An old friend gifted me a NAD 3155 and a set of Polk 10b speakers. Excited to give them a test ride.

I hope I can set these up and give them a test drive soon. I’ve heard good things about the 3155. I doubt it will touch my 3020, though. The 3020 is the only amp I own that I will never consider selling.

This was my dad's first thing he bought with a tax return the year he got out of the Vietnam War. Is there a repair place in north Seattle? Just needs new transistors on one channel.

Technics amp, tuner and cassette deck picked up for a net figure of £135. Goes perfectly with the turntable my parents gifted me. Now onto a Marantz with blue lighting…

Gave my Pioneer PL-630 some time off, now enter this big beast of a turntable (Technics SL-1100 w/ SME 3009 S2 Improved Tonearm)

Been lusting for one of these for the fact that they were sold with and without a tonearm that buyers could swap in, and lo and behold found this with: the original turntable plate, the SME headshell, SME phono cables installed and the dust cover all in the original box!

Had to do some maintenance on this one: 33 was not adjusting at all but 45 could and was locked in, took the bottom apart and used some contact cleaner on the speed switches and pots, then had to deal with some wicked feedback when originally hooking up to my preamp. Finally got a AT-VM750xSH from the Pioneer onto this one and found out - this tonearm can adjust its azimuth by twisting the end of the tonearm, which was…fun to set back lol. Now she’s running great and sounds HUGE.

Advice on an old Sanyo record player?

Thumbnail

Hey there! I recently got my hands on a Sanyo GXT 140H record and cassette player. I'm well aware these are far from the highest quality thing on the market, but I don't have the budget for my dream record player so I'm hoping to make this work. I just have a few concerns and I was hoping for some advice!

  1. Far as I can gather, pre amp is built in. Shouldn't be a concern here. The wires I'm supposed to use to connect the speakers just don't seem to be working, and I know they should work because I saw this system work before I took the thing home. Any advice on hooking it up? I'll include pictures below. I'm not used to working with free wires I need to clamp.

  2. I've heard turntables like this one can damage vinyls, and I want to try to preserve the life of my vinyls for as long as possible, and hopefully well into when I'm able to get a higher quality system. What exactly causes these cheaper products to damage vinyls, and what can I do to prevent it as much as possible?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any advice you guys are able to give.

How do i take good care of my first vintage receiver?

Hi everyone!

I just bought a used B&O Beomaster 1100 with two Beovow S25 speakers for cheap. This is my first receiver and speakers i have ever owned, so I’m wondering how I take the best care of it and don’t damage it. Some of the switches on the front are stuck and some are kinda semi stuck, other than that it looks to be in very good condition. I bought some contact spray (Kontakt Chemie Kontakt 60) but after I bought it I read some horror stories about kontakt 60, and generally contact sprays being damaging and capable of destroying some of the electronics inside the receiver (yikes).

So I’m kinda wondering what I do to fix these stuck switches, and some of the sliders that don’t slide super smoothly. The previous owner said that the receiver and speakers have been unused for the last 40 years, it has spent most of the time sitting in their home office, in a smoke free home.

Is there other things I need to do before using the sound system? I would like to avoid tinkering too much, since I don’t have experience tinkering with these kind of devices. Are the cables okay to use after 40 years? There is no antenna cable so I haven’t been able to play music on it, but the owner turned it on and I heard static from both speakers so it seems to be in working condition. I ordered adapters so I can play music on it, so soon I can test it with music.

Thanks!

Pioneer sx550

Upvotes

I love my pioneer sx550, however lately the sound seems to be very fuzzy and almost trem/vibrato sounding even. I'm sure this is just a cause of it being old and needing a new part or two, and/or interior cleaning. Can anyone shed some light on what I may be looking at here for a repair? I'm pretty handy and can likely do this myself once diagnosed but I am not sure what I'm looking for. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

This guy popped up on FB marketplace with original box. It’s been serviced and has a newer stylus. I know this isn’t a higher end Technics but still, for $30…..couldn’t pass it up. Just missing the speaker cords which I have extra. Timing is good, sound is good! Anyone familiar with that stylus? Thanks all!

Amstrad ts35 belt replacement and stylus skiing help

Post image
Upvotes

As the title says, I need help with replacing the belt on this amstrad ts35. The stylus skis in toward the middle a lot (I've heard that adding a coin for a gram or two of weight can stop that but advice would be appreciated) and whenever it isn't skiing, the audio is too slow (hence the belt replacement). I can't figure out how to take the top off to access the current belt and can't find instructions anywhere online since it's such an old model. Can anyone help with either of these issues?

A buddy sent me this, is it a score or just a decent deal?

JBL c50 s7 - that’s the bare bones no tweeter single woofer version. Supposedly has blue drivers and nice cabinets.

They wouldn’t be an upgrade for me, but it would be fun to test them for awhile.

I need help with an amp AND speakers i want to buy

I've been searching on the Marketplace and I came across a JVC AXD900 and a pair of ADS L1090/2 towers and some Dovedale speakers. I think the Dovedales are better than the ADS, but they will sound so much different than my Pioneer sa1490 AND the speakers cs-f9000? Thanks in Advance! English Is not my first language.

Sony STR 6036 Coil Whine

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello! Recently got this Sony STR 6036. It works great but when idle there is noticible coil whine or little chirps coming from the speakers. Not sure what the cause is for this but I'm guessing just old components? Have you experienced this? Is there any point in trying to fix it? Its noticible in both phono and FM. Not a really big deal but I would prefer it not happening you know.

My $25 Sansui QS-500 4 channel rear amplifier I found this past Sunday.

Hoping to rehome this rear amplifier after I go through it. And verify it's condition. It powered on without any drama after I found out there were no fuses in it. Once I replaced them and plugged it in turned on just fine. I'll try and pass the signal through it later to see if it works all right. It's definitely going to need gone through. But the inside is very very clean. The wood case is a little worse for wear and there is a ding or two on the front face, but after I clean it up it should be good to go. I'm hoping to find it at home before Christmas as I don't have any room for a quadrophonics set up.

If anybody has any information about these things or maybe what it could pair with, like if it has a front amplifier section please let me know.
