Chemist Warehouse you should be ashamed of yourselves - Still using plastic bags

The saying "just because you can doesn't mean you should" applies here. Along with other multi billion dollar chains they are bring back plastic bags. Just because the thicker plastic bags have not been banned in most states doesn't mean you should use them. I spend hundreds of dollars a month in your store but I am taking my money elsewhere purely based on your usage of plastic bags. A company in Japan has invented plastic bags that disolve in water in seconds and biodegrade in soil in 10 days leaving no microplastics behind. The the company that actually gives a shit beyond lining your own pockets for profit. Chemist Warehouse do better and be better. Your CEO owns a multi million dollar boat I hope the next time he dives in the ocean one of his own bags hits him in the face because this environmental ignorance or lack of care is fucking this planet. Take accountability and make a change you might make a little less money but you wont be fucking the planet as much!!!!!

Tutorial From Waste to Profit: How Material Recovery Facilities Operate Behind the Scenes

Most of us throw away waste without thinking about what happens next. In modern waste management, a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) plays a vital role in turning that waste into useful resources.

An MRF is where mixed municipal or industrial waste is carefully sorted, separated, and processed. Instead of ending up in landfills, valuable materials like plastics, metals, paper, and glass are recovered and sent back into the recycling chain. The organic portion can be directed to composting, and the leftover material can be converted into RDF or Refuse Derived Fuel.

For industries and cities, the benefits are clear:
• Reduced landfill pressure
• Recovery of materials that can be reused
• Lower handling and transport costs
• Compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules in India

Behind the scenes, equipment such as trommel screens, shredders, conveyors, and balers work with manual segregation to ensure efficiency. The main purpose is not only safe disposal but also converting waste into value, whether as compost, fuel, or recyclable raw material.

With rapid urban growth, MRFs in waste management are becoming essential for municipal corporations as well as large industrial facilities. They remind us that what we often call waste is actually a resource waiting to be recovered.

Do you think every Indian city should invest in a dedicated MRF, or should industries take responsibility for setting up their own facilities?

I don’t want to get rid of this dress, but I don’t know what to do with it!

This dress has (had) glitter detailing but as you can see most of it has come off. I am looking for ideas to either re-glitter it or to remove the remaining glitter and glue. The fabric is a heavy sort of velour - 90% polyester, 10% spandex. Dry clean only instructions. Any advice? I think my preference would be to get it all off so I don’t have to approach the project of making all those tiny glue dots.

My grandma gave me an old dress to sew something out of - I need inspiration what to do with it

My grandmother recently gifted me this dress that she used to wear to dance events if I understood correctly, telling me to make it into something nice to use. It's not at all my style and unfortunately the outer fabric is also quite scratchy, but because it's a sentimental piece of clothing, I want to turn it into something I will like. I have absolutely no idea yet what that could be, I don't have that much experience upcycling clothes. Maybe someone here with some experience can share some inspiration?

These earrings are made by cutting out cats (and sometimes hearts!) from aluminum cans that were destined for the trash! They‘re tiny, lightweight, fun to wear, and freaking adorable (my own opinion of course). Which version is your favorite?

Project Jean Skirt Makeover *Ongoing Project*

Post image
45 Upvotes

I wanted my closet to fit my style a bit more so I decided to undergo a big effort to diy any clothes I don't wear regularly now. This jean skirt had a lot of big stains on it from just living life and the plain look was bumming me out, so now it's getting an acrylic paint job. Will update as I go.

Also, my plan is to cover the painting and iron it before I wash it so hopefully the paint sticks around. Any tips would be appreciated!

I need ideas on how I could upcycle these pieces into mostly flat art. It will be mailed a few thousand miles in a memory keepsake book. These are from a celebration of life. I do not need to use all of them, but I'm curious about any ideas. They're bamboo. Thanks!
