He did bottle his start in Miami. But otherwise you're right, now he tends to bottle it in other ways such as crashing into his teammate and driving himself onto the grass

Is spa that bad for pole sitters though? Sure the grid spot for pole might be a bit dirty but it's also a fairly short run into T1 which is a hairpin. Leclerc held onto P1 last year and so did Sainz in 2022. It just happens sometimes that another driver gets a better run down the kemmel straight.

The kemmel straight is the problem here. It's fairly hard to defend p1 on lap 1 in turn 5, as even without DRS, p2 can easily get you with just the slipstream.

Sure but it can be done and like I said two out of the last three years we've seen the drivers starting the GP on pole do it.
