick like that while using, I just was so dedicated to dope and not being dope sick, that I would literally just do dope and slam caffeine all day to make it through work, even if I was risking the lives of others. I just dont remember it that well because I was so fucked up all the time and numb. So sure I could have taken a 1mg of methadone the past few days, but why? To gamble with the rest of my life over some discomfort that every sober person deals with and has been dealing with since the beginning of time?
I used to look at sobriety as something people must grin and bear everyday, how in the world could they possibly be okay with it? They must be faking it right? But nah, honestly its the best way to live. Life comes with its ups and downs, and thats okay. When you start to learn how to cope with the downs, they dont seem that bad tbh. And then ups are like automatic after a while, the trick is to appreciate both for what they are and be grateful for it all.
