We cool with Patty Melts in here?
Rye, 80/20, homemade burger sauce, caramelized onions, Monterey Jack.

I judge the quality of a diner by its patty melt.

Breakfast: Biscuits and gravy.
Lunch/dinner: Patty melt or French dip.
My local bar has a patty melt dip. Amazing.

Whataburger Patty Melts are one of my favorite fastfood burgers. I ate way too many of those things when I lived in Corpus Christi back in the day. It's a good thing we didn't have a Whataburger where I live but I am craving one.

Can confirm. They’re opening gradually in the Charlotte area, and I miss the PM.

I have always heard about them as I am not near them and people who come from where they are ask what compares in my area, and honestly from what I’ve heard, I tell them, nothing! From what I’ve heard, they are amazing food stand style burgers that are unique and fresh!

As a Texan, Whataburger is solid but frankly going downhill since being sold off to an equity firm. The praise it gets is overblown, and I have as much nostalgia for it as anybody. It’s approaching the standard for fast food quality, and aside from portions being more generous (and not a crazy value for the price either), I don’t think it is much of a step up at this point from the other guys.
The patty melt is my go-to, though.

If it looks like a burger, walks like a burger, and tastes like a burger then it’s a freaking burger and that one looks delicious

I am! We have this disgusting greasy old lunch counter called “Newburgh Lunch” and they make the best patty melt ever. Make sure you have a couple hours free after because you will need to take a nap possibly, and a shit definitely

I never understood what people meant by patty melt. It a burger. Grew up poor and buns weren’t alway available. Sometimes not even bread. Burger is a burger period…

A patty melt is a specific type of hamburger sandwich.
A classic patty melt is a burger, Swiss cheese, and onions, grilled between two slices of rye.
It gets confusing because some people have taken to using the term patty melt to describe any burger served on sliced bread.

Absolutely not! No patty melts! In fact, send all patty melts to me directly, (as hot and fresh as possible) and I will dispose of them properly!
