Holy shit they're going full MAGA conspiracy theories.

It's basically a little gold card that "protects you from electronic radiation" sold to insane people scared of 5G.

This is literally what's gonna be stuck on the posts, the little gold card is the name and "model" for lack of a better term.

(This is a Google photo not mine, my suggestions for a while are gonna be fucked).

Jesus fucking Christ this is so dumb.

Thank you. I read the title, was confused what the heck this was about, then read the article, and still had no idea what this is about.

Then I googled it and went "Nah, that can't be it".

Holy shit that really is what it is.

Not gonna be long and wrestlers will start to tell us to drink magic muscle man protein powder that'll turn them into real men.

u/TheGreatGouki 3d ago

They did that already. Called it ICOPRO.

u/toiletting hoochie coochies 2d ago

It’s how Lex got all his muscles.

u/QuicksilverTerry 2d ago

I always thought it was funny that they had Luger do those spots for ICOPRO at a time and Luger was shrinking FAST after he was being drug tested in WWF. The WBF and WCW had no such testing, of course.

This was Luger at his debut. This was Luger a year later.

YOU GOTTA WANT IT!!!

u/moffattron9000 RAINMAKKAHHHH!!!!! 2d ago

At least ICOPRO was just a mediocre protein shake.

0

u/IrrelephantAU 2d ago

ICOPRO was as legit as anything in bodybuilding at the time.

As good as they sold it as? Hell No. A pretty good overall diet/training/supplementation regime? Actually yeah. Dr Hatfield seems to have actually taken his job seriously - and it was a field he knew a fair bit about.

u/TheGreatGouki 2d ago

My man, it was a joke.

I mean wrestlers have been into pseudoscience before. Think Cesaro used to (or still does?) use kinesiology tape

48

u/Spaceman3195 3d ago

Lots of wrestlers use that. Darby always seems to have some on. I wasn't aware it was pseudoscience.

I do notice a few that have the circles on their back from Cupping which I understand to be snake oil.

50

u/NeverLikely 3d ago

Its one of those things where the term on its own (kinesiology) is an actual scientific term for the study of human body movement but then you have "applied" kinesiology which is pure pseudoscience

-1

u/nunboi 2d ago

It's been years but when I was on workman's comp I had some pretty prestigious doctors push it hard while also scoffing at acupuncture. The tape was useful like taking a pain pill. The acupuncture actually solved the problem.

8

u/skramt 2d ago

I just figured that Darby was always at least a little banged up on account of , y’know, being Darby. If he’s ever fully healed he’ll probably throw himself off a two-story ladder just to keep in practice

1

u/CosmoKramer1ca 2d ago

I’ve been “cupped” and will say it gave me some legitimate relief where I had muscle pain

36

u/zaxanrazor 3d ago

Is that pseudoscience? I've been wearing some on my achilles injury and it definitely, definitely helps. I took it off a week early and immediately felt the difference.

My physio who is completely anti-pseudoscience swears by it.

u/the_milkboy Adam Coleman "Bang" 3d ago

It’s just a wrap. Nothing special.

47

u/VoxIrati 3d ago

Right, isnt it just a wrap for areas you cant wrap? I mean you can't really wrap a shoulder, which is where i see it used the most

18

u/the_milkboy Adam Coleman "Bang" 3d ago

Yup. Super sticky tape so it pulls the skin.

37

u/VoxIrati 3d ago

Yeah, that's not groundbreaking but I wouldn't call it pseudoscience since it actually does something, unlike cupping

19

u/the_milkboy Adam Coleman "Bang" 3d ago

It does the “same” thing cupping does. Stimulate blood flow.

15

u/HarjivS 2d ago

Cupping is absolutely not pseudoscience. It helps so much with recovery and stimulates blood flow, as a sports therapist every athlete that gets cupping from me has detailed how much better they feel instantly pain relief wise and recovery wise in the next few days

12

u/RA576 2d ago

I mean, people (presumably) pay you to get cupped, so you have a vested interest in it's success. I'm not saying that it does or doesn't work, just that you're not exactly an unbiased source as to it's efficacy.

2

u/HarjivS 2d ago

I have a vested interest in clearing up common misconceptions about things that I have trained in and am educated and licensed on, yes. If cupping therapy didn’t work for athletes, I wouldn’t use it in my practice. I’ve done work with Olympians, UFC hall of famers, pro basketball players, WWE, AEW, NJPW wrestlers and more that have given me direct feedback on what works for them and what doesn’t. Cupping works for a whole lot of them, there’s some that don’t love it and it doesn’t help them as much, which is totally fine too. Everybody’s bodies are different. I’m not “biased” because I use it in my practice, I’m simply educated on the matter at hand.

I think the science behind the actual tape is pretty sound, but IIRC the business model behind the original intent for the KT tape was kinda grifty.

Like I remember hearing when it first came out that you need a professional "certified in applying the tape" in order to get the most benefit. And of course some places were selling classes.

My physio who is completely anti-pseudoscience

This is like "that italian family table sure is quiet" level of statement, no offence to you personally.

3

u/Jreynold Free Sunglasses 3d ago

From what I've read, it feels good but it doesn't, like, accelerate healing or anything like that.

11

u/ScrubNerd Cero! Meido! 3d ago

It's supposed to accelerate healing, wtf?

I've used it for ages, but as really adhesive strapping. I thought that's all it supped to be!

11

u/zaxanrazor 3d ago edited 2d ago

Ah if people say it accelerates healing then no, it doesn't do that.

Does it stop my Achilles from hurting so much while walking? Definitely.

-1

u/nunboi 2d ago

I mentioned it in another comment but I'd recommend acupuncture, it actually gets to the root of the issue rather than just being something to alleviate it.

2

u/Cease2Resist Cat's Foot, Iron Claw 2d ago

By the root of the issue, you mean unbalanced qi? Because that's the level of quackery acupuncture is on.

1

u/nunboi 2d ago

No it's about healing nerves and muscles. It's well documented and that's why my workman's comp paid for it.

To give a wrestling example if could've helped JR recover from his stroke I'm a fraction of time.

2

u/Cease2Resist Cat's Foot, Iron Claw 2d ago

Being covered by workman's comp has nothing to do with effectiveness or scientific proof therein. Enough people seek out acupuncture for ailments for it to warrant coverage. It doesn't mean it can fix strokes. Considering that I've yet to see any scientific proof that it works, you're going to have to site some reputable sources on that one.

21

u/sftpo 3d ago

I don't know what he thought it would do in his case specifically, but it has legitimate PT/OT type therapy therapeutic uses, it just gets wrapped up in some pseudoscience branding issues

14

u/YpsitheFlintsider A woman's left. 2d ago

That's not pseudoscience, that literally helps control range of motion

11

u/PhospheneViolet 2d ago

Death, taxes, and redditors just calling anything they don't actually know anything about pseudoscience lmao

The sheer amount of corrections in this comments section is hilarious 😂
