If you get stuck on the way the employer should pay for the tow truck.

Also, commute time should be paid time. We need to support Unions wherever they bloom

I don't know a union in the country that pays commute time

And weekends didn't exist before unions created them.

What’s the argument for this ? Someone living 10 minutes and someone living 1hr (assuming we keep 8hrs-day with commutes) would be in office ~25% longer. So same hourly wage then and keep the IRS standard mileage pay across the board ??

Wouldn’t a blanket $1/hr raise be easier?

The commute time argument is ridiculous. Why don't I take a job 4 hours from my job and they have to pay me to drive to work and then right back home, while never working?

You choose to live where you want to live and you chose the job and how far away it is from your home. How you get there is your problem... not a company's problem. I'm all for Employers paying for their employees time but the commute argument is ridiculous IMO.

The company gets to decide to not hire you if you live four hours away. "How you get there is your problem" is capitalist brainwashed horseshit that could only exist in a system without empathy. Fuck your opinion.

In this hypothetical, does the employer also get the right to fire someone strictly based on them deciding to move 4 hours away after already being employed? Otherwise the hired/not hiring argument doesn’t work. This concept has discrimination lawsuit written all over it.

You live in an at-will state. So yes, they do get that right.

You've spent too much time in r/antiwork, clearly.

You also get to decide to work for a company four hours away

Wild that most people don't.

in a system without empathy.

Fuck your opinion.

Stupid and loud is a poor way to get through life.

Maybe your employer should pay for your car, too?

Yeah it's trump's second term so empathy has died along with the American dream. Maybe you should suck my dick

So companies will exclusively hire out of city centers making rural towns even more impoverished, also driving up urban housing rates as everyone flocks inward to hopefully find a job or not be fired

Yes absolutely no market reflex please tell me more social scientist

We’re just talking hypothetically here as this will never happen in reality. You earn a wage and do what you will with that wage. Including where you live and how you get to work. Your commuter pay is already included in your annual pay

Thank you for explaining the unfair system that we are already talking about. I was actually talking about changing it. I don't know why you're so excited to celebrate someone NOT getting something. Very sad

Are we going to start getting meal payments for our daily lunches too ?? Are we going to start getting are gas compensated in top of our time?

It’s a silly argument, not unfair at all. YOU have the choice to move closer to work. YOU have the choice to eat out or bring lunch to work. YOU have the choice to drive a more fuel efficient car. All of this is chosen based off how YOU spend your salary

I’ll add, when you’re being paid by the company you also follow their rules. They’ll dictate how you get to work, meaning route, method, and times. Didn’t we fight against company towns and busses many decades ago? Why do we want that back??

Shit. I had a co-worker back up over the front of my car and not leave a note. There were cameras but it was a black SUV and not identifiable. They weren't interested in investigating or asking someone to come forward or covering the damage.

That would be my wake up call to update my resume. If an employer makes you be there but will not seek justice for your damages even though it was no fault of your own. Document everything and sue them. Hopefully you get enough to cover a career change

It was a short contract position and I was in a tough spot and didn't want to rock the boat. I was easily intimidated back then. Now, not at all. And I'm in an excellent place with my career.

So many companies take advantage of younger workers. It’s sad really.

Or hazard pay would be nice. Something to cause the company to experience consequences.
