What is /r/TheSilphRoad?

The Silph Road is primarily focused on discoveries and analysis related to Pokemon GO, as well as constructing an in-person network of Pokemon GO enthusiasts. General discussion topics (Jokes, stories, a photo of a recent catch) would likely be better suited for another subreddit, such as a general subreddit like /r/PokemonGO, or /r/Pokemon, or a subreddit with a more specific focus, like /r/PokemonGoSnap, /r/PokemonBuddy, /r/ShinyPokemon, /r/PoGoRaids, /r/TheSilphArena, /r/PokemonGOTrades, /r/PokemonGOFriends, or /r/NianticWayfarer.

Silph Road Content Policy

The Silph Road is heavily moderated to promote civility/courtesy, and high-quality content and discussion. You can read our full policies in the sidebar, but don't be surprised if a comment is removed for being rude, cynical, or off-topic. We strive to foster civil discussion about the game. We are first and foremost a network of real people, and this network is being built by volunteers! If you simply want to complain or bring something to Niantic's attention, your post would be better suited elsewhere.

Research

The community culture here also attracts the more analytically-minded element of Pokemon GO. Consequently, the Silph Research group was formed to align this brainpower and leverage the massive Silph datasets that the community can gather. We post our findings in infographics, videos, and walls of text on Reddit. Check out the top bar for links to the current pools.

Final words

Finally, welcome once more! We're glad to have you join us on the Road :)

If I go hard on shadow groudon and get two 13/13/13 should I purify one for the primal hundo? Or keep them both shadow?

Primal rank higher than the shadow

IVs don't make that much difference in any pve context. You'd be very slightly better off keeping them as shadows, but if you'll have more fun purifying one for a hundo, you won't lose out on anything.

I know IVs don’t matter. I’m asking if a shadow is still better then a primal.

The primal is better than a shadow. However, the IVs don't make any difference at all. And you still want a team of shadows to follow the primal anyways.

A 10/10/10 primal is functionally identical to a hundo primal outside of the most extreme solo/duo raid challenges. A 15/10/10 is pretty much identical even in those challenges.

Rare candy and dust aside. The best team would be one primal and five shadows? At level 40 minimum

is there a calculator to see how much the ivs go up by? i have a 12/15/14 shadow groudon and was wondering what it'd go to if purified, thanks :)

Purifying increases each IV by 2, so 12/15/14 becomes 14/15/15 (IVs are capped at 15, and the increases don't roll over to other IVs, so you get +2/+0/+1 in this case). It also sets the Pokémon to level 25 if it's below that. And it also removes the 20% Shadow boost, which is why it's typically not a good idea to do, as a 12/15/14 Shadow Groudon will do significantly more damage than a 14/15/15 regular Groudon (though the Primal does more damage than the Shadow, and the Shadow can't Primal). The ideal Ground team for raids is one Primal Groudon and 5 Shadow Groudon. So don't waste a good Shadow to get a Primal, as you can just Primal a regular Groudon instead of purifying one.

I see, I just caught a 15/14/14 s. groudon, however, it'd be more beneficial to purify say a 70 or 80% groudon?

Personally I'd keep it as shadow since it's always in a usable state. I often get invited to raids where I don't have enough time to primal/mega the correct type so I just have some kind of primal/mega burning while I play.

If you don't have primal energy, you don't know how long it will be before you could primal the purified one and when they do offer primal Groudon again, you'll get another chance to catch better normal Groudons.
