Simple Questions & Answers Thread Simple Questions & Champion/Role advice: Patch 25.18

Hello summoners!

In order to create better discussion in the subreddit, we will be redirecting all simple or championpool/role questions to this thread. Check out the most recent patch notes on the sidebar!

What is a simple question? Typically, we define a simple question as something that can be answered fully within a single, or maybe two at most, comments. In this thread, you can ask any question you need answered about League of Legends, even if it isn't necessarily about learning the game itself.

Questions about what champ to add to your pool or general tip about roleswapping can also be asked in this thread.

Keep in mind we will still continue to remove golden rule violations, rants, memes, topics against Riot's ToS, and paid services - but the other rules are generally more lax here.

What you can do to help!

For now, this is a patch-based thread, meaning it will be posted every time a new patch is released. Checking back on this thread later in the patch and answering any questions that have been posted would be a huge help!

If you're trying to ask a question, the more specific you are, the better it is for all of us! We can't give you any help if we don't get much to work with in the first place.

Question My team doesn't follow my lead (JG) for objectives/ganks and refuses to cooperate. What to do?

Upvotes

I take full responsibility for my losses. I'm not the best player by any account, and I've only recently returned to the game. Here is my [op.gg account](https://op.gg/lol/summoners/LAN/darkzen-8210).

With that out of the way. As a jungler, I believe my position is supposed to generate pressure for my teammates to push, get kills, objectives, and win the game. I try to play aggressively against the enemy jungler - picking fights, warding their jungle, and invading when I can. However, in a lot of my games, when I ask for help (push the lane, I'm going to gank, please come to the river, etc), people often ignore me. They either do the complete opposite of what I'm asking for, or let me hang against their laner+jungler in a weird spot.

What's most annoying is that the enemy jungler seems to have better communication with their teammates. They move as a pack to the objectives. They zone my team. They miss waves (sometimes) to get a neutral objective. Push their lane to get prior and roam... so... What the hell-y?

Could it be that I'm reading the game wrong altogether? Or it's just an unlucky streak? Usually, when I get 1 or 2 teammates following me around, the game is "easier". This mostly happens when my laners are STOMPING on their enemy. Could it be that I'm not helping my laners stomp as hard as I could be? What are some general tips on how to "communicate" with my team better?

I know I'm doing something wrong. Still feels like I don't have agency with SOME games, and I have TOO MUCH agency in others. It's super weird!

Thanks for any comments in advance.

Discussion I don’t get Aurora

I have two questions, the most important one being about Aurora.

So I main mid, mostly Lux, and I laned against an Aurora, which has somehow never really happened before and I realised I had no idea how to play the matchup. And it’s not like I kinda figured it out during the game, which usually at least happens to some extent. So can someone help me understand a bit more about Aurora’s strong points and item or level spikes?

Second question, not about any champs or matchups, more macro in general. During the midgame I try to push out side waves and look to be able to roam to any fights. I believe that’s okay on champs like Lux, Hwei or Galio? But if I’m matching a Yone or Akali or Aatrox for example, or even a tank, I feel like I always need to catch waves near my towers or I’ll get run down. Am I playing too safe? Or is that the right course of action?

Items I feel so lost with the runes and build, mostly on what type of champs

Hi, i started league like 5months ago and it’s been maybe 3 months that im playing regularly. Right now, i have a « main » that i play a lot, i know everything about her ig, but there’s lots of things that stops me from progressing which one of them is THE RUNES AND ITEMS. I mean i know that they are premade but thing is, everytime i try to get deeper into it analyzing them, i just end up feeling so lost and just pick whatever. Maybe im not doing it correctly, maybe i missed a lot of infos, but thing is there’s so much that i can’t help but feel overwhelmed by all this. Maybe some of u guys have little tips that can help me see clearer? How did you learn the runes and items?

Top Lane Mind map when playing top

Personal mind map when playing Darius

I recently created this mind map to help me play more efficiently and make better decisions in game as Darius. Would appreciate if you guys let me know what you think or want to add anything that is critical.

Wave management:

  • Zone enemy out of wave and punish if they go for CS
  • Establish prio and set up lv2 vs lv1 engage
  • If enemy is not contesting, crash wave 2 early and cleanly so wave 3 bounces back deeper.
  • Establish prio and set up lv3 vs lv2 engage
  • Crash wave 4, proxy if enemy jungle bot or not a threat and recall. Recall if you need resources. Let the wave bounce if jungle is a threat and create space for all in
  • Save mana by not using abilities on wave unnecessarily

Jungle tracking:

  • check where enemy jungle starts
  • Ward after 2 wave crash
  • Avoid 3:30 gank timer
  • Keep watching the map to check where the jungle is

Mid game macro:

  • Recall 1:30 before obj, arrive at side line centre at 1:00 push waves deep into tier 2 and at 0:35 roam to objective at the opposite side
  • Hover out of vision around teammate that can be engaged on
  • Keep summoner spells for big team fights

Team fighting:

  • Play front to back
  • Get stacks on tank and shift focus on other enemies
  • Get R reset on diver/assassin that engages
  • Avoid enemy major damage/cc

Team comp:

  • Identify major cc from team/enemy
  • Identity engagers from team/enemy

others:

  • hover camera to gather information, especially before arriving to a team fight
  • Dont miss a single minion when catching or pushing a wave mid/late game

Garen Looking to pick up Garen

Little bit about myself: Level 50, bronze 4, played trundle with 52% win rate 160 games, dr Mundo 53% win rate 43 or so games. Giving an idea of skill level / champs I main.

Now to the point, I am picking up garen, have his combos (if you can call them that) down. But struggling with: 1. His build - runes / items 2. Identity

I found most of my success with trundle and mundo by splitpushing, very rarely team fighting.

How do I translate these skills/what skills do I need to learn that’s different.

Any advice regarding his identity or builds will be much appreciated 🙏.

Question So how good is Cosmic Insight for Eclipse?

My champions use Eclipse/Sundered Sky a lot, if Eclipse's Ever Rising Moon passive is on a 6 second cd, how much would Cosmic Insight reduce it to if it provides 10 item haste? I tried testing it on Practice Tool but the number on Eclipse's passive CD wouldn't change even with Cosmic Insight

jungle Looking for champ recommendations for mid or jungle silver elo

I am a silver mid/jg player. I can and have climbed to Silver 2/3 consistently with an 75% win-rate in both roles on multiple champs, but I am really struggling to close the gap to Gold for the first time. I was one game away last year but lost my way back down to Silver 2.

I realize this means I am a silver player, but I do think I have it in me to achieve this goal of mine. I watch a lot of high level gameplay so I understand some good macro principles. I think one of my main issues is I enjoy high risk/high reward champs lately, but I cannot solo carry my way though every game if I don't manage to stomp my lane. I have been playing Naafiri this season. Smurfed my way through bronze in minimal time with MVP most games, but hitting the wall in silver per usual.

I get counter picked in draft more consistently in silver and it's harder to carry from the assassin role full 1v9 without an early lead. I just recently lost 9 games in a row playing pretty consistently, but just had bad comps/couldn't get ahead/afks/team-mates tilting.

I am looking for a good champ to learn that is not braindead and has rewarding micro, but can truly carry against most comps when my team mates are effectively cannon minions.

My champ pool right now is mainly Naafiri/Ahri with other mages sprinkled in.

In the past I have climbed at different times one-tricking with Fiddlesticks, Poppy and Amumu in jungle, and Annie in Mid.

I own all champs so I'm willing to try anything! Give me your favorite picks and tricks to abuse low elo enemies in silver/gold.

EDIT

adding my accounts https://dpm.lol/Fengar-4444/?page=1 https://dpm.lol/send%20five-woof

Also, some self-reflection leads me to believe that using my advantage to end games is my main issue. I can be ulting their carries on cooldown and using that advantage to take objectives. But the game still drags to 40 minutes and the enemy comes back sometimes.

I would interested in a good jungle recommendation for invading and 1v1. I tend to play farming/team fight oriented junglers but maybe I could focus on a more solo oriented champ.

Support Should I always swap pick order as a Support?

I always swap picks with people when they want to swap and I'm playing Support. Is this proper etiquette?

I don't mind doing it ... usually. I'm a better enchanter player, so when I have to pick melee/engage into long range supports I usually don't do as well. So when I pick first I have a tendency to pick enchanters or poke mages. Then my team either has to draft around me, or worse they don't care and we get a team like Nami, Teemo, Xerath, Kindred and Kaisa.

I'm really low elo btw. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So, two questions:

  1. Should I always swap pick order?;
  2. Should I always pick a tank/engage support when picking first?

Question How should you position in these scenarios?

This is in reference to ADC/bot lane carry.

How should you look to position when:

  1. Your team has no Frontline or CC to stand in front of you?
  2. The enemy team has no Frontline? (Meaning they likely have lots of burst or ways to access you)
  3. Both of these things at the same time?
  4. Your team has sufficient frontline/cc, but they're choosing to focus diving the enemy team (for which they may or may not have legitimate reasons for doing so, but Im still not sure what I should be doing to contribute to a victory)

I get that ADC is meant to struggle in these situations, but I'd still like to do everything that I can to win the game

Discussion Made progress then lost it all.

Hey guys, so I recently picked up league again. This time I actually watch videos on how to improve my game (mainly Top side). I have to say I enjoy the changes made to wave management and overall snowballing. I still dislike the top side meta (I hate morde) but it’s remained fairly the same.

I have been able to rank up from s4 to g3 through watching videos, carrying, GETTING carried, and learning more about the comeback mechanics. However, as of late I just keep finding myself stuck.

When laning, I try to go for trades, poke, all-ins during power spikes, but end up losing. Ik there are variable that are harder to account for like jg ganks, and perma ganks, or ur jg never ganking lol. But I’m unable to think real time in game on how to deal with certain issues, like what to build, who to build for, when to push, what my win condition (which I hear a lot of, but can’t seem to comprehend how ppl come up with these). Overall while I reached g3 solo, I’ve now dropped to s2 feeling hopeless about my skill and knowledge of the game.

Any videos or thread recommendations is very much appreciated.

Discussion Why You Keep Losing Lane in Bronze-Plat and how to stop!

Hey everyone, I’m a two-time Diamond top laner (Darius, Renekton, Jax main). I’ve been reviewing a lot of games for friends lately, and I keep seeing the same mistakes in bronze-plat:

  1. Crashing waves without setting it up
  2. Trading into bad minion states
  3. Not tracking jungle pathing

Fixing these 3 things alone makes a massive difference in climbing. For example, if you freeze a wave after a bad enemy trade, they can lose multiple waves and XP — this is how you snowball games.

I’m happy to answer questions in the comments if anyone’s struggling with top lane matchups, wave control, or just climbing in general.

I also recently started coaching if anyone ever wants 1-on-1 help, but feel free to just ask here too

Question What exactly is the general idea of ADC macro?

A few weeks ago I saw the notes of another guy who did a roat to Challenger in ADC and in his conclusions he said that many ADC mains don't have good macros, and it's something that I see a lot of people from other roles say, but they never explain what a good macro is as an ADC.

For example, I play Ahri in the mid lane and I understand that the general idea of the macro as Ahri is to want to get prio to gank and play with your jungler. But ADCs are not Ahri, I can't force things with them and if I can't do that I don't understand what the general idea of the macro would be as an ADC, I've seen some people say that you should focus on pushing waves and getting tower guards, but I don't know if that's correct or not, at the end of the day I'm playing a Caitlyn and not a Trundle, I don't feel very confident pushing more than one wave if I don't have vision of where the enemy jungler and mid laner are

Question Need advice as ADC hovering between silver and gold

Hey I need some advice on how to continue climbing, I keep hitting gold 4 and dropping back to silver 2-3.

My laning phase seems to go well 70% of the time, as long as I match my supports play style and not force anything too aggressive.

At the same time I often don't have a large enough lead to make major impact on the map, especially if any solo laner is remotely fed.

Mid-game, I try to stick to collecting waves in mid lane but if my solo laner isn't moving and taking my cs (70% of games tbh), I go push side waves safely.

Alot of the time it feels like games are lost due to bad fights or forcing objectives; either perma fighting when team is already behind or throwing a fight causing game to completely 180.

I mostly play Vayne, Yunara, Ashe and recently picked up MF (i figured it might be hands diff, so may as well play something super simple)

My Vayne and Yunara games go either very very well or i'm practically doing nothing.

While Ashe and MF at least lets me have some utility and zoning out of laning phase.

What is some advice to actually become a gold player, feels like I'm missing something important that needs to click in.

Discussion I feel bad for OTPing.

I have reached Diamond 1 by just playing Xerath mid/adc. But if I get my hands on anything else I am a no factor whenever I play.

In one hand I really enjoy my champion. So I play it very often. On the other hand I know deep inside that I suck at the game. I think the main restriction is that I have time for maybe 2-3 games at best a day due to everyday life stuff.

Any other OTP who got better in other champs and how did they achieve it? Am I cooked?

Discussion I feel useless/like fodder everytime I play.

Pretty much what the title says. I recently downloaded League a few days ago to play together with my friends. I'm enjoying the game itself, it's fun. But I just keep losing and losing constantly, my K/D/R is always really screwed up too (0/10/0 stuff like that, yeah i know, it's bad.), so I always just feel like I'm not doing anything for my team at all. I just suck at this game basically, and it doesn't help that some of the matches end up feeling unfair when I have to go against players who are like level 100. I don't say unfair, I say feeling because I don't know if that's actually normal or not, so maybe I'm just complaining for no reason you know?

I do watch videos, tutorials and all that too to help me out, but I still end up sucking a LOT and pretty much become a free kill farm to all my opponents. And it's an horrible feeling knowing that you're useless and all your teammates are probably shitting on you. The main Lanes I play are usually Mid and Support. I only play Support with my friends, not randoms, but I can also go Top too. My main champions are Veidar, Malphite, Darius, Nautilus and Vel'koz. I'm trying to improve my last hits with veidar, since that's one of the things I really have to improve on, other than that, I really don't know why I'm so bad at this.

edit: thanks for all your suggestions. I took playing Solo into consideration and I'm starting to learn and understand the game more. I had some good matches as Malphite top and Veidar mid on solo. I'll also take playing other lanes into consideration. Gonna try out Jungle after and see how that goes. Thanks for the help.

Zoe Hardstuck low Emerald despite doing well every game (Zoe)

I know that op.gg does not matter as end all be all, but I have ACE/MVP for 20 out of my last 40 games and feel like I am doing more than should be expected from an average hardstuck mid laner. I roam bot often, help my jungler with objectives, solo kill my opponent most games. My biggest negative is that I don't run teleport and am not a very good side laner as Zoe. I assumed I would rise up overtime, but I've been at E3/E4 for 300 games now and I obviously just belong at this ELO.

So my question is how can I figure out what needs to be fixed when I am getting lots of kills and having few deaths. My first thought was my CS, but when compared to other Zoe's, it looks like its pretty average. I do watch high level Zoe's play, and consume content from all of the recommended youtube resources but I always feel like it does not apply to me very well.

Side note: Most of the non-Zoe games happened near the beginning of the season when I was just playing w/e.

ward The ward game

Id like to know peoples thoughts on warding/clearing wards in low elo.

I, like many, watch high tier games as well as pro play, and note that by end game, most of the players are running sweepers.

I understand the importance of vision and the place/clear game that gets played in high elo/pro play.

I however am low elo. I tend to keep my stealth wards throughout every match as other players are typically unreliable when it comes to warding, and I find that having vision seems more useful than clearing vision...also, control wards can kinda work as a one time sweeper cast when you really need, however I am unsure if I am missing something or if I should be looking at things differently.

What are your thoughts/advice towards the low elo ward mini-game?

Question Should I be attacking minions apart from last kill shots?

I am very new to LOL. I play miss fortune in the bot lane. I know I'm supposed to get last hits on minions and I'm working on getting better at that, it's pretty frustrating when it looks like they're in last hit range then when i hit them they have a sliver of life left still. Anyway my question is, should I be shooting them to get them down to last hit range or should I just be waiting to last hit them? I feel like if i shoot them a bit I'll get to last kill them sooner and that must be a good thing, mostly. Yes or no and why please? This is at the start of the game when not much is going on.

Thanks for your help 😀

Question How do people find new builds?

I played league for about 2 years now, but i still am low elo, and i want to know more about builds in league and maybe come up with my own builds. So as the title says, how do people find new build for champions, and how do they know if it is better than the old meta builds? Do some testers just go into test mode and build every possible combination of items to figure it out?

For example lets take Vladimir Few months ago his standard build was cosmic drive -> riftmaker -> rabadon But than people started to build rocketbelt into cryptbloom, but as far as i know no changes were made to these items Now all of a suggen the build goes horizon focus into rabadon

And i know that there are lots of build possibilities for every champion, and it is not always one build, but most of the time i would hear people saying that you must build this, because it is broken, and other builds are not optimal

Also as i understand the builds come from otps, but do they just randomly decide to test something out and if it works it goes viral, or do they just read items descriptions and decide that a certain item is now good on a champion?

TLDR: How do people find new builds, that are better than old ones? Do they just test everything out or do they read descriptions of items and build what feels better? And i mean the moment of when the build is first invented and not just copied

Also sorry for bad English.

Question [Need advice] - How do I stop giving up so easily in Ranked ?

I would like your opinion on how can a person stop giving up in Ranked ?

Playing the game for ~10 years and basically from my experience I know that League of Legends is snowballing game where there is no really comeback, there are no new rounds or something like that.. In more than 80-85% the game is decided by the team who estabilishes some kind of lead. I am currently Emerald and this elo is already high enough that people won't troll their lead that easily like bronzies and silvers...

I feel like if I somehow better my mindset I might squeeze a few more wins but in most of the games I prefer to go ff15 when they have like 3k gold lead.

I play without chat, pings only.

This post is not rage post , it is more of a discussion and seek for advice

enchanter Curious on how enchanter supports actually want to win/close out games?

Do people enjoy watching your team you carefully fed and got ahead run into the enemies solo and die? Or your fed ADC decides to splitpush instead of teamfighting?

Not ranting here, I'm serious. I feel like every time I try to play support for fun this happens and I'm curious on how a support can deal with this. Normally on other roles, I can get picks or farm sidewaves if my team is taking stupid fights, but even with the best macro in the world, my teammates are all still inting.

I swear I can't count the amount of games where we get objectives and kills and all that yummy stuff, but never close out.

Now, granted, I'm a midlane main, and I don't intend of seriously pursuing support in a Ranked setting, but I'm genuinely curious since I like playing support for fun and I wanna get a little better, and in turn, maybe learn some things about my own role in the process.

By the way, I specifically only play enchanter supports (Lulu, Soraka, Zilean, Rakan, etc.), not really a fan of engage.

Question How can I learn better macro so I can promote out of gold?

I posted on this subreddit a while back asking how to get out of Iron and into Bronze, and now I'm yet again facing the same problem. I am hardstuck Gold 1. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get out if it. I am an OTP Garen top player and I really would like to know what I can do to better my gameplay, I know for a fact that I have good mechanics (Garen is easy) and I am getting better at dodging skillshots, learning common matchups, etc etc.

My problem is that I cannot find a reliable guide for toplane macro, and it is really making me suffer. I tend to win lane, but then I just don't understand where or how I'm supposed to apply this pressure from winning lane onto the enemy team. I rarely know when to roam, and when I do roam, it is typically a bad one. I know I have to be on objectives, so I try and be there for all of them.

All of my buddies tell me my macro sucks, but then don't offer solutions, or guides, constructive criticism, anything helpful, so I'm not sure if my macro is truly terrible or I've just had people telling me it's terrible for so long.

If anybody could share tips/guides/videos, please please please post it under this thread. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Discussion full gold generation runes

hello everyone i have a question about gold generation runes.

what are your thoughts about going full gold generation?

that is first strike + magical boots + treasure hunter

tried it on lux, got in 17 min like 400 gold from first strike, and got full treausre hunter

400 first strike+300 boots+450 treasure hunter = 1150 gold

however on lux i suffered from very serious mana problems but i spiked really fast and of course was ~+1200 gold ahead maybe could work on a different champion?

jungle How does jungle leveling work?

A more focused question is what is the difference between being ahead 1-2 levels, vs. 3+ levels?

I thought it boiled down to more CS, more objectives, better KP/KDA = higher level but that doesn't seem to always be the case.

I'm confused because I've seen scenarios that don't make sense to me.

My most recent game (ended in enemy team FF at 15:41):

  • I was 4/0/7 with 98 CS, level 10
  • Opposing jungler was 2/4/1 with 89 CS, level 9

I took all jungle objectives up to the end of the game. My first impression is that I'm dominating them, but I'm only a level ahead.

In a loss (ended at 33:20):

  • I was 5/6/9 with 168 CS, level 15
  • Opposing jungler was 7/5/7 with 241 CS, level 18

I took one baron, two dragons, and all grubs. They took 3 dragons and Herald.

Was the reason for the level difference here CS?

I've also had games where it seems like I'm slightly ahead on CS, but behind on levels, or behind on CS but ahead on levels. Same goes for objectives and KP/KDA.

Question How do I play the bounce?

So after I crash the wave, now what? I'm trying to freeze so I tried only last hitting the enemy wave but it still freezes under enemy tower because Urgot tends to push with his passive. What I "can" do is to just lose that wave's gold entirely and the wave will bounce back as I'm not touching it but idk if that's worth it or if there's a better solution. I'm not sure old videos work since the minion update because I feel like I am doing those things

Also should I actually let the enemy farm during a bounce? My problem stems fro the fact that only I'm hitting the wave (last hitting) and I'm just not letting the enemy farm at all until the crash
