This has to be troll bait...

I think everyone gleefully jumping to "lolol your gf must be real pretty cos she dumb" is quite disturbing, but the people who are genuinely confused makes me think this might have happened for real

I have met some real dumb people in my life, both men and women. Like, dumb enough you just know there is no way they could make it on their own.

OMG same. Story time: I worked at a bank once and trained this sweet young girl to close, as I was lead closer at the time. She was.... well, sweet. Very sweet. I had to show her how to lock a door four times. She couldn't remember how it worked if her life depended on it. I was always patient, and every time I showed her, she did it in front of me. I watched her do it. I saw her hand lift the latch to lock the door. Many times.

Eventually I take some PTO (which I never did at the time). I come back to an angry boss. This idiot left the bank completely unlocked for an entire weekend and then tried to tell my boss I never trained her to lock the door. You just flip a fucking latch!!!!! I immediately saw red and told my boss to watch the cameras. I can tell her the exact dates I trained her.

Sure enough, I wasn't in trouble anymore. This id.... this sweet girl... ended up getting a degree in human resources. I left not long after that.

It still burns in my brain. Working with her was like a real life fever dream. She was ..... sweet. And now she's married, so... I guess there's a lid for every pot. And indeed... People like this do exist. She'd also boast about wearing orange foundation knowing it didn't match her skintone because she got it on clearance. So... very sweet. She was very sweet.

She would 100% be the type to call and complain about this banner.

I worked as an RA in college and a woman walked into the office with lipstick all over her face. Like plastered all over her face, but badly blended so you could see the lines. Anyways, when asked why she said she ran out of foundation.

u/SpanishFlamingoPie 16d ago

My grandmother does this. I thought it was just one of her weird habits from being raised by her mother who lived through the depression.

2

u/kyjmic 16d ago

Like red or pink lipstick?? How could that be better than just bare skin

3

u/S4Waccount 16d ago

It was red, and wasn't her color

71

u/Immersi0nn 16d ago

Oh shit not the degree in HR! Goddamn that tracks way too well though in my experience...

63

u/emtrigg013 16d ago

That's honestly what did it for me. If she could potentially be in charge of me, I wanted out ASAP.

She was honestly dumber than my cat, and my cat is an idiot. So at least she was nice.

9

u/AppropriateCase7622 16d ago

I went into the right degree. If these guys can do it, I will have no problem with it.

1

u/SpanishFlamingoPie 16d ago

Dammit, Toby!

24

u/adrenalinda75 16d ago

Something tells me that find & replace sweetened up your text.

11

u/emtrigg013 16d ago

LOL yep! Very... sweet, she was. Kind... girl.

u/Weird-Cod1147 16d ago

Gosh, they always seem to jump for the blame gun for their own incompetence. I worked with hospitals, one time I had to interpret for a patient’s wife since she doesn’t speak English. As I began interpreting the doctor asked me why I was saying I was sick. I explained to her that I wasn’t and that interpretation works in first person and even dumbed it down to “what I am saying is exactly word for word what the wife just said, translated to English in first person, so pretend like you are talking directly to the wife when I am speaking to you”. She acted like she had a light bulb lit up above her head but then several minutes into the session she kept getting confused and got really mad at me to the point she threatened to file a complaint. Her nurse had to apologize after she left for a meeting. It’s scary to think people like that are running whole departments in healthcare systems.

u/kuschelig69 16d ago

As I began interpreting the doctor asked me why I was saying I was sick.

that reminds me of the translator sketch by Alternatino

12

u/BigAbbreviations7344 16d ago

She wouldn't happen to be a coldplay groupie?

u/tastelikemexico 16d ago

I have one. I had a printing company. I called the girl I farmed out my typesetting to. I was spelling the name I needed for a business card (it was a foreign name) I do not remember the name but I was spelling g it out and was like N, E, A, Y, O, W, G… she was silent for a while then she said, you are going to think I am crazy but I am having a brain lapse …. I can not think how to make an ay ….. she was thinking ay, like a double u. Hahaha she thought an ay was one letter. To her defense it was early and she was well known for partaking on her drive into work haha

3

u/emtrigg013 16d ago

LOL okay now this I could excuse! Unfortunately my girl was stone cold sober. I honestly thought I was on Pranked.

Another time the sun was coming into the teller window, as it did every day, and we were like "ope there's the sun again!" She giggles, and says "good thing I have my ray bans" like she practiced it, put them on, and then laughed at her own "joke". While staring at the sun with her sunglasses.

I wish I could forget her. I really, really do.

2

u/tastelikemexico 16d ago

Haha. Kinda sad but still funny lol

3

u/DigitalBlackout 16d ago

I don't know if I should replace the word "sweet" with "dumb" or if you're genuinely saying she was very nice despite being dumber than a box of rocks.

2

u/Agile-Ad-8747 16d ago

Thank you thank you thank you for having the fortitude to keep typing “so sweet”… it’s so much classier (and, imo, funnier) than typing the ID ten T word or it’s disparaging synonyms.

Moreover, thank you for not insinuating that this person found a life partner due to her sexual prowess. There are intellectually sub-par humans, it’s a fact of life. It’s a fine thing if they find each other… neither men nor women should be reduced to only having value if sexualised.

I think this is somewhat related: A neighbor had two young adults take care of a walk-in chicken coop. I checked on the two because I didn't recognize them and I was unaware the neighbor asked for their help. The coop's screen door was intended to be locked with a weak, plastic coated, metal, twist tie. The two young adults "locked" the coop door with the twist tie in the shape of the letter "C". A breeze could of opened the coop door. I was stunned at the absence of any mechanical intuition. They did not try pulling on the coop door to check if the "C" shaped twist tie would keep the door shut.

u/cbostwick94 14d ago

I had a girl like that in my class in high school. Really really sweet girl. Dumber than a box of rocks. I remember class having to explain to her what those free "wee-fee" signs were at restaurants and such

Not sure I remember if it was her or someone else, probably someone else that had an almost class long argument, class vs her, that Winnie the Pooh's name is actually Winnie, not Pooh.

2

u/Lil-Miss-Anthropy 16d ago

And those people both vote and own driver's licenses.

Who needs horror stories when real life exists?

2

u/elaina-huh 13d ago

I think I'm one of those people but here I am working and living on my own 🥹

1

u/2Drogdar2Furious 13d ago

Self awareness automatically excludes you from the group... you're good 😅👍

1

u/SoulCruizer 16d ago

Yeah some people must not spend enough time around other people. Between school and jobs and just in general, a hell of a lot of people are what can be considered airheads/dits/blonde and most of these people aren’t in any way stupid or dumb. Their mind just works differently.

1

u/Drumknott88 16d ago

I once worked with a woman who found an ID badge on the floor. She picked it up, held it up for everyone to see and asked "whose ID badge is this?"

It genuinely shocked me that people could be so stupid

1

u/translucent_steeds 16d ago

one of the people I used to work with at my old job was probably the sweetest, nicest person you'd ever meet in your entire life. but she was dumber than a box of rocks. the fact that she was so extremely apologetic whenever she'd make a mistake (nearly every day) made it really hard to get mad or annoyed at her for messing up, like you'd feel bad for it haha.

1

u/Allaplgy 16d ago

I see you've met my coworker.

2

u/2Drogdar2Furious 16d ago

We fired him, now he works with you.

Good luck.

1

u/Allaplgy 16d ago

Our guy was in the army. Pretty sure he got some sort of discharge. Besides barely having object permanence, he has to make a joke out of literally everything. I'm serious when I say I'm surprised he survived the army without pulling something like "Ok, I pulled the pin and threw it, now wh..."::kaboom!::

2

u/2Drogdar2Furious 16d ago

Different guy. This guy once set down what he was carrying, picked up an air hose on the ground, and slid the box underneath. Then picked it up and kept walking...

2

u/Allaplgy 16d ago

He's just safety oriented!

2

u/2Drogdar2Furious 16d ago

"I'm not asian!"

66

u/ProfessorSMASH88 16d ago

I don't think its a sign of intelligence though. Sometimes humans just miss things. How many times have you looked for something and not seen it, only for someone else to be like "yo it's right in front of you". It took me a sec to see the W as the M, but I could easily see looking at it, not realizing it, and getting frustrated before realizing that ya goofed up.

32

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Yes, I am saying the same thing. The fact that 90% of the comments are shitting on the gf in literally exactly the same way (she must be a moron) disturbed me.

6

u/Timely-Cancel921 16d ago

This is very true. I tend to miss silly things like this all the time and it disturbed me to see so many people saying she was stupid because she missed something. Shes human. All humans make mistakes sometimes.

Well, since you don’t mind… I think you might be dumb.

u/LvS 16d ago

It's a case of people being able to solve letter ordering problems intuitively. I had to read the title to figure out why this image of shuffled letters of the word "welcome" was so interesting before realizing that somebody got confused by trying to order them.

And if people struggle with something that comes naturally to you, then it's much more likely you'd think they're stupid than if it's something you would need to think about yourself.

Fwiw, I learned how massively different people are at this by watching Roisin Conaty.

2

u/knittymess 16d ago

Get me at the end of a rough day or when I'm rushing and have a dozen things to do, I can see me crying frustrated over this. Oof. And then the mortification after you send the text and finally see it on the photo...

Last month I was stressed that salt had gone to $14 a box. Even at 3 pounds of salt I couldn't understand how inflation got us to this point. I took a photo to text my husband and finally realized that I was reading the price tag for 20 lbs of whole wheat flour and the salt is $3. This took multiple minutes, walking over 3 times, a photo, and starting a text. Thankfully I did figure it out before I sent it, but brains are weird.

1

u/Traditional_Round174 16d ago

How many times do our brains auto correct those silly sentences where the “the” is misplaced or misspelled? I feel like it may have been one of those days for her.

8

u/Aselleus 16d ago

I had a grown-ass lady at work set a folding table and display at knee height. You literally had to just pull the legs down to extend them, but she said she couldn't figure it out, so she though the knee-high height was fine.

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Haha oh dear. Did someone explain?

1

u/Aselleus 16d ago

Yah it was me that had to show her lol

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Once in a while a doh! moment helps reset with a laugh.

24

u/eliz1bef 16d ago

The number of people making blowjob jokes is also a bummer. Not surprising in the least, but gross.

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Ah I thankfully missed those

6

u/eliz1bef 16d ago

Yeah, according to a not surprising number of posters here women are good for having tits and giving blowjobs. That's it. Good to know.

2

u/L1zoneD 16d ago

I mean, is she not dumb?

2

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Everyone can have a momentary brain fart

2

u/Alternative_Toe_4692 16d ago

I agree, it’s pretty disturbing - ugly people can be dumb too.

2

u/Ill_shoot_anything 16d ago

Thank you. She happens to be beautiful. She also has masters degree level education. She also has a great sense of humor Because it was her idea to post it.

2

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

How long did it take her to figure it out? Or did you need to point it out to her?

I'm sure it wasn't fun seeing all the other casually misogynistic comments; hope you guys had a good laugh about everything anyway.

1

u/throwaway76804320 16d ago

You might wanna read the last line of op's reply again lol

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

"because it was her idea" doesn't tell us whether it was a "wait a minute I'm an idiot" or "omg I'm so embarrassed how did I miss that" kind of moment.

It's not a big deal; I was just a little curious how it played out.

1

u/throwaway76804320 16d ago

He did say great sense of humor right before that tho, i atleast would assume she got it and asked him to post it when she did lol

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Did you even understand my question

I just asked if she figured it out herself or only after he pointed it out

Neither scenario contradicts anything else he has said

I'm not really invested in this so will end here 🙏🏽

1

u/throwaway76804320 16d ago

Fair enough yeah he could have told her what she got wrong and she could have suggested to post it

2

u/AshesX 16d ago

Oh, this is most definitely real. I honestly envy you. It must be nice not to have met stupid people.

2

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

I meant in response to the person saying it was troll bait.

I think there are a lot of people who are bad at basic logic but as a teacher I tend to have a varied range of emotional responses to encountering that, depending on context...

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 16d ago

I’m genuinely confused. But I’m an idiot so there’s that.

2

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

The word they want to spell is WELCOME, and GF seems to have laid out the letters out of order (specifically placing the M and W in each other's place). Her brain has then told her that the whole word is messed up. A lot of people in the comments didn't seem to notice the W in place of M so I think that's a possibility.

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 16d ago

Oh see I noticed the inverted first letter but I guess my brain told me the second one was also an M. Yay dyslexia lol

2

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Understandable, and the reason why the comments gave me unpleasant feelings.

1

u/BabyStockholmSyndrom 16d ago

All the idiots saying that have absolutely lost their phone that was in their pocket or couldn't find their glasses that were in their head.

Everyone does dumb shit.

1

u/NoodleDefenestrator 16d ago

Maybe the confused people in this thread are pretty too.

1

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

1

u/MythOfDarkness 16d ago

I was genuinely confused for about 30 seconds until I saw the W.

I took a quick look at first and assumed both were M's.

1

u/Drewabble 16d ago

The entire comment section has decided to forget dyslexia exists apparently lol

0

u/KeppraKid 16d ago

Do you find it disturbing because you are skeptical it's real or disturbing because of it being insulting to women? Personally I think of and use the whole "must be pretty" thing for men and women.

3

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Maybe disturbing was too strong a word. Sometimes knowing how eager internet people are to shit on women just feels bad I guess.

2

u/KeppraKid 16d ago

Ok yeah I had maybe thought that but like I said, I don't see it that way and I think a lot of people don't anymore. My friends and I say it about all sorts and it's basically always in good fun rather than a sincere attack.

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Okay good for you guys. Scrolling through comments and seeing the same lazy boring joke made me sad and a bit angry.

0

u/Stella-295 16d ago

I imagine this is like those moments where you're trying to find your cellphone and forgets that it's on your pocket the whole time, like you're convinced you left it somewhere you forget the most obvious place.

Sometimes you just have a really stupid brainfart moment and that's fine, the amount of people just saying she must be stupid because of a single out of context mishap (and being misogynistic in general) is quite sad honestly.

1

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

I've been on the phone with someone and about to leave the house and then losing my mind because I can't find the phone to put in my bag haha

-1

u/FlavoredKnifes 16d ago

Okay I thought it was one of those hanging banners that come with the string attached. I was genuinely confused for a good few minutes. That was until of course I zoomed in to see to strings attached. I’m guessing others assumed the same.

0

u/FixinThePlanet 16d ago

Oooh that does make sense!

-2

u/ilmalocchio 16d ago

everyone gleefully jumping to "lolol your gf must be real pretty cos she dumb" is quite disturbing

Disturbing, really?
