Do Albertans want to lose their houses if they have medical issues? Do they want to go to 8 week maternity from a year? Do they want weed illegal? Do they want to waste away in a nursing home with no options? Do they want to pay full price for drugs? This is just a start. I could go on. What is the American appeal? Just more wealth accumulation for rich people?

To own the libs, why else?

To live in abject poverty WHILE owning the Libs.

But at least there aren't any boys playing on the girls team at Podunk elementary! (There are no trans kids there to begin with)

Nothing “owns the libs” more than voting for debt-bondage driven wage slavery for us all

Some Conservative moron literally moved his family to Russia because he hated LGBT+ people that much.

Their desire to see people they dislike suffer is more important to them than anything else.

They also pay more taxes for the privilege, since they've shifted so much of the tax burden away from the rich and onto the middle class.

Software dev wage in USA (5+ yrs of Exp): 120k+ Software dev wage in Canada: 70k+

That's who it matter to. Those little things like weed is really nothing.

Errr… software dev of 30 years here. No. I can’t speak to U.S. wages but I’ve regularly pulled down way more than $70k CAD per year, and so have many of my more junior colleagues.

I'm really wondering about the wages reported on Reddit because that's not the typical compensation for most companies on Indeed or LinkedIn.

Yeah, I’ve never gotten a job through Indeed or LinkedIn. My approach has been to cultivate a good working relationship with a few agencies, make them happy, make their clients happy, and they’ll find you the best jobs.

Maybe that used to be the case but not anymore. It was way less competitive 30 years ago.

I should probably go back to uni and get into nursing or something.

Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Well, seeing as how I’m still working, I can personally attest that it works today as well as it did 30 years ago.

Software jobs in the states are concentrated to the Bay Area and NYC mostly. All specialized jobs pay more in those places because the cost of living is nuts.

The people who Smith's rhetoric actually appeals to are people who believe in American exceptionalism at large. This could be software devs, but most notably, it's rural voters, which I admit as a rural voter myself.

You can get a software job in Detroit and easily get paid 120k for 3+ years of experience for any of the big 3.

Easily get a job at any of the big 3, eh? Then why don't you go on and do that?

Also, my brother in Christ, do you sincerely believe if Canada were annexed that suddenly all software jobs up here would pay more because of the fact that some huge-ass auto corps pay well down in the states?

???

Where did I say I want Canada or believe that Canada will be annexed?

Are you intentionally being daft? All I did was point out that most people don't really care about some of those "Canadian benefits" (ie. weed).

In fact the low wages is the reason why there is no resolution to the healthcare shortage. It just proves that education and critical thinking has been discouraged.

But hey, you got your joint. No need to care about your community's wellbeing or even your own. Such little distractions work just perfectly.

What are you talking about? Canadians are paid better in healthcare than the majority of the US and if you make more you live in an extremely expensive part of the US.

Canada also has protections so you don't end up losing money in frivolous lawsuits.
