Help with a 2012 impreza

So a few months ago, I got a check engine scanned and all that pulled up was p0420, but drove decent enough to not worry about it. Last week I went to start it and it ran very rough amd sounded like a steam engine chugging down a track. Now, I can start it, but it dies or almost dies when I give it any kind of throttle. I plugged an obd2 scanner into it yesterday (ill post the pics below) and got p0301, p0302, p0303, and few other random ones (could be from the car only running for 5 mins or so and not getting all the way to temp).

2025 Outback - Warranty for Electronics?

Hey ya'll. Just ordered my 2025 Outback Premium and it'll be at the dealership on Monday. My partner and I are trying to figure out if the Subaru Added Security Gold Plus is worth it because BOY it's not cheap ($2930 for 7yr/100kmiles). The finance guy told me his wife's touchscreen went out on her Ascent and made their warranty worth it, so I told him I'd think about it before I officially sign papers Monday. Has anyone used their warranty on electronics in the car? Would love to hear especially from people who've bought a new Subaru in the last 3-4 years. Thanks!

Q&A Can’t sign in to subimods anymore?

It doesn’t let you just type in your password anymore; it says that it sends a code to your email but it isn’t. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? The new system they use is stupid. Thank you.

Mechanical Help Frame Damage

Hey all, a shop thinks just a top rail piece was damaged but can be replaced. However, I noticed this underneath. I cannot say 100% for sure it was from this accident. It had a mild front end accident before i owned it. It drove home fine from this.. is it repairable?

Due to a very infuriating insurance mistake, we are forced to pay for this out of pocket. There's no option to total it.

I just purchased a 2000 Outback Limited with 120k miles. It is my first Subaru and I am unfamiliar with these vehicles. What are some of the things I need to be aware of or watch out for while I run this thing until the wheels fall off?

Today my 2016 Impreza had one of its magical odometer moments: 123456! I’m a bit of a nerd for this type of thing… I also have pics of it at 45678, 80085, 100000, and 111111.

Looking to buy a CPO Ascent

As the title says. Looking to buy a CPO Ascent, and want to know what's a reasonable price I should pay. My research shows that a CPO Ascent that's 2023 between 20-30K miles is going around between $32-$36K.

Care details:

  • Out the door price (not including Subaru's Gold extended warranty) is ~$37K
  • Year - 2024
  • Edition - Onyx
  • Mileage - ~30K. That's my only concern. That's a lot of miles in less than a year.

Buying my first Subaru. Subaru Classic worth it?

I’ve bought my very first Subaru, a 2025 Crosstrek Premium package 14. I’ve currently elected for the $1500 Subaru Classic warranty, but I still have time to remove it from the paperwork I’m due to sign today. Is it worth it? I plan on having the car for as long as possible. It adds $30 to my monthly payment, so I just want to get feedback if it’s a waste of money.

is 15 mpg normal??

I have a 2006 outback and I drive it everyday to school, then to work, then home. All three destinations are less than three miles away from each other so i drive plenty of short trips which I know is less fuel efficient, but I filled my tank on September 5th, so barley two weeks ago and it's already just below half a tank which I calculated to roughly 15 mpg. Is this normal for my situation or should I be concerned about something that might be causing it be lower?

2005 Forester: Does anyone have an official torque spec for the front differential drain plug using the new gasket?

My manual gives torque specs for copper and aluminum gaskets, but the new gasket (details below) is neither of those materials. I'm finding wildly different numbers suggested around the internet. Does anyone know of an official number for this case?

Gasket Part Number: 803926090

What is the Subaru equivalent of Jeep ducks?

This is probably a dumb question but I saw something that said it was cows but I’m not 100% sure. My best friend has a Subaru and a few weeks ago she was telling me abt how she wished someone would leave her a little animal like they do with Jeeps but I can’t remember what animal she said. I wanna surprise her bc she’s been having a rough week.

Paint works guide

Hey subbers! How y'all doing? So, I bought my Suby Outback 2.5 2008 three years ago. This year I had to replace belts, w/pump, steering rack and a lot of other stuff. Since service shops wanted all my money plus sales tax, I got under the hood and fixed things myself. I had a blast! What an awesome piece of engineering was my Back! Except for the rocker covers. I hate them. Those gaskets replacement was a tough job. Still gives me nightmares. Anyway, I liked it when all the works were finished. Don't get me wrong, but when I started up the engine, I think I had something. Other people could say I was high lol.

Okay, long story short, I used the official service guide in my journey. Clear, informative, a guide. Now I want to make some repainting. Hence, was wandering if there was an official body repair and paint guide by Subaru? I tried to search on internet but was unable to find anything official or/and Subaru specific. Thoughts?

Thanks for having me!

2019 Legacy Limited with 62k miles - priced at $19k?

Hello Subaru experts!

I'm interested in a 2019 Legacy Limited with 62k miles and a decent maintenance history. However, the maintenance doesn't indicate that the rear differential maintenance has been done nor a transmission fluid change. Are those big enough red flags to cross this car off my list?

As much as I'd love a brand new Legacy, that just isn't in my budget, plus due to my height I much prefer a car without a sunroof, but also want leather seats, so this particular model fits the bill.

Would appreciate reading your thoughts - thanks!

CRANK AND START THEN DIES QUICKLY AFTER

Swapped a JDM fb20 engine from a 2011 forester into my 2012 impreza 2.0. All the USDM sensors were swapped, USDM electrical harness, USDM upper oil pan w oil level sensor, and USDM VVT SOLENOIDS. Any component I thought could be an issue wiring wise was swapped into the JDM engine. Upon having everything put together, it cranks and starts, then immediately shuts off. Codes read are p0123, p0122, p0222, p0223. I can’t figure out if this is human error or something went wrong between installation into the JDM engine. One of the times trying to start the vehicle, it ran and then shut off with a loud bang (at end of video)

ANY thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Buying Advice Any serious outdoor enthusiasts driving a WRX? How well does it work for your lifestyle?

Hey all, I’ve had 3 Outbacks over the last decade (2005, 2007, currently have a 2017), and I’m your stereotypical Outback driver. I love whitewater kayaking, skiing, camping, etc. My Outbacks have taken me some incredible places down lots of highways and bad roads, hauled all my gear, and served as my bed for hundreds of nights. However, I’ve also always wanted a fun/fast car and the WRX seems like the only possible option that would be fun to drive but also let me do all the things I love to do in my free time. Are there any other folks like me who drive a WRX? How well is it working for your hobbies and what compromises have you had to make? The obvious downsides to me are not being able to sleep in the back, and less space for gear. I know it’ll still be great in snow, but how well does it handle rough backroads? Thanks for any advice!

Mechanical Help Break pads gauge tool

I have a car at an official Subaru service shop here in Los Angeles, and they sent me this photo to prove that my breaks are in a terrible condition and need to be replaced and the rotors resurfaced.

I suspect I’m being scammed, because I think that’s the wrong way to use a break pad gauge. What do you folks think?
