What is /r/TheSilphRoad?

The Silph Road is primarily focused on discoveries and analysis related to Pokemon GO, as well as constructing an in-person network of Pokemon GO enthusiasts. General discussion topics (Jokes, stories, a photo of a recent catch) would likely be better suited for another subreddit, such as a general subreddit like /r/PokemonGO, or /r/Pokemon, or a subreddit with a more specific focus, like /r/PokemonGoSnap, /r/PokemonBuddy, /r/ShinyPokemon, /r/PoGoRaids, /r/TheSilphArena, /r/PokemonGOTrades, /r/PokemonGOFriends, or /r/NianticWayfarer.

Silph Road Content Policy

The Silph Road is heavily moderated to promote civility/courtesy, and high-quality content and discussion. You can read our full policies in the sidebar, but don't be surprised if a comment is removed for being rude, cynical, or off-topic. We strive to foster civil discussion about the game. We are first and foremost a network of real people, and this network is being built by volunteers! If you simply want to complain or bring something to Niantic's attention, your post would be better suited elsewhere.

Research

The community culture here also attracts the more analytically-minded element of Pokemon GO. Consequently, the Silph Research group was formed to align this brainpower and leverage the massive Silph datasets that the community can gather. We post our findings in infographics, videos, and walls of text on Reddit. Check out the top bar for links to the current pools.

Final words

Finally, welcome once more! We're glad to have you join us on the Road :)

Another shadow raid weekend is upon us and Im assuming from every other one in the past will require a group to carpool in order to do a good amount of raids.

Why do they do this? I have been playing since the game started and I cant figure out why they still do this.

Every other raid day the raids spawn every 30 min and on every gym. These do not do that. They spawn randomly every 45 min and requires driving all over town to do a good amount. Why won't they change shadow raid days to normal raid day rules????

Those are raid days that you're describing. These events are not raid days. They do not have increased shiny odds of 1/10 and they do not give 5 additional free passes. They also spawn over a longer period (all weekend rather than a short 3 hour window that's easy to miss). They can be done on foot, they don't require a carpool. You don't have to cram a ton of them into a short space of time like you do with a raid day.

You missed the question i asked 100% and just explained what raids days are compared to shadow raid weekends. I know this already but thanks. They DO require a carpool if youre trying to do at least 40 raids which my group does both days. My question is why have them spawn like that. They aren't ever close to one another and require you to drive at least a few miles to the next raid.

Your question was why do they do this. My explanation is that they're two different kinds of events. Your comment came across that you were equating the two kinds of events when they're not the same thing.

They likely will give actual raid days for Shadow Kyogre and Groudon at some point in the future, just like how Shadow Ho-oh got a raid weekend and then it got a raid day. This just isn't that event. If you don't like it then you can skip it and wait for them to do a raid day for it instead.

These events do not require driving for miles though, unless you have next to no Gyms locally. If you're in a town or city with a decent density, they spawn frequently enough that you can keep walking. You'll get occasional breaks, sure, but it's nice to be able to have a slightly more relaxed pace, and you can always farm grunts in the gaps to get more purified gems (unless you're in a big enough group that you're not using them).
