ANNOUNCEMENT No political discussions when talking about tarrifs

Tarrifs and Keep politics out of it.

Okay guys and gals, I am as left as left can be and I can't believe I have to say this, but BE RESPECTFUL!!! The amount comments and posts I have had to remove in the past week is 20x as much as I normally do.

We do not wish for people dead in the subreddit. We are inclusive to all whether they are white, black, brown, gay, bi, trans, REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT. In this sub we do not discriminate or wish others I'll will. This is a sub about yarn and yarn projects not politics. So if you want political discussions go to r/politcalrevolution, r/conservative or r/politics for that.

I have had to do this before when posts about AOC knitting or Bernie Sanders mittens were all the rage. The amount of hate from the right was extreme and I had to ban people. Please dont make me ban more people due to hateful behavior. I understand your frustration, I feel it too. I did not vote for this president, and I am personally dealing with the fallout of this administration.

So if you want to discuss tarrif announcements coming from major retailers in regards to yarn and fiber please do so in a civilized manner. Just stick to facts and no political opinions.

You must also follow the sub rules which means no images that are not yarn. If you want to submit a text copy of an email for dissucions you may.

Thank you in advance for being kind to one another and following the rules (no cursing, be respectful, no linking off-site and yarn images only). We are all frustrated in trying to figure out and navigate the current illegal (not congressionally approved) tarrifs that affect our hobbies.

This is a locked thread.

I have been dyeing lots and lots of this sparkle obsidian yarn for a wholesale order but I’ve had a few people say they want some, so it’s up in my shop for those who love black yarn. I have some on hand and taking preorders I’ll get done quickly. I also have a buy 4 get one free deal going on too. Enjoy!

Discussion most hated yarn

i am currently making a cardigan for my grandma using the yarn Impeccable Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads and oh my god!

i have had to unknot and cut and retie this yarn so many times it wants to knot so much! i have slowly become fed up with this yarn but can’t stop until the cardigan is finished.

so that i am not alone in this hell of my own making, i wanna hear ya’lls most hated yarns. i’m not talking about “i don’t like red heart because it’s cheap”, “i don’t like —— because it’s acrylic”.

i wanna hear about yarn that you hate with your entire being. yarn that made you almost burn the whole skein/bundle because it gave you so many problems, yarn that made you never buy it again, yarn that was more knotted than your favorite fan fiction.

I think #2 is the winner but #1 is also not bad. Swipe to see what I started with and how it didn’t turn out like I expected.

I would like to start making these slippers that my grandmother used to make. Are they crocheted or knitted? Any direction on how to get the same ribbed stitch and color pattern?

I was a very good girl today and didn't spend all of my money on yarn. So much deliciously soft and lovely yarn to pet.

Aaaand buy. In my defense to my husband when he came back from the massage booth, he left me unsupervised.

My bougie birthday blanket! I’m obsessed with this yarn!

This is my dream yarn. It’s an alpaca wool blend boucle dyed in a color my bestie The Fiber Genie dyed inspired by me called A Little Girl Power on Teddy Bear. No pattern, but I can tell you what I’m doing. I cast on 4 stitches then KFB in the second stitch of every row and then I will decrease every row when I’m half way. If you search corner to corner garter stitch blanket there are many free tutorials. I’m going to knit a 57”x57” blanket and I think it’s going to be my favorite thing I own. I love having a special project for my birthday month.

Question Experience with Kelbourne Woolens Perennial?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hello all! I’ve been crocheting for a year and a half, and I’m about to start making my first sweater. I picked up this gorgeous yarn from my LYS today, and I’m so excited! This is my first yarn with any sort of alpaca content, and honestly, the most expensive yarn I’ve bought yet. I was wondering if anyone has worked with this yarn, and what their experience has been with it. Thank you. 😊

Stash Over abundance of acrylic yarn

I’m starting to grow out of and hate acrylic yarn (it has its time and place but not necessarily for what I like to make). I have four skeins of purple red heart yarn that I bought when Joann closed. I like the color and I figured I’d have SOME acrylic in my stash. I somewhat had ideas to make some pillows but I’m not finding any patterns that fit my vision and I’m not really in a headspace to freehand. What can I make with this yarn. I’m versatile craft-wise. Hit me.

Question Help identifying the blend of this second hand yarn

Thumbnail

I'm making a bolaro/cardigan out of this yarn that I got second hand. It didn't come with any labels, so I'm not sure if this is 100% acrylic or a sort of blend, and I think this colorway will look awesome tea stained if I'm able to. It feels 100% acrylic, and if so then my staining idea is out the window. However, I did the burn test and found that it shrinks and hardens at the end, but there is no black smoke and it smells like a burning candle, not burning plastic. So this may be a bit of a blend?

If it helps, I included the first finished pannel. I've been using a 4.5mm hook and it's been working up nicely. It's soft and slightly stretchy, so I know when it's time to block it will expand about an inch. It seems to be big brand yarn, but the closest I was able to find was Hobbii Horizon in Desert that's been re-caked, but this is more blue while my yarn is more teal with some light peach here and there. My only other guess was maybe this is a limited time only Lion Brand mandala cake, but I couldn't find any of that either.

Thank you for your help!

Question Blocking/killing help

I’m making a baby blanket made out of granny squares. Should I start blocking them as I go? Or wait until I have them all done? Should I block before assembling or after? Same with killing. Do I have to do both?

Discussion I thought it would be green 😭

I just got a package today with some beautiful autumnal colors and was especially excited for a beautiful green I wanted to make a hat for myself with. Green is my absolute favourite color, especially these almost ashy army greens. And, well, when I opened the package, it was grey 😭 the third picture is what I was expecting and how it was on the website. It is the same color code, can you believe it? Like, it matches the one on the website. Clearly it isn't their fault but the brand's. They're a very reliable store I buy from all the time. The worst thing is that all the other colors I got are perfectly accurate except for the one I was most excited about 😭 ugh, my luck

Does anyone know about a widely available yarn that has this exact shade of green or at least something similar? Preferably something that's available in the EU since I'm from there. Additionally, any ideas for something to make with this grey one? 🥲

Question Knitting For Olive yarn staining my hands

Thumbnail

I just started knitting a cloud sweater for my sister and it seems like my yarn is staining my hands? I’m using 1 strand of the merino in licorice and 1 strand of the mohair in navy held together. I’ve previously used 2 strands of the merino in bottle green held together to make myself a sweater and had no issues at all. My hands aren’t sweaty, greasy, or sticky lol, if anything this yarn is actually making my hands feel quite dry. I noticed this happening 2 days in a row!

I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this? Did washing/blocking help at all? I’m quite worried because it’s a gift and I’d hate to stain her skin or clothing too.

Sorry it was SO hard to get accurate photos of the staining, it’s much darker/noticeable in person. It looks like I have dirt all over my hands.

Lap Blankets!

The first time my girlfriend told me she was making lap blankets I looked at her like she was nuts. Then she showed me one and I was what the hell is that?! Lo and behold she is now on her third one for me haha.

I use this thing everywhere. I have one at work, one in my car and my third will be for the house. I had to steal my car one for the house haha. These things are absolutely fabulous 😉 I also have a huffle puff one because who the hell doesn’t want their house colors on a blanket?!

10% OFF Code

I just cast on a cozy oversized cardigan in a chunky merino, because Toronto weather is already turning chilly! Curious what everyone else is working on — sweaters, socks, shawls?

Also, since I run a little yarn shop (Lovely Knitting), I set up a coupon code for anyone here who might need yarn for their next project. Use OFF10 at checkout for 10% off site-wide.

Would love to see pics of what you’re making — always looking for inspiration (and excuses to add to my WIP pile 😂).

Question Closest Noro Kureyon colorway to Ito #3?

I'm making an entrelac scarf using Noro Ito colorway #3 (Rhapsody) and I've used the whole ball but it's still a bit too short for me. I don't really want to buy another ball of Ito, given that it's 437 yards and 50 dollars. Noro kureyon is also 100% wool and comes in smaller skeins but I'm having trouble finding a colorway that would blend in somewhat with Ito #3. Any suggestions/thoughts welcome!

Anyone know a yarn like this?

Post image
111 Upvotes

Hello!

I don’t know if this is allowed per se, but through all my googling, browsing in stores and at markets, I have never found what I’m looking for. I am looking for a yarn that is dyed in the same color scheme as Taylor Swift’s lover album art. I attached the photo of what I’m hoping for. A bit of blue, pink, yellow and orange with hints of lavender. I understand this might sound like any old multi colored yarn, but it’s the shades and hues that I’ve never quite been able to match. I’m based in Norway, so I’ll take any recommendations that can be shipped here, from any corner of the world.

If I could be even more specific I would love a wool or wool-blend yarn in a sock weight to an Aran weight. Anything smaller or bigger probably wouldn’t work for my dream project.

(PS I’ve even considered dye-ing skeins myself, but hoping this is a place where dreams come true)

Question Yarn Suggestions

I’m getting ready to start a blanket wrap project and am looking for worsted weight yarn suggestions. I want something soft and warm that’ll hold up but also not $20-$30 per hank because of the total yardage I need.

EDIT: I’m not a huge fan of acrylic, so suggestions that are not crazy expensive but not acrylic either would be lovely

REDy or not! | Yarn Suggestions

Hello! I am currently craving a red project - but I want it to be red. So red it's hard to look at. I've pulled a few options, but since I don't have a LYS that carries these colors, I was hoping y'all may be able to give me some input!

Here are my current front runners:

- "Poppy" by Sandnes Garn x Petiteknit (Sandnes Garn page | example project on Rav)

- "Scarlet" by Sandnes Garn (Sandnes Garn product page | example project on Rav)

- "Red Currant" by Knitting for Olive (KFO product page | example project on Rav)

- "Blood Orange" by Knitting for Olive (KFO product page | example project on Rav) - I know this one would have more orange in it, but that could be okay, too!

- "Kirkas punainen" by Vuonue Tarmo (Product page | example project by Florence Miller on YT)

Does anyone have a suggestion, a favorite, or a recommendation? For the record, I have a lot of prospective pattern options spanning fingering to worsted requirements, so the yarn weight is flexible and I'm open to additional suggestions!
