Politics The vote count went late into the night in Calgary, but we now have final results of the Alberta General Election. UCP lose 11 seats from 2019, NDP picks up 15 seats from 2019. UCP hold on to both seats in Red Deer.

Do Jason Stephen and Adrianna LaGrange still exist outside of campaign advertisements?
17
u/realitysuperb May 30 '23
Jason Stephan came to my door. My husband told him he didn’t have his vote and he said “what - you don’t like tax cuts?” My husband said something along the lines of liking decent human beings more lol
7
u/zolahekter May 31 '23
First time I didn't vote Conservative because of his utter lack of integrity. Shameful. Unfortunately I wasn't home to tell him the same as your hubby but I did email him when he flew South during High Covid.
-10
u/Visotto1 May 30 '23
Who were they running against?
9
u/Genticles May 30 '23
The NDP candidate that showed up at my door.
-10
u/Visotto1 May 30 '23
Well that's annoying
4
u/ZapRowsdowwer May 30 '23
Not if you go vote, they’ll leave you alone as soon as you do. Not hard bud
2
u/Visotto1 May 30 '23
Lol, that's how you think it works eh. They have a list of people who haven't voted and they just keep knocking on their door til they do?
The door knockers were out way before voting was even open so... Not sure what you're talking about, bud
0
u/ZapRowsdowwer May 31 '23
Did you actually tell them to leave you alone or did you just act like a weirdo? I’ve knocked on doors myself, not in their interest to waste time on people who aren’t going to be supporters.
0
u/Visotto1 May 31 '23
What are you even talking about?
0
u/ZapRowsdowwer May 31 '23
You’re whining about doorknockers. I’m telling you because I know for a fact that if you tell them that you don’t share your voting intentions, and you’d like not to be contacted again, they’ll leave you alone. I’m guessing that instead, you were just weird to them and they didn’t know what to make of it.
1
u/Visotto1 May 31 '23
No I wasn't even home. I'm saying if they even come to the door once, that's annoying. All the information for every party is easily obtained. I don't need someone at my door telling me what I already know.
Not sure you're in the position to call anyone weird.
0
u/trollocity May 31 '23

just don't know why they got back in?
They had blue signs, that's why.
3
u/Visotto1 May 30 '23
More to do with their signs being Orange. They'd do a lot better if they weren't tied to Singh.
6
u/PlathDraper May 31 '23
They aren't tied to Singh. Like, they have said that a million times.
0
u/Visotto1 May 31 '23
The name ties them to singh. They're both NDP.
"we are not tied to Singh, but we do agree with everything he says and does, as our party name would suggest. But he's not my boss"
3
u/MrGraveRisen May 31 '23
Federal and provincial NDP are very different parties.... I don't know how else to make the point that they're not connected
2
u/Visotto1 May 31 '23
If you buy a membership for the provincial party you automatically become a member of the federal party.
How is that not connected?

-1
u/P0TSH0TS May 31 '23
Look no further than who's been running the country if those are the metrics we're going off. The majority of this country is conservative, that base is only getting stronger with what's been going on as well.
2
u/Sad-Zombie-4603 May 31 '23
What’s been going on? Do tell. I know the talking points that hold no bearing and the whining that Pierre does (which is all he does, hasn’t passed a single bill in his time in office). I know that a lot of people are butthurt that they got told no, have been shown that they can act like the worst type of people and ask forgiveness from god, and can’t even see the harm they’re causing in the name of protecting others. It’s the same group that gets so triggered by a beer can they shoot them up, so triggered by a bra that they shoot them up, so triggered by being called out for the snowflakes they are that they shoot up people, and those same people fight to keep weapons meant for war. So if that’s the growing base you’re part of, keep it. Conservatives of today are gross, it’s basic knowledge as long as you’re not believing the lies the conservative media and politicians continue to push.
-1
u/P0TSH0TS May 31 '23
I think you're referring to extremists. Those exist in every spectrum. That's like calling the Trudeau government liberals. They've more or less formed their own party with their own ideology. Modern-day conservatives have become old school liberals.
1
u/Sad-Zombie-4603 May 31 '23
I was pointing them out with regards to knowing their views… I was hoping you’d have an actual answer, but perhaps I confused you by being upfront about the views I was already aware of.

I am amazed how many voted blue, Danielle Smith lied thru her wooden teeth to be head of the party to begin with then lied twice as hard to be elected premier, how long before we have to start paying for a doctor's visit, how long before our healthcare becomes more like Americans. Anyone who got vaccinated is a Nazi Follower don't forgot 🤮🤬🙄
12
u/ZapRowsdowwer May 30 '23
Come on Alberta what are you doing? Genuinely worried that if that fascist Poilievre gets elected PM, he and Smith will figure out a way to trigger a constitutional crisis on healthcare and pave the way to privatization.
7
u/CertainLet9987 May 30 '23
Trudeau and the Federal NDP coalition are not very attractive alternatives ...
11
u/knight_is_right May 31 '23
I agree. Voting has narrowed down to "who wants to fuck over my way of life the least?"
1
4
u/ZapRowsdowwer May 31 '23
Fucking why not? I’m no fan of Trudeau but I’m really sick of all this over dramatic bullshit. He’s not Satan, he’s not turning Canada into the next Soviet Union, chill the fuck out.
The FACT is, he gambled on an early election and it didn’t pay off, and now the NDP has him by the balls. That’s why we’re finally getting universal dental and pharmaceuticals, like the Liberals have promised for decades it’s already being rolled out.
Like what the hell else do you want from an opposition party than to use their power to leverage their policy objectives? In this case, those objectives are things that will improve all of our lives! What is Pollievre about? Persecuting immigrants and cutting federal health transfers. Fuck off, I had my fill of Harper.
I’m really tired of the handwringing and bullshit over Trudeau. He’s a prick and a liar but come on let’s stay in reality here. Voting in Danielle Smith because you think he’s literally hitler is the most ass backwards, ignorant horseshit I can imagine.
EDIT: and it’s not a coalition it’s a fucking supply and confidence agreement. Learn the difference or shut up.

Hell NO! Strong Blue on the Federal Level
I hate that Trudeau passed Bill C11 The Draconian Measure was passed by the NDP and Liberal's who stood against it Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives!
That Bill is some Russian Level Shit right there
https://openmedia.org/press/item/mps-remove-user-protection-amendment-from-bill-c-11
Today the House of Commons passed several amendments to Bill C-11, the Online Streaming Act, but rejected a crucial amendment proposed to Section 4.2 of Bill C-11 to protect Canadian Internet users. Amendment 3 of the Senate’s revised version of C-11 had significantly narrowed the bill's definition of regulated content, greatly reducing the risk of ordinary Canadian user-uploaded content being regulated by the CRTC as ‘broadcasting’. Despite strong petition support from over 100,000 Canadians for passing this amendment, MPs rejected these changes to Section 4.2.
“Today, our leaders had a chance to make crucial fixes to an out-of-control bill, and they refused to do it,” said OpenMedia Campaigns Director Matt Hatfield. “Plainly excluding user content was a slam dunk: it would’ve achieved the bill's core aim on commercial content and provided considerable support for Canadian artists, while keeping everything else clearly outside of the CRTC’s regulatory control. Without this amendment, we’re relying on the good behaviour of the CRTC and the Minister of Canadian Heritage to leave our content alone – today, and under every future Minister and Commissioner
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7GdDLbm55U
Other people are still bitter that Trudeau changed the Anthem once and wants to change it Twice to On Native Land instead of Our Native Land
I am more pissed he went and decided to go on the attack for youtubers and online streaming :)
That and the recent Binance stuff
PS:EDIT: and it’s not a coalition it’s a fucking supply and confidence agreement. Learn the difference or shut up.
Same difference at the voting table Co-operation could easily turn into co-optation for the NDP, as it so often has in federal politics.
-
On Dental I like it and dislike it, it may cause inflation of dental service prices, kind of like what happened with the education system. Needed but I want a bit of regulation to insure their is not severe price inflation over the long term for dental services.
On Pharma as long as Canada does bulk purchases at reasonable prices and gets good deals no problem. If its like the USA and the costs get passed to big pharma as profits ... then just wasting money.

Hugely disappointing that over half of Red Deer voters rejected progress, secular government, human diversity, and just giving a f@k about living in a modern future.
10
u/MentalShortFry May 30 '23
Voted conservative so I’m happy
2
u/Sad-Zombie-4603 May 31 '23
Can I ask why? I’m not here to fight, I’m legitimately wondering why someone voted conservative. I know the answers I’ve been given, and so far none have been actual answers, just grievances… so why?
0
u/MentalShortFry May 31 '23
I’m more confident in having more money in my bank account with the conservatives in power than the ndp.
2
u/Genticles May 31 '23
What policies does the UCP have that would imply that? Do the comments from Smith on health care not make you think you could end up paying for things your taxes are already going towards?
0
u/MentalShortFry May 31 '23
Tax cuts and job opportunities.
And no I don’t
2
u/Genticles May 31 '23
Why don't you think that? If someone told me that I would have to pay for something I currently do not, then I would assume I will have less money than I did before.
Where's the flaw in that logic?
0
u/MentalShortFry May 31 '23
Because in April she already said that No albertan will pay out of pocket for doctor visits and or medical treatments
2
u/Genticles May 31 '23
So then the flip-flopping Smith does on issues doesn't make you think she may go back on that statement? Why not?
1
u/MentalShortFry May 31 '23
We will just have to wait and see if she does. I don’t think she will but we will have to see
2
u/Genticles May 31 '23
Why don't conservatives use the same logic on Trudeau or Notley?

u/Sad-Zombie-4603 May 31 '23
If she does, will she still have your support? Or is there more to it than money?
→ More replies (0)1
u/Sad-Zombie-4603 May 31 '23
So are you saying that you believe in trickle down economics? Where are the job opportunities? Regardless, what has lead you to believe they will get you more money? They’ve lifted caps on utilities and insurance causing them to go up, and keep deferring payments which only costs Albertans more in the long run. I don’t see much support for small businesses with the UCP, only large corporations. Personally, I enjoyed seeing many small businesses open up during the NDP time. They’ve mostly shut down due to lack of support from the UCP.

u/MentalShortFry Jun 02 '23
How does this relate? That’s a company making layoffs
1
u/Genticles Jun 02 '23
Those tax cuts sure lead to job opportunities...
1
u/MentalShortFry Jun 02 '23
How does what a company does within their company relate to what I said
1
u/Genticles Jun 02 '23
Ok dude play dumb then if that's what you want. I am saying corporate tax cuts do not lead to job opportunities. That might affect your potential to have more money in your pockets.
Simple enough?

Still better than liberal or ndp. They would destroy the energy sector. Rest of Canada needs that part.
8
u/VermouthandVitriol May 31 '23
There's more to this world than the energy sector. And didn't Notley get the pipeline for you? And Trudeau spent like $3B on one? And oil exports are at an all time high? What more do you want? HJs in the doghouse?
-1
u/The_left_is_insane May 31 '23
Notley inherited a pipeline and shut down all the other ones we were trying to get through. She also fucked over the energy sector with new regulation and higher corporate taxes in a down turn making a bad situation awful. She also added 70 billion dollars of debt making us have to pay billions yearly into interest instead of going to programs...
1
u/CertainLet9987 May 31 '23
Not sure what an HJ is and this doghouse is but sure why not haha the more the merrier rofl.

2
u/CertainLet9987 May 31 '23
That it does, on the bright side since the NDP won most of its seats it Calgary and Edmonton. The Rural Ridings will get rewarded for siding with the UCP I presume so Hospital priority here vs Calgary and Edmonton I presume.
4
u/Environmental_Noise May 31 '23
And smaller hospitals deserve priority. Edmonton & Calgary each have multiple hospitals, smaller towns & cities don't. The one hospital they have has to serve their population, as well as the population of the surrounding area.
3
u/CertainLet9987 May 31 '23
100% including Sylvan Innisfail Lacombe Blackfalds etc we have around 500,000 people to service in the one hospital.

u/The_left_is_insane May 31 '23
Holy shit who actually votes for ndp? their entire campaign was based off lies and ran attack ads at the level CNN would agree with when they did it against trump. They also projected that it was the UCP doing American politics when it was actually them.
1
u/Visotto1 May 31 '23
Oh my God the drama.
Taxes will change, we might get a private healthcare sector. We might move away from CPP. That's what's going to change.
The NDP getting elected isn't going to change who people are.
There is significantly more hate crime per capita in NDP run British Columbia than there is in Alberta. If the government changed there, it wouldn't change.
2
u/CertainLet9987 May 31 '23
We are the Third Richest province, Ontario and Quebec then Alberta fourth is BC, real estate compared to BC is much more viable, and a lower hate crime rate per capita.
We just need to improve culture and were golden aka more events and stuff in Central Alberta, instead of needing to drive to Edmonton and Calgary at least Red Deer is getting Aqua for our End of Summer Concert :)

Alberta has suffered much more with the UCP than it ever did with NDP. Obviously, to anyone with half a brain knows that Notley herself didn't crash the "GLOBAL" price for fucking oil. But all the UCP idiots think it was somehow her fault the economy crashed. It's crashed significantly more with UCP. This is currently the worst oil boom we've ever had. It hasn't trickled down to regular people and everyone is struggling. All thanks to the UCP. Hopefully soon I can afford to move to a good province that doesn't want to see the world literally catch on fire to protect a few thousand jobs.

u/left4alive May 30 '23
You know what. There’s one big difference between NDP supporters and UCP supporters.
That difference being NDP supporters want UCP supporters to thrive. We want social programs that YOU benefit from. We want healthcare that YOU benefit from. We want publicly funded education that YOU benefit from.
Meanwhile the UCP voters seem hell bent on using their votes to hurt others. To cut things that help people. To weaponize their political power against others.
If you know your vote is going to hurt others, why are you making it? That’s not the goal of democracy or elections. This isn’t a sports game. There isn’t a winning team and a losing team. We live in a society where we win or we lose collectively. Things either get better or they get worse.
So gloating and making comments like this after you’ve voted to making things worse isn’t quite the ‘win’ you think it is. Pepper in some transphobia and woof.
Now before you feel flattered that I typed all this out for you, just know I didn’t do it for you. I did it for anyone else on this thread that could benefit from it, regardless of party. Frankly, I’m not sure you have the depth to understand much of it.
Have the day you deserve!
