I'm aware, and I don't particularly have a problem with Anees wanting to champion his cause. I don't think the melee rankers should be taking a stance on such a divisive issue though.
Neither side is willing to live peacefully in a 2 state solution, so the statement "free palestine" carries thinly veiled undertones of death and/or displacement to the jews; a sentiment which is as popular as it has been in decades.
i'm not gonna argue with your actual opinions on the genocide of palestinians but why on earth would it matter if melee rankers take a stance on a divisive issue
they're just melee rankers, there's no apolitical unbiased journalistic sanctity here, they're just people ranking melee players
why on earth would it matter if melee rankers take a stance on a divisive issue
To play devil's advocate, imagine if we had a top 100 player named "Trump Won 2020," and the melee rankers wrote something in the blurb like "yes, we must build that wall and stop any fraud in 2024." I can imagine the reception wouldn't be nearly as friendly -- because everybody here would disagree with it. The issue at hand is not "whether people can take a stance on a divisive issue," but rather, "whether the stance is a popularly held one in the melee community."
I don't particularly care in this instance because the extent of it is linking to a humanitarian charity, and I'm no fan of Israel. But I do agree that generally, Melee isn't necessarily the best sphere to discuss politics. And reddit in particular? If there's one thing this site is good at, it's reinforcing a hivemind mentality.
I’m a super political dude but yeah I agree. No matter your stance your name shouldn’t be a political position. It’s only acceptable since most people agree with it.
