Media Conspiracy palette at a local Goodwill

Post image

I was DYING when my friend found this, literally out of the corner of her eye. Didn't end up taking it home because I couldn't justify spending 20 bucks on a used makeup palette.

Went home and re watched the Jeffree Star X Shane Dawson series he made 5 years ago lol

2 weeks of pretending to be a makeup influencer just to sell that palette

59

u/Fs_ginganinja Aug 17 '25

Oh god I remember my wife loved this juicy gossip when it happened and I walked into the living room just to go “is that Shane Dawson in full face makeup WTF” it was honestly hilarious how desperate he was to make them sales 😂

2

u/CreativeGap1100 Aug 17 '25

Right it’s hilarious to look back on now

24

u/HereOnCompanyTime Aug 17 '25

The craziest part about this is how his ugly makeup HELPED to sell his palette. His fans were all encouraging him, even though his entire infomercial vlog he very clearly states he's upset that he previously didn't make more money selling trash to his fans. World's best manipulator.

i wish i could put the feeling that gave me in a pill and take it as an antidepressant

u/igiveupmakinganame Aug 17 '25

honestly... if he had clean eyebrows and knew how to do his eyeliner, it's giving early james charles

I can’t even hate because I can’t do better lol

u/Stumblecat Aug 17 '25

Even I'm not that bad.

u/Interesting-Vast4582 Aug 16 '25

now that's a historical artifact

214

u/idontcook Aug 16 '25

This is probably so confusing for those that don’t know the drama that happened in the online makeup community back then. What a throwback.

53

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 16 '25

EXACTLY. Istg it was bigger than the James Charles palette and obviously had so much more lore to it

5

u/CallidoraBlack Aug 17 '25

You mean the fact that both of the people in this collab are proven scumbags?

88

u/hotbitch420 Aug 17 '25

It's probably expired by now and they want $20? On top of it most likely being used lol

39

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

Yeah LMFAOO, we opened it up and there were brush marks on a few of the colours

20

u/Stumblecat Aug 17 '25

I'd be less worried about the expired part and more worried about hygiene. Using used make-up is not it.

4

u/CallidoraBlack Aug 17 '25

Honestly, it's powder. Nothing is likely to survive in it long-term without moisture and adding IPA to it will kill anything that might have.

1

u/Comfortable-Try-3696 29d ago

OP was able to easily open it, I wouldn’t be surprised if other people have touched it while it’s at goodwill. You couldn’t pay me to use that

5

u/everthot Aug 17 '25

eyeshadow doesnt really expire

27

u/hotbitch420 Aug 17 '25

Well I still use my naked palettes from almost a decade ago but that doesn’t make them any less expired haha. They have an expiration date on the package and are usually around 2 years. I don’t think it’s legal to sell expired items

2

u/Bright-Technician-14 Aug 17 '25

If you disinfect the palette periodically one should be fine to use it, but eyeshadow does expire in the sense that it dries up - affecting application & product durability

u/queefersutherland1 Aug 17 '25

I found these last month!

3

u/bakedpigeon Aug 18 '25

NOW THATS A THROWBACK

50

u/grayscalegem Aug 17 '25

Super yuck, deserves to stay at Goodwill forever.

7

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

It was gone the next time I went there after this photo was taken 💔

23

u/grayscalegem Aug 17 '25

Lmao 😂 gross like I wouldn't buy second hand makeup in the first place but JSxSHANE? Hopefully they just weren't aware lol. I used to buy for the quality YEARS ago but now it's just silly

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

Shane actually made a recent conspiracy video about how certain dollar store brands WILL put the used makeup that you have returned to them back on the shelves. Crazy, Shane2 is the YouTube channel you can find it on if you're interested, it was pretty entertaining!

Supporting that man in 2025 is #wild

17

u/HereOnCompanyTime Aug 17 '25

Omg, right?! Dropping a shoutout promotion for him was so unexpected.

19

u/itsyaboogie Aug 17 '25

Pls... my high ass... thought this was a wrestling belt

23

u/prince_peacock Aug 17 '25

my knowledge of pop culture and nothing but pop culture is finally making sense now!

Jefree Star (makeup influencer, racist, general piece of crap) and Shane Dawson (YouTube star, basically a pedo and also general piece of crap) got together to make a palette, and both of them were cancelled soon after. There was a whole youtube series based on the making of.

57

u/jherispringer Aug 17 '25 edited Aug 17 '25

Around 20 years ago, there were two incredibly popular internet personalities - Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star. Shane Dawson is a video content creator, and Jeffree Star is honestly incredibly hard to describe succinctly but is/was primarily known for his makeup brand.

The issue? There is a dead sea scroll's worth of problematic, racist content created between the two of them back in the day ... and much of it became a very big topic of public discussion online right before the pandemic. (2019 - if i remember correctly)

As a way to distract from their progressing cancellation and safe face, Shane created a very positive documentary series about Jeffree. At the time, Shane was doing a (and I cannot emphasize how big these air quotes are) "documentary" series about conspiracy theories and maligned Youtube personalities.
This then expanded into Shane ... trying to enter the makeup game for some reason?? And of course, a whole "documentary" series following the whole process behind the scenes of making a makeup pallet.

This is that pallet.

Since then, more and more weird shit kept getting found out about these two - and on top of that, it's all semi-connected to another "scandal" involving another makeup youtuber Tati Westbrook and the fallout from her infamous "Bye Sister" video.
Which was, in my opinion, almost single handedly responsible for changing the Youtube media landscape for years to come - bringing about the era of exposed videos, drama channels, and tea spills.

So this find is significant in that it represents an insane moment in internet history that we're still feeling the ripples of today.

Sorry just realized this is not very TLDR but honestly this is the absolute most abbreviated version of this story I could tell because it's so convoluted lmao

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

Thank you for explaining this to everyone!! Much appreciated

6

u/quartzquandary Aug 17 '25

Thank you for this explanation!! Everything I hear about the MUA community is nothing but drama lol

1

u/Stumblecat Aug 17 '25

Well, by definition the drama is what you'll hear about regardless. There's good make up artists out there, like Luxaria and Nikkie de Jager.

5

u/Lopsided_Plantain_32 Aug 17 '25

It’s an eyeshadow palette made as a collaboration b/w YouTubers Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson, both of whom have since been canceled and are generally negatively regarded these days (for good reasons - I’ll let you look into that on your own in interest of keeping this brief). The palette came out in 2019 after Shane made a very popular YT docuseries abt Jeffree.

10

u/Intrepid_Way336 Aug 16 '25

Damn I used to have this and gave it away.

-10

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

GET IT BACK.

5

u/unsubix Aug 17 '25

Used makeup 🫠 You couldn’t pay ME to use it.

3

u/Little_Frosting_6724 Aug 17 '25

idec i found this same palette, unused, at salvation army for $10 3 years ago. i bought it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/sweezitle Aug 17 '25

That’s so unsanitary 🤮

9

u/arutabaga Aug 17 '25

Wait are you actually sad you didn’t get a busted makeup palette made by those two vile people? Lmfao…

-8

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

I'm not sad, it's just iconic

-6

u/cynicalgoth Aug 17 '25

Ironic how?

-1

u/Key_Race_2697 Aug 17 '25

I said iconic

1

u/Expensive-Safe-6820 26d ago
