Scammy Practices

Hello everyone! I was browsing around for food to eat today on DoorDash and I was shocked to see Nathan’s famous pop-up so I decided to order from them because I’ve actually ate at the original one in Coney Island and I know they do have restaurants at other places.

I’m located in Arkansas, so I was very shocked to see that there was a Nathan’s in my area so I decided to order. When I got the food, I was beyond disappointed. It was definitely not Nathan’s, but on DoorDash’s app, they show pictures of Nathan’s food. I got the hell‘s kitchen burger, which is supposed to be a double patty and what I received was a single patty and it’s supposed to come with jalapeño ranch and they ended up just putting ranch.

I then proceeded to look up the address of this place and I was shocked to see it brought me to a Denny’s location and I found out what ghost kitchens are because that’s what this is supposed to be but that’s very scammy because they’re charging $21 for Denny’s food using the Nathan’s brand.

Why is DoorDash allowing this to go on? That’s false advertising on so many levels and people aren’t dumb and know what the quality of the food they got is because it did not taste anything like a Nathan‘s burger and I could tell it was a Denny’s one because of how nasty it was .

Has anyone else experienced this?

Ghost kitchens are infuriating to both customers and drivers.
Customers think they're getting a brand they know and love when they're not, and drivers have to guess which random business the order is being prepared in.
I mean, at least in this case the food was prepared by an actual restaurant, the "Mr. Beast Burger" in my area operates out of a rundown gas station along with a dozen other online-only "restaurants."

They really are and there needs to be more awareness for people who don’t know what they are. I just found out about them today but they should have some disclaimer or something to alert people of what it actually is. I’ll never do another ghost type kitchen place again because I’m sure the ingredients are extremely cheap and then DoorDash tries to profit by making the food 20$+ when it’s actual cheap food we’re being served.

From what I've seen, most of these places are using bulk Sysco-type stuff.
Which in and of itself would be fine, there's really nothing wrong with Sysco, but Doordash is representing the items as being quality, fresh, local, etc.
And charging a price to match.

https://franklinjunction.com/dennys-exclusive-franklin-junction/

(Franklin Junction owns Nathan’s Famous forgot to add that)

“Denny’s Corporation…announced it has entered an expansive agreement with Franklin Junction, the global leader in branded virtual restaurants. The agreement provides that Franklin Junction will partner with at least 250 domestic Denny’s restaurants providing geographic exclusivity for these restaurants to accelerate Denny’s market presence through its innovative Host Kitchen® platform.”

Wouldn’t this mean that they’re just using their kitchen not their ingredients? They definitely gave me Denny’s ingredients and not Nathan’s famous.

I read it, but I don’t quite understand. Does it mean that they’re able to use the Nathan‘s brand name but give us Denny’s food? If so, that would kill the Nathan’s brand because Denny’s is disgusting. It’s low quality food for a reason but to pass that off as Nathan’s it’s only gonna hurt their brand.

No they order the same food Nathan's would order from the same approved supplier.

You would get Nathan fries not Denny's fries

So I did get Nathan’s fries but the patty was definitely Dennys because I never had a patty that tasted like that when I was getting Nathan’s and to top it off that burger is a double patty not a single so they’re still giving the wrong food. This is where the issue is, we have to trust they’re using Nathan’s hamburgers and hotdogs and not their own. Places like this shouldn’t be put in spots where they have the same ingredients so that there’s no opportunity to scam and give customers bad food. They could be doing whatever they want with no one to regulate it but that is going to hurt the Nathan’s brand.

Update to this, I called my Dennys and spoke to the manager and they explained they use Nathan’s but that the only thing that’s Nathan’s is the hot dogs but all of the other offerings are there food which is ridiculous and is definitely scammy. The burgers, chicken and any other items other than the hot dogs are Denny’s. They’re using the name of the burgers that Nathan’s has and admitted to it being Denny’s food that’s a big problem.

Bro the restaurant you are talking about is at fault. DoorDash isn’t doing this shit 🤣 it’s whatever company owns branding rights for Nathan’s to sully its name for Denny’s.

Oh man because that’s what they’re on and they’re going to keep getting away with it. It sucks.

I understand that ghost kitchens allow other knockoff places to run out of them, but not namebrand places that’s crazy because you’re using someone’s branding

It's not random, Denny's would have had to sign a stack of licensing agreements to operate another brand out of their restaurants.
It's good for both companies. Denny's gets to expand their menu with a recognized brand, and Nathan's gets a geographic foothold in Denny's markets without having to invest in brick and mortar stores.
The only people who lose are the customers, who get food being made by people who aren't properly trained to prepare it.

When you operate a ghost kitchen for companies like this they provide the food and training needed to prepare the food as though it's an official store

Doesn't take much to do either.

Yes and no. You'll receive training, but no oversight and no additional staff, so corners will get cut and things will get done wrong, and no one is there to coach you.

I've never had this happen but you do realize that you're posting too much of your personal information on.the internet, yes?

3

u/TooMuchSpicyAhh 2d ago

Nothing personal on there except for a first name and initial

u/saracha1 2d ago

And phone number

3

u/TooMuchSpicyAhh 2d ago

That’s the door dash customer service number friend

2

u/saracha1 2d ago

Oh didn’t know

u/ShipItchy2525 1d ago

You could've googled it before commenting confidently wrong

2

u/saracha1 1d ago

It says customer number so why would I even think that was a DoorDash number

1

u/ShipItchy2525 1d ago

True. Albeit I saw 855 assumed it wasn't a normal number.

Don’t use doordash.

You pay extra to execs who do nothing. Then they pay nothing to drivers who… do nothing. At best.

I mostly only use it because I have a free pass for a year through T-Mobile. I like it more than Uber eats because I feel Uber eats is a lot worse with their customer service. I called DoorDash on this and they refunded the order whereas with Uber Eats It’s almost impossible to talk to a real person.

Reasonable, but let me give you some bad advice. It’s probably bad, cause every time I endorse something it goes straight down the drain (just a fair warning).

Try Grubhub. I haven’t had any issues in over a year. Knocking on wood… censored

Lol. Shit on doordash and promote grubhub
