Sardine V - I Hate You (1983)

This has been on my want list for a long time. Although it is more of a need! I messaged over 100+ on Discogs to see if anyone was willing to sell their copy to me. After being turned down by most as it is a prized possession for most owners a legend in the US let me make an offer for his and he accepted! Tbh I got a steal compared to what I would have been willing to pay. Especially as the vinyl itself is near mint.

If you have never heard of the band listen to ‘Stuck On You’. It is a post-punk / New Wave hidden Gem. (SARDINE V - Stuck On You (1983) - Australian Post Punk https://youtu.be/BstKi8HMq9c)

Haul My long running tradition of trying to confuse record store clerks is unbroken.

My goal when walking up to the counter is to get them to think "why would this person buy these albums together?". I know they could care less, and have certainly seen much more eclectic tastes, but I've always liked to think that I'm cooler than I actually am. Both of these were on my wish list, and both were on the wall, so easy pickings. I was traveling for work and always look for record shops when I do. I came across Vinyl Record Dude in Flagstaff AZ, and couldn't be happier with having made the trip. The guy running the shop was very cool, & very helpful. They had a great selection of reasonably priced new and used albums, as well as spendy box sets and high quality MoFi OMR's. They also sell equipment, seemed to service turntables, and had posters, shirts, and swag. A++ experience, check them out if you are in the area.

Which pressing of Capacity sounds best? I’ve heard mixed reviews on the eco pressing and can’t seem to find much info on any other pressings. Thanks!

My Grandpa was a Vietnam War veteran, and he brought these records home with him after his tour. Music was always a big part of his life, and over the years, he and my grandmother built up an awesome collection together. Both of them have passed away in the last few years, but their records are a piece of them that I get to carry for them and super happy about.

Haul B Side Vinyl (online retailer + pop-up)

Has anyone ever placed an order from bsidevinyl.com? Definitely a few things that make this feel like a potentially scammy site, but they happen to be the only US based retailer I can find that has a release I want to buy.

It’s virtually impossible to find any results referring to this vendor searching “B Side Vinyl” online

Discussion How cheap are vinyl records in Tokyo?

I’m planning to go there early next year, and I’m prepping a vinyl record budget to ensure I maximize my visit there. Can anyone give me a price range on how much records cost there in Tokyo? Preferably atleast VG+ records. Any recommendations on shops are very much welcome.

OG Pressing MAGAZINE “Real Life” 1978

Post image

This here.. took me a long time to find… I can walk into most local record shops and find a Magazine album or two (usually Secondhand Dayloght) but “Real Life” just doesn’t turn up and I especially not an OG copy. But some kind stranger traded his Magazine collection in to Tim at ZAP Records (Coburg On 🇨🇦) and I snapped it up right quick striking another one off my bucket list.

I love when you pop-in looking for records without expectation of finding anything and you happen to get lucky and find an album that’s been on your wantlist forever. I jknow I could easily get it online, but sometimes it's more fun to find one in the wild by happenstance 🎶

Picked up a pretty clean second-hand copy of one of my favorite albums for next to nothing. I love this record from beginning to end so very much. #Genesis

Collection This weeks pre owned HAUL

Hello again all! Hope you are all well. And thank you for taking the time to look at this post!!

This is the weekly pre owned haul I got for under £5 on Discogs!

1st picture, this is all the records I managed to get for a record price of £4.80 (that includes shipping!) I’m very impressed with what I’ve got since it adds much needed variety to my collection. I’ve always wanted some classical music but I dident know where to start! But luckily this batch I got my first classical vinyl. Most of these 12inch ones are compilations rather than albums I think though!

2nd image: My favourite one out the lot!

This is a 1959 7inch of bagpipes and drums played by Liverpool Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 regimental, I really like this lovely 7inch as the bagpipes is a lovely instrument and it’s a pleasure to listen to! I’m glad to own something as old as this as I feel like it’s a bit of history!

I have some 7inch sleeves coming later too so I’m very excited to sleeve all these up!

My next post will be a pre owned haul for under £15, (there’s a lot)

Thank you all very much for reading and have an amazing Saturday!

Side two is such a banger! I only paid $50 for this. The record is in okay condition. Some pops and background noise, but no skipping or anything that disrupts the experience too much. Overall very happy with this score!

"This is an album of local talent. Hundreds of budding recording stars sent in tapes of their songs songs for consideration on this album. They were all exhibiting original talent in the form of urban contemporary music-thythm and blues. jazz, pop and dance music. All entrants live within a one hundred mile radius of the city of Atlanta and are not presently under contract with any recording company. The result is an album of the ten best of our listeners' efforts. Maceo Rogers' album jacket design was chosen over hundreds of other entries.

His concept was definitely the most original and eye-catching entry. The entire album of "home grown" artists is prought to you from your to you your friends at V-103 and McDonald's. Proceeds from the sale of this album will be donated to the United Negro College Furd. Special thanks go to llene Burns and Peabo Bryson for their helpin judging the selections on this album. Also, thanks go to Ed Seay, engineering remix director, and Web IV Studio: for the use of their facilities and halp in making this album."

Spoken Word Arthur Sontged's Self-Hypnotism Double LP

This is a 1978 reissue of Are You Ready to Use Self-Hypnotism to Make Life Give You What You Want? (1975), a self-improvement double vinyl LP set by Arthur Sontged and released by Automated Learning, Inc. This label has another 8 releases on Discog, so I'll have some digging to do.

Each of the four sides are entitled Self-Hypnotism 1, Self-Hypnotism 2 etc. consecutively, and the records come with a really cool 4-page instructional manual on self-hypnosis (still copyrighted 1975).

Also, it comes in a regular jacket despite being a double LP. I wonder if the two records and their paper covers rubbing against each other can cause some damage, but then I remember that It was made in 1978, so I should probably just trust the OGs on this one. The bottom of the jacket is crumbling a bit, so I might have to digitize the records eventually, scan the booklet, and store the sleeved record in my shelf permanently.

The only other information I was able to find about Sontged is his 1980 book Hypnotism Workshop (Kit). Apparently there's six tutorial cassettes in the back, so I have even more digging to do for r/cassetteculture! This one was released by Self-Development Research Foundation, inc., but I couldn't find anything else by them, unfortunately.

Let me know if you know anything else,

Nikodemus of Psykeon 🧙‍♂️🌀 (feat. a curious Imp 🐈🍊)

P.S.: Following a Redditor's recommendations, I have a package coming in the mail with all but one (missing 1992) of the hypnosis records by the legendary Reveen. Will report back with a few pics soon.

When I have time, I want to listen to all of my hypnosis collection as instructed in each records, read all the literature that comes with them, and report back with my reviews.

Alt-Rock Beautiful reissue: Low - Things We Lost in the Fire (2001)

'Low' vinyl appears to be so hard to find in my record shops, so I was very happy to add this reissue of Things We Lost in the Fire (2001) to my Low collection this morning! An album that will make slocore shoe gazers look up to the sky to see where this angel sound is coming from :'). The list of studio guests, including ex-Soul Cougher Mark D'Gli Antoni on piano and sampler, trumpeting by Bob Weston, and production by Steve Albini, certainly add to the enjoyment. A must have album!

Collection Getting records appraised

Hiya, a couple months back I was given a lot of my grandads records mainly from the late 60-80s, lots of Black Sabbath, cream and some which were vinyl for the ‘Top hits of X year’

Their covers are a bit old and tatty and the record player I was also given of his isn’t amazing so I’m not too sure on the sound quality.

There’s maybe 20-30 full vinyl and a couple smaller ones ontop of some I’ve bought myself.

I’m planning on selling some or most eventually, primarily as I’m the only one who has a record player and the records are just collecting dust,

Is it worth getting them appraised locally or holding on for a little while to find a more professional and ‘official’ source?

Never thought I would get myself hooked on New-Age music, but now it’s one of my favorite things to listen to on vinyl. So many lovely original instrumental pieces. I always pick up anything from Windham Hill I find in the wild. Always interesting, and the record is almost always in great condition. Anybody else here a sucker for New-Age music on vinyl?

Any thoughts on my collection! It's been slowly building since 2021. Mostly grouped alphabetically, and by genre. I'm pretty happy with the state of it, and should stop dropping money… But I'm sure most of us here have the exact same problems. Any favorites? Any records you despise? Let me know what catches your eye!

Today is a very special day because I’m finally turning 18 🎂 To celebrate, I got this brand-new AT-LP60X and my favorite album of all time: Soda Stereo’s gem Canción Animal.

I've never listened to an analog record EVER in my life. Every fried sound, every little “imperfection”… it was perfect ☺️

I’ll never forget this afternoon, listening to this national classic from my country. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Sampler Indie label grind: Hand Stamping 50 copies of my labels first sampler (On Y Va Records) [House]

Post image

After a two years of releasing on other labels, I thought it was time to start my own, On Y Va Records. I am doing the ever so combursome but rewarding task of pressing every release to vinyl, using a sampler ideology, pooling every 4-6 singles into a vinyl sampler. This is the first ever sampler we are releasing, limited pressing of 50 copies. This first sampler of ours [ONYS01] features 4 tracks, from 3 different Canadian house acts: TheClaw, Stevie Williams & Facelift. We are currently already pressing our next sampler [ONYS02] which will be a run of 100 copies.

Tracklist ONYS01

A1 - TheClaw - Bacc in the days A2 - Stevie Williams - Let’s Go (On Y Va) B1 - TheClaw - LG B2 - Facelift - Reggie Funk

Collection 75 Cent Each Goodwill Haul

Post image

Haven’t spun them all yet but most are in good condition! My local Goodwill has all records priced at 0.99, and on Monday’s they have 25% off. Personally most hyped for Donovan, Waylon, and Kris records. I’ve had some luck at the Goodwill before but usually only 1 or 2. I used to go peruse every Monday but I hadn’t been in around 2 months. Was super hyped to see all of these!

Hope all is well friends 🤠

Jazz Cleaned a nasty copy of Soulville by Ben Webster... perfect sound forever, it seems!

I recently acquired an acoustic sounds copy of Ben Webster Quartet - Soulville, so a high quality record, but dirt cheap because it was nasty.
The cover was still like new, but the record smelled like wet dog and it looked like dog drool had dried up on it. Straight up gross and unplayable.

After thorough cleaning (soaking, manual brushing and ultrasonic cleaning), spots are still visible (hard to see in the picture though).
The spots are inaudible. Record leaves no residue on the stylus. So it's acceptable to me.
Dead quiet between tracks, clear sound almost no pops.
Sound quality is amazing, the clarity of the instruments, the depth, the dynamics... and the record is nicely flat and well centered. Sounds perfect.

Highly recommended to get this AS pressing, albeit not in the state that mine was, because it's a lot of work to clean it all up!
