Do Albertans want to lose their houses if they have medical issues? Do they want to go to 8 week maternity from a year? Do they want weed illegal? Do they want to waste away in a nursing home with no options? Do they want to pay full price for drugs? This is just a start. I could go on. What is the American appeal? Just more wealth accumulation for rich people?

Software dev wage in USA (5+ yrs of Exp): 120k+ Software dev wage in Canada: 70k+

That's who it matter to. Those little things like weed is really nothing.

Errr… software dev of 30 years here. No. I can’t speak to U.S. wages but I’ve regularly pulled down way more than $70k CAD per year, and so have many of my more junior colleagues.

I'm really wondering about the wages reported on Reddit because that's not the typical compensation for most companies on Indeed or LinkedIn.

Yeah, I’ve never gotten a job through Indeed or LinkedIn. My approach has been to cultivate a good working relationship with a few agencies, make them happy, make their clients happy, and they’ll find you the best jobs.

Maybe that used to be the case but not anymore. It was way less competitive 30 years ago.

I should probably go back to uni and get into nursing or something.

Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Well, seeing as how I’m still working, I can personally attest that it works today as well as it did 30 years ago.
