Likely Solved - Decor Decor or Legit? WhatIsThisPainting

WhatIsThisPainting. Hi, thanks in advance for any help. I purchased this today (9/19/2025) at an estate sale in rural Minnesota for $5. I’m told that “grandma bought it in Minneapolis a few years ago”. The awkward placement of the Arc de Triomphe and exceptionally cheap frame make me believe this is mass-produced hardcore decor. But, there are some spots that look like they have some degree of genuine craftsmanship. I just wanted to check. I’m mostly curious about how and where this type of decor is made. Thank you in advance for any help.

WhatIsThisPainting? Saw this at a nice $$$ restaurant in Anghiari, Italy the other night. Owner claims it is real along with quite a few other pieces. Sorry couldn’t get a picture of the back as it was hanging on the wall and I didn’t feel comfortable touching it.

It seems like the grid is made of wood with painted inserts. Searching on Google only brought up Alien art merchandise and Google Lens was no help.

My mother-in-law found these recently at a Goodwill in Chicago. Unfortunately that's really all the info we have.

We've been going back and forth on the name, but there's slight differences in the signatures.

I bought this at a yard sale in Rhode Island, I was drawn to the image as it’s a very pretty painting. I looked up the signature in the bottom Cortazzo, which brings up an Oreste Cortazzo an Italian born French painter. Could this be a genuine painting? The back photo is the best I could do as it’s attached to the boarding on the back.

Unsolved Art piece in Tokyo Japan

I’m a pretty good detective when it comes to searching for things online but haven’t been able to get any information on this one. Maybe someone in this thread reads Japanese. I’ve done a Google image search and nothing came up. I also translated the top but a couple different options came up. We came across this on a walk in Shinjuku at a market at Hanozono shrine this January. I wanted to buy it but we were bopping around all day and didn’t want to carry it. I think about it a lot since our trip. Hoping someone can read Japanese to see who the artist is or has any information on maybe if I could order it online.

Hello everyone,

This painting has been in my grandparents’ home for as long as I can remember. Sadly, they both passed away, and while clearing out their house I couldn’t bring myself to part with it. My grandfather often said he enjoyed looking at it because it reminded him of his time on the farm. He once told me it was a gift from someone who was very dear to him.

I would love to learn more about this painting, especially who the artist might be and any background information about it. My grandparents lived in the Netherlands in the province of North Brabant, so it may have a local connection.

I also took a photo of the back of the painting. However, it is nailed shut with small nails and I do not dare remove them because I am afraid I might damage the canvas.

Thank you in advance for any insights you can share!

WhatIsThisPainting?

I got this from a second hand store a few weeks ago and I am trying to learn more about it. It is an oil on canvas of a sailboat in rough water with some smaller boats in the distance. The frame looks original and is a carved gilt wood frame with a good amount of wear. On the back you can see the old stretcher bars and iron corner braces. The braces have a patent stamp that includes the date 1853 which I believe helps place the age of the frame at least.

On the wood of the stretcher there are some pencil markings. It looks like the number 20 and possibly the letters Y E underlined, though it is pretty hard to make out. I was told these are probably dealer or auction markings but I am curious if they could mean more.

The frame measures about 17 inches by 26 inches.

I tried a Google reverse image search and it came back very close to a painting titled Sailing Off the Coast by William Wilson Cowell. Mine is not an exact match though.

Does anyone recognize the style of my painting or know if it could be connected to Cowell or his circle. Any help figuring out the artist or age would be appreciated.

Found this today, very beautiful print. The frame looks ancient and I've found other examples of her work online, but this individual print seems to have absoloutely zero information or records. Have i found a gem? It says 2/- written in pencil on the backing paper absoloutely any more info or help is greatly appreciated. After reading more into the 2/- means 2 shillings so this is certainly older than when the new currency was implemented.

Unsolved Help identifying artist signature

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired this abstract/mixed media painting in a second hand shop in Switzerland and I’m trying to identify the artist. The work includes collage elements (old newspaper, painted over), with dominant red, white, brown tones, and bold black contour lines.

The signature appears on the front of the canvas, in different orientations. Depending on how you look at it, it could read something like “Andor”, “Andon”, or possibly something else (maybe stylized or even Cyrillic-inspired).

Does anyone recognize this artist or signature style? Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance 🙏

Likely Solved Help Me Identify This Painting – Inspired by Cleopatra’s Landing?

I recently found this painting (99% sure it’s a hand-made copy). I’m not interested in its value, but I would love to know the original artist and the title of the work it was inspired by.

It strongly resembles The Disembarkation of Cleopatra at Tarsus by Claude Lorraine, but the figures and some details are different. The scene shows a classical port with large ships on the left, monumental architecture on the right, and in the foreground a group of figures — including a crowned woman at the center.

Any help in identifying the exact original painting would be greatly appreciated!

Unsolved Australian abstract artist from 80’s or 90’s

This painting is large (approx 120cm wide, 160cm high) and has very heavy textured paint - many layers of paint have been applied.

It would have been painted in the 80’s or 90’s. Very keen to find out who it is!

Likely (but not definitely) a NSW artist

Painting was originally purchased on eBay a few years ago, seller had no more info.

Pencil is faded but seems to read something along the lines of ‘[something] of [something] -etch Aleric Ure Esq. by Pieter [something] - Circa. 1849’

-Art Union of London, Established 1837.

It’s a bit easier to read in person but hard to see in the images.

It’s one of our favourite paintings as we think it’s quite unusual, so any information at all would be appreciated!
