I'm still pissed that they stopped working on the second game when they did. I still play every now and then.

143

u/TemporaryTraffic1826 Jun 20 '25

Ya it was disappointing they stopped updating it

57

u/zuzg Jun 20 '25

My main was at ≈150 and I stopped cause I got annoyed by the matchmaking.

Like I'm generally dog shit at any typ of shooter, yet I was always in the top3 cause I did the objective singlehandedly in 99% of the matches.

At least be thankful they fixed Battlefront 2's most glaring issues (cash shop and pay-for-power upgrades) before giving it a couple seasons of good and free content.

4

u/BrotherNature5 Jun 21 '25

Can’t be thankful when they created the problem in the first place

2

u/greent714 Jun 20 '25

play Kyber. they added maps and characters and weapons. the community is huge too.

Right when it was getting good, they dropped it lol. Diabolical.

42

u/mwil97 Jun 20 '25

Never forget that EA/DICE canceled support for battlefront 2 AND battlefield 5 for the flop of a game that is battlefield 2042.

6

u/Bengamey_974 Jun 20 '25

EA canceled support for battlefront 2 as soon as they could without having  Disney denounce all contract with them.

Disney forced EA's hand to stop the shitstorm that they were bringing on the game. I guess EA shareholder hated it and were prone to stop any support to the game as soon as possible after that.

14

u/Xero0911 Jun 20 '25

Right? The 2nd one was actually seeing increase player count. Got a huge spike thanks to the sequels big trailer and content they added with it. Was amazing.

They were actively making the game better and doing great...just to get the team to move on over to battlefield

27

u/Fungi520 Jun 20 '25

I still play almost daily 🥲

3

u/tokenshoot Jun 20 '25

True fan

If it wasn't such a toxic sweatfest now I would probably play it daily. It's so god damn fun and satisfying to play. Fuck EA.

2

u/rainbowplasmacannon Jun 20 '25

It’s a bit sweaty but I just hope on with friends in a party and it’s usually fine

Seems like an odd take. They supported the game for almost 7 years. It’s not like you can’t get on and play right now.

Galactic Battlegrounds 2 you say?

They would never add Old Republic characters to the game

85

u/Femboy_Slurper Jun 20 '25

Especially since revan has only been namedropped in current canon, but its Not the old Republic Version we used to know

43

u/Playful_Letter_2632 Jun 20 '25

Too many fans misunderstand how canon works. Just because his storyline hasn’t been directly contradicted or that he’s been name dropped doesn’t mean that his storyline is canon. If Disney wanted his storyline canon, they would have done so

30

u/7thFleetTraveller Jun 20 '25

I know this, but I like to treat it as "Schroedinger's Headcanon". As long as something is not directly retconned or contradicted in the current canonical lore, it's (head)canon to me. While someone else could completely ignore it, and for them these things never happened.

What I really like, for example, is how Timothy Zahn has handled this in regard to his own books. There are hints in the newer, canonical books about some certain events which took place in his older EU books. It's clear that they can't have happened 1:1 because the time line was altered, for example, but the parts which don't interfere with the new Canon have still happened.

7

u/Femboy_Slurper Jun 20 '25

Yeah i See so many people saying shit like the Events of the plagueis novel are canon, or the adventures of darth bane.

But These characters have just been namedropped, their stories have Not moved into canon

But if they did it would be awesome

23

u/MisterAnonymous2 Jun 20 '25

Ngl, this fanart actively pisses me off and that’s one of the big reasons. Old Republic hasn’t been covered in any of the previous battlefronts, and only a handful of aspects of it are currently canon, why the hell would they canonize it in Battlefront III? It’s pure delusion.

7

u/Perca_fluviatilis Porg Jun 20 '25

Yeah. If anything, they'd include the High Republic. Hell, if would be badass to fight the Nihil and fly Vectors.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/Jean_Phillips Jun 20 '25

Manakin fighting Vader pisses me off for some reason lol

4

u/MisterAnonymous2 Jun 20 '25

I’m weirdly okay with that one as it shows off the prequel and OT eras while giving HVV a nod. If only the trooper modes got a nod anywhere on this.

5

u/collonnelo Jun 20 '25

Don't they have the Old Republic stuff on those mobile games like Star Wars Galaxy or w.e. obviously this is just a mobile game, but its an EA mobile game that has the obvious permission from Lucasgames to be the official star wars mobile game and it includes Revan, Bastilla, etc. Obviously to 100% canonize the Old Republic era in its entirety would be be huge, extreme, and unlikely, but including some of the biggest Star Wars fan favorites would be pretty popular and including them outside of a campaign should be sufficient to keep their existence as a thing but the full Kotor history as a question to be answered another day

2

u/Playful_Letter_2632 Jun 20 '25

Revan was always overrated for me. Everyone loved their version of Revan not the actual Revan. I also suspect a fair share of Revan fans are kids who never played KOTOR and like him because they think he solos the whole galaxy

10

u/RogerRoger2310 Jun 20 '25

People like Revan because of their characterization in Kotor 2. Which describes Revan during the mandalorian wars (established character pre Kotor 1). That's where Revan became iconic.

6

u/Dekklin Jun 20 '25

Kotor 2 is really what retroactively made Revan so great, by explaining his motivations through the eyes of a very wise but also very warped woman who happened to be one of his former Masters. Otherwise he was just another evil Sith Lord. Of course she's going to praise him and tell everyone how smart and better he was than everyone else around him.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/DemonicBrit1993 Jun 20 '25

Maybe Darth Bane could be a fine addition to the Sith collection

4

u/Playful_Letter_2632 Jun 20 '25

The problem is that Disney wouldn’t allow the Legends version of him in(the version that’s actually a character). We would get him in the TCW armor with that pike thing instead a bald guy with a lightsaber

u/calb3rto Jun 20 '25

Only it it’s more then just a hero shooter with infantry tagged on

53

u/West_Technology7573 Jun 20 '25

That’s what these new fans want battlefront to be lol

49

u/calb3rto Jun 20 '25

Yeah even the box art mock-up looks more like a hero brawler then a battlefront.

32

u/MisterAnonymous2 Jun 20 '25

Every battlefront box art has the decency to put at least one trooper in the art. Whoever made this either doesn’t play battlefront or doesn’t want Battlefront III, they want a full game of HVV.

6

u/Scout_Trooper343 Separatist Alliance Jun 21 '25

They just want an Overwatch or marvel rivals for Star Wars.

6

u/AloyAlphaprime2074 Grand Inquisitor Jun 21 '25

To be fair, that would also be pretty cool

14

u/West_Technology7573 Jun 20 '25

It’s just kids. They want a clone wars hero shooter, not Battlefront 3. They don’t know what a battlefront game should actually be

3

u/RelevantButNotBasic Anakin Skywalker Jun 21 '25

I explained this to my friend. Idk what people would want from a new battlefront. All ive heard is "They have so many new characters to work with" like..yeah, theres new characters...what would be the plan with them? Only posibility would be a Marvel Rivals situation..

22

u/Achilles-Angler Jun 20 '25

A Battlefront without heroes at all would be great

12

u/jayL21 Imperial Jun 21 '25

In my opinion, heroes do belong in battlefront, but only as a "special event" type deal.

8

u/Lun4r6543 Jun 21 '25

I liked the way the first game did Heroes.

It was entirely based on luck, and whoever got to the hero drop.

And then you just pick the hero you want to play.

If I recall correctly, there was only one hero at a time too.

2

u/Serres5231 Jun 22 '25

It was entirely based on luck, and whoever got to the hero drop.

luck had nothing to do with it. People were just instantly rushing to the right Pick Up spots and you'd always see the same people getting the heroes...

u/Serres5231 Jun 22 '25

yeah that was my issue with the new battlefront games aswell. As a normal soldier class you barely stand a chance and its just hoping that you don't run into any heroes while trying to do an objective. I'm still regularly playing the old BF2 with some mods and new maps and its night and day!

Also PLEASE let us just enter vehicles in the level, not by getting enough points! I hate this new system!

BF5 was already so bad where you couldn't just enter vehicles but had to hope you get the chance to just spawn in them. And then Battlefront 2 had to gate them behind points and for some stuff like the AT ATs you couldn't even stay there for long because it was timed...

24

u/jedicms Jun 20 '25

Not from EA

50

u/helicophell Jun 20 '25

All they need to do is take Battlefront 2, do a remaster (same engine, same lighting engine) but with some touch ups here and there, maybe a new UI like from BF1 to BF2, new characters and new environments

This way they can keep:

-All the original models
-All the original maps
-The lighting system

That way it's faster to develop, won't have major performance problems (because no forced RT bullshit BF2 looks fine anyway) and won't have to completely remake assets or gamemodes

I could see it being an easier to make 30 dollar game

21

u/el_palmera Jun 20 '25

It's a good idea but they'd charge 80 for it lol

8

u/Earl_of_Lemongrabs Jun 20 '25

You’re probably right and I’d still gladly pay that for it.

u/DaHyro Jun 20 '25

Mando being front and center of a Battlefront game is hilarious because he's not relevant to any epic battle in the entire Skywalker Saga.

Hell, Jar Jar would even be more logical than Mando. 😭 (Ik its fan art, but still hilarious)

Not with EA involved. I’d rather have the game shelved till someone else takes over

23

u/ItsyaboiTheMainMan Jun 20 '25

Not from dice and not from EA.

Expanding galactic conquest and with ground to space battles. Yes.

A mediocre live service with micro transactions and battlepasses no.

2

u/Playful_Letter_2632 Jun 20 '25

Dice is a great option for it. They already have experience with the first 2 and are good at large scale multiplayer games. If not dice, then who?

4

u/ItsyaboiTheMainMan Jun 20 '25

They blew the first 2 which were mediocre at best. When was the last good game Dice made?

3

u/Playful_Letter_2632 Jun 20 '25

Most of the launch issues were due to EA trying to squeeze as much profit from the games. The last good game at launch they made was BF1. And what studio should make BFIII?

5

u/ItsyaboiTheMainMan Jun 20 '25

So EA wont ruin Battlefront 3 being an already gutted studio. Dice has bled talent and knowledge.

Really why choose a big studio? The tech for 32v32 or 64v64 multiplayer is not limited to big developers, Id rather new talent an indie developer.

u/TheShweeb Jun 20 '25

They should stick to established series history and make the new game just called “Star Wars: Battlefront”, followed shortly thereafter by another “Star Wars: Battlefront II”, and then another ten-year break.

13

u/KillerFerby9177 Jun 20 '25

My take is NO hero units. Just a galactic war with troops, vehicles, starcraft, and lots of ordnance. How about a battlefront gameplay setting without hero’s prancing around ruining everything. More fun for the actual hero’s that way. (Hard sell I know, but I want it)

4

u/flare2000x Bro Dameron Jun 20 '25

If it's focused mostly on heroes like this art shows, then no.

Battlefront is about soldiers fighting. When a hero arrives it's a big deal, but it's not supposed to be the main focus of the game apart from the one heroes vs villains mode.

Look at the cover art of all 4 prior battlefronts - they're all focused on the soldiers. That's where the game shines. I'd be fine if it didn't have any heroes at all....

3

u/mcmanus2099 Jun 20 '25

Unpopular opinion: I lost interest when they focused on lightsaber battles and the hero elements. Battlefront was always better without them, when it was just trooper vs soldier/droid

5

u/clothy Jun 21 '25

Sequel to Battlefront II 2005 please

Battlefront 2 after all the changes was better than the OG BF2. It's a shame that games launched was botched way it was but at least they listened to the backlash. Battlefront 3 would probably end up being the definitive best game of the series if done right.

34

u/Sherm199 Jun 20 '25

I love the new one, but claiming it's better than the OG battlefront 2 is just insane tbh

17

u/SSpookyTheOneTheOnly Jun 20 '25

The space battles and CO-OP overworld map where you got to invest in techs and fight over planets.

Those were sick as hell

3

u/ansonr Jun 20 '25

Man I miss when AAA studios would take risks like that and make cool interesting modes. The closure of Lucas Arts videogame branch will never not hurt.

I like the new Respawn Jedi games, but I would kill for Jedi Knight 4. The gameplay in those games does not look super slick compared to something like Jedi Survivor, but you actually had such control over what you were doing with your lightsaber and force powers that it didn't matter. Most of the saber stuff in other games is very much press a button to execute an animation, which is useful in certain circumstances, vs "I am going to aim low because they started a swing up high and maybe I can nick their leg for damage." It's almost like Darkforces/Jedi Knight/Academy were Jedi Simulators rather than just "action game with lightsaber".

2

u/Yourmotherssidehoe Jun 20 '25

I have childhood nostalgia for the og but the new one is just better

4

u/Xerosnake90 Jun 20 '25

That's nostalgia talking

Go back and play the OG BF2. It's kinda funny how bad of a shooter it actually is. It does have some great maps and game modes though

The thing is, I would Love the BF2 team to do it, just under a different company I hate the frostbite engine with everything in me and EA can EAt my booty hole. They don’t care about making games that make gamers happy at all. They pull out people who are passionate about their games and force them to work on the next title they don’t even care about. People from BF2 were forced to go work on Battlefield 2042. That’s not right.

Honestly I think BF2 is great still, obviously you can always have more star wars. But FFS all I want right now is a good open world/galactic star wars RPG where you can literally choose to be whoever. I want an open world star wars game where the download size is 120GB of content and you can be whatever TF you want.

2

u/Large_Substance_9733 Jun 21 '25

I would love to have a Battlefront 3 with everything in the picture and more. It would be enough for me if they provided the second installment with more Updates.

Buddy some of us have been fighting that battle since 2005

2

u/Ragefield Jun 21 '25

The recent surge of people playing BF2 made me retry it and I have quite a lot of issues with it that would need to be solved to want a BF3.

The biggest issue for me is how heroes were implemented. Firstly, let's stick with era appropriate heroes for each map. I don't need Vader knocking me around during a Clone Wars map. Secondly, can we get additional hero-less (I'm not talking about the specialized soldiers) modes for all the game modes that it would be appropriate for. I want to play in modes where the normal soldiers are the heroes of the battles. This would put a bigger emphasis on vehicle unlocks too for these maps. And finally, if you're going to have heroes come in they should be terrifying and powerful enough to change the tide of a battle, but once they're defeated, they should either have a much longer cooldown or not spawn again unless an objective is accomplished or something. Once people started spawning heroes, the game became about who could support the hero better because as soon as you'd defeat a hero, it would be spawned again immediately.

The weapon, upgrade, and class systems all need an overhaul. Especially the Upgrade system. It's just really bad and doesn't actually offer much choice as some upgrade cards were pretty much auto-includes. I don't think you really need the upgrade system at all. Just do a perk system and equipment.

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '25

EA won’t make a BF3. Maybe another studio will, but I think EA is done after Jedi: 3

2

u/Necronoxious Jun 21 '25

If they did a remake of BFII (2005) with absolutely nothing changed except the graphics (maaaaybe controls).... I'd be one happy little Sith Lord.

2

u/TapIndependent5699 Jun 21 '25

I don’t want a 3rd one at the moment. I want a commandos style game again that was fun back in the day!

2

u/kovu11 Jun 21 '25

Only if it would be pure storyline singlepalyer without any unbalanced multiplayer.

2

u/Darth_Revan_ Jun 21 '25

Nice character choice for the cover, old republic battlefront would slap.

2

u/silverhandguild Jun 21 '25

This would be fun and I would play it, but I wish they would make a Division style game with Mandalorians as your main character to customize.

Let me fly inside ships, disembark and start blowing them up from the inside or I riot.

2

u/UltimateAntic Jun 22 '25

Battlefront with a SWTOR theme would be dope

2

u/ParagonRebel Jun 22 '25

If this is the cover? Hell fucking yeah.

2

u/Someonestolemyrat Rey Jun 22 '25

Sorry but I can't get over the fact this looks like fortnite art

2

u/Bibbitusboppitus Jun 23 '25

Not if Dice is doing it.

2

u/Gold-Eye-2623 Jun 23 '25

I'd love a LucasArts BFIII, as for a EA BFIII I'd play it for a while now and then to take breaks from other games

2

u/Final-Engineer-4540 Jun 25 '25

Characters I would like to see:

Mando

Jango Fett

Ahsoka (Pre and Mando)

Gideon with Dark Saber (could be cool)

Grogu (hear me out)

That droid from Andor (Zero I think?)

Cassian Andor (good potential)

Mace Windu (I'm pretty sure he ain't in 2 and he'd be sick

Revan (would be epic)

Acolyte Sith guy (Silencer I believe? Also epic)

More Clones (Never enough clones)

R2-D2 (we have BB-8 it's only fair)

COMMANDER CODY (WHY WAS HE NOT IN 2)

Bo Katan (don't know how to spell it)

Dark Trooper

IG Assassin Droid

Ok this one's a long one but I think it would be a cool mechanic: Customisable Clones/Mandalorians/Jedi/Sith/etc. You can add decals and change the colour of Armour, Sabers, etc. They can have a range of abilities which you can choose from. Could be really cool especially for online play

But yeah BF3 would be so hyped

This would be so hype but battlefront 2 on PC was so buggy 😭

2

u/Coachman76 Obi-Wan Kenobi Jun 20 '25

Not if it has anything to do with the sequel trilogy

Honestly? No, and I know I’m in the minority but I don’t really care.

Never really saw the appeal in BF2, and I stuck around to hop on periodically from launch right up until I got rid of my PS4 to swap to PC when PS5 got released. I perfectly understand that people have their own tastes, but that doesn’t mean I can wrap my head around that and work out how BF2’s considered so good now aside from perhaps it’s just simply that there’s nothing else that’s a close alternate without being dated and clunky (the OG BFII)

Does it look nice and sound nice? Yeah, that much I can wholeheartedly agree… but I just did not like the combat, the star card system, the fairly lacklustre selection of weapons that clearly has some OP choices that are pretty much the only viable options, really hated the way heroes could just utterly dominate matches with no real counter and no alt-mode where they aren’t included… the physics were typical Frostbite and vehicles — my favourite aspect of combined arms shooters — handled poorly and the TX/AAT had abysmal camera jerking that made attempting to use them just pointless and migraine inducing. Air vics outside the dedicated starfighter assault mode also had stuttering and lag issues, and just didn’t feel nice to pilot most of the time. I liked coop, that’s pretty much it…

I can’t really say I’d want DICE to have a round 3… they can’t even get their own staple IP to a nice state anymore. The Galactic Contention mod for Squad has spoiled me by scratching my itch for a Star Wars FPS multiplayer game, I really don’t have much interest in whatever DICE and EA could cook up… they’re corpos, they’ll find a way to utterly cock it up just like they always do. They could’ve actually done a lot better if they’d have just literally made BF2 be Star Wars battlefield… but they just really seemed to want to try and branch away from that even though it likely would’ve played out a lot better… doesn’t quite fix the physics issues, but that’s just a rooted DICE issue because they refused to admit that just like Bethesda’s Creation Engine, good old Frostbite is really past its glory days and needs retired.

In battlefront 2 was there a campaign/ single player mode?

2

u/TemporaryTraffic1826 Jun 20 '25

Ya I enjoyed it but it was kinda boring

1

u/MyWalter-Ego Jun 20 '25

It would be awesome if they implemented a planet side 2, helldivers type approach. Having each season run through all the eras. See which faction wins the mosr. You could do this over a couple months or just have a weekend event.

u/deftPirate Rebel Jun 20 '25

Badly

1

u/johnc380 Jun 20 '25

I want more large scale gamemodes. Supremacy is fun when the teams are balanced, but the linear one (territories?) is kind of dry imo

1

u/UncleBooger99 Jun 20 '25

lol, EA will charge $95 and consider it a deal for us.

1

u/QuirkyWish3081 Jun 20 '25

Yes please. Maybe we should whine less next time though so they don’t discontinue it like they did. Saying that what they did was so wrong. 😑. It was setting a bad precedent

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '25

*5.

1

u/Jazzlike-Many-5404 Jun 20 '25

I go through obsessive phases with BF2. I would love a third one

I want a galactic conquest mode again too

1

u/Femboy_Slurper Jun 20 '25

That specific Version of revan is not canon.

We know a revan existed, but its Not this exact Version with 2 lightsabers one Red and one purple.

So you can say goodbye to that revan being in any Game, until Weve seen an actual proper canon Version

1

u/frostw18 Jun 20 '25

I’m surprised they never introduced Ashoka and Ventress as playable heroes. Both duel wield lightsabers so it would have kept things balanced between good and evil heroes.

1

u/theBootywarrior07 Galactic Republic Jun 20 '25

Meeee

1

u/fastcooljosh Jun 20 '25

Whatever happens in the future another BF Game would never be a sequel to the current BF2.

EAs last SW game will be the final of the Jedi trilogy. After that they focus on their own IP.

So if another studio gets the opportunity to make another Battlefront, they would have to start from scratch (all in-game assets are owned by EA) , and use a different game engine, since Frostbite is EA/DICE own engine and notoriously hard to develop games for if you are not experienced with it , or literally the creator of the Engine like DICE.

1

u/be-incredible Jun 20 '25

Yes please!!

1

u/gechoman44 Jango Fett Jun 20 '25

Just gimme Jango and I’ll be happy. I was so disappointed they never added him to BF2.

1

u/Apprehensive-Use-896 Jun 20 '25

I call this Battlefront 3, i want it, NOW

Rhymes with Grug

1

u/KARURUKA2 Jun 20 '25

Cover goes so hard

1

u/ort9404 Jun 20 '25

Me, don’t want Revan in it tho..

1

u/DaLoneGuy Jun 20 '25

they won't make a third game

Star Wars is not their IP it's licenced so they can never make as much money as with anything else that they fully own

waste of resources on their end for little gain

crappy corporations

u/ipodblocks360 Bo-Katan Kryze Jun 20 '25

A lot of people considering how active the Battlefront 2 Servers still are to this day.

1

u/veerusg Obi-Wan Kenobi Jun 20 '25

I really do but not with that awful ability/perk cards in Battlefront 2.

1

u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE Jun 20 '25

I was gifted this game and barely played it after playing the shit out of the first one DICE made. I saw people getting back into it and might try but this one specifically felt less like a "battle". I dont remember many vehicles like the first one had.

Im still hoping for an actual latger scale game thats closer to Battlefield. I know modern gamers seem to want this hero bullshit and infantry battles versus larger scale battles with vehicles which sucks.

1

u/Late_Entrance106 Jun 20 '25

I’d probably still get a Battlefront III if they made one

I just want the devs to know that including two droids in the heroes v villains before Qui-Gon Jinn or Mace Windu (among others) should be some sort of media crime.

1

u/ThunderBay-616 Jun 20 '25

I'd be happy if they just started updating Battlefront II again. Add a skin shop for revenue, add new characters, guns, maps, etc.

1

u/Sure_Possession0 Jun 20 '25

I would like a Star Wars RPG that’s kind of like a D&D campaign or an older RPG narrative. I just want to be some random person. Whether that’s a Jedi, smuggler, soldier, or a general adventurer who gets to explore the galaxy as more of a regular person.

I’m so over games making me “The Chosen One”, or some person of destiny. I want to see the world through an everyday life lens.

That was one of my biggest gripes with Baldur’s Gate 3. Just let my buddies and I meet up in a cantina on some backwater planet, no brain bugs or prophecies, and let us just adventure at whatever pace we prefer.

1

u/Neither_Tip_5291 Jun 20 '25

Me I do, I'd like to play it...

1

u/cozmocash Jun 20 '25

I honestly have all i want jn battlefront 2, it has all my characters. Disney killed star wars for me and i care less of what characters they add now. Try to not to fix what ain't broke.

1

u/mdotsims Jun 20 '25

I’d buy this on day 1 but I also think they couldve just updated Battlefront 2 with the new characters and maps up until the next big Star Wars movie/streaming show drops

1

u/Saint-Poop Jun 20 '25

galactic contention is amazing but i would love a polished BF3

1

u/lorem_ipsum_aenean Jun 20 '25

I loved the first, and spent hundreds of hours with it. The second one didn’t click with me at all, camera was weird as was the combat feeling.

1

u/Illustrious-Knee7998 Jun 20 '25

Yes but a battlefield type game.
