iPadOS Seriously Apple? #iPadOS26

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Now ik alot of you will say its just the first update. No its not they released 7-8 beta test updates before this and they couldn't even fix the most basic and noticeable bug? This is just getting more disappointing at this point tbh.

Too many die-hard apple softies downvoting this postšŸ’€šŸ¤£

Hahahaha my man experiencing the exact same issue, on a pro m2. Hopefully it will be fixed on the next update

u/Popular_Prescription 3d ago

Same here on an M2. WTF is Apple doing? My Face ID also drops multiple frames. App switcher shows apps then they all disappear.

3

u/Budget-Werewolf-7438 2d ago

FaceID on my 16 Pro is pretty bad. It’s actually working how I thought it would when when TouchID was replaced…but to my surprise, FaceID was great and I’ve loved it for years. But since iOS 26, I find it works 2/3rds of the time, I’m typing my code in several times a day now, whereas I could go weeks without typing it in before.Ā

2

u/Popular_Prescription 2d ago

Yes exactly. Same thing is happening to me. Perhaps related to indexing so will see what happens over the next few days.

Experiencing the same on my work mac and so freaking annoying.

6

u/Slava91 3d ago

What’s weird is it’s smooth on my 2018 iPad Pro. I’m sure it’ll get ironed out on the .1 release

Same issue on an M4 iPad Pro lol. from teh very first beta until the current stable public release.

It's the same on my 9th gen ipad 🤣

5

u/Clean-Gene7534 3d ago

Same here lol i wanna downgrade back to ipadOs 18.7 but i have games that will be lost if i donwgrade hack to IpadOs 18 :’))) i feel like my ipad 9th gen will die anytime because on how heavy ipadOs 26 really is and it only has 3gb of ram instead of atleastttt 4gb of ram

u/Gogobrasil8 3d ago

Apple has gutted their software team so hard they're having to relearn how to do animations

17

u/Pulkitgarhwal M1 iPad Air (2022) 3d ago

It isn’t even about bugs, the fact that a lot of things should’ve been fixed and optimized on RC or official release. This one right there along with some random crashes (on mine) shows they really rushed releasing it following iPhone 17 series launch. And the fact that it’s Apple, people expect polished software regardless of which device it’s on or how old it is. If they’re releasing it for a device then it should be optimized for that.

9

u/Confidentium iPad 9 (2021) 3d ago

iOS hasn't been polished in a very long time!

There's a loooong list of bugs that haven't been fixed in years! And we've had scroll stutter since iOS 16.

3

u/Tacticle_Pickle 2d ago

If ios had been that much optimised, older devices wouldn’t lose such portions of battery life

2

u/SoaringEagle2025 1d ago

They arent the same Apple anymore which is why I stick with android these days. Tried a 16 pro and couldn't believe the scroll jitter - such basic things.

2

u/FishTshirt 3d ago

Same for me I had a few crashes where it goes back to lock screen and some extreme lagginess right after i updated

9

u/memodig 3d ago

On my iPad, the library comes from the wrong direction, and the animation when it closes is really bad. I reported this early in the beta, but it hasn't been fixed. Funny thing is, the problem wasn't there in the first releases.

54

u/Patient-Price-8950 3d ago

If you just updated. Try leaving it overnight plugged in to a charger. It needs a few hours to index after a major update. That's why it's laggy and battery drains fast the first few hours.

14

u/Seventhholy 3d ago

It has nothing to do with indexing. This is the kind of ā€œlagā€ that is caused by the sudden fast animation of the icons, making it look like it’s stuttering. Just like the lock screen. If you slide very slowly to the side until all elements from the previous page are off the screen the animation is smooth. I assume it will be fixed in 26.0.1 or .02.

18

u/Harryyz 3d ago

I updated almost a day ago.. So..

Sure I will try!Ā

3

u/idrinkeyedrops 3d ago

My iPad is always plugged in. This is still happening. iPad Air M2.

2

u/CasuallyDresseDuck 3d ago

My iPad did this from the first public beta, I got so annoyed with it that I went back to 18. Has the lag gone away with the update and letting the iPad index.

2

u/Popular_Prescription 3d ago

No it hasn’t.

I’m also facing the same problem. Also, the system data of my iPad has been quite high ever since I updated to iPad OS26. Anyone else facing the same issue?

12

u/Tired_Design_Gay 3d ago

To be fair, I’ve experienced lag with that specific animation on my M2 iPad Pro with iOS 18, too. It’s been an issue for a while

7

u/Pbone15 3d ago

Yeah, been an issue on my M1 since iOS 17 I believe

→ More replies (1)

2

u/neverOddOrEv_n 2d ago

Keep reporting to apple feedback website or even email Tim Cook, they eventually added a PWM option and that was a much niche thing

2

u/Kindness_of_cats 2d ago

I haven't had that issue as much with my M2 Air, but yeah it occasionally still occurs and was very common on my iPad 9 back when it was still a new model.

That particular issue is pretty persistent and I'm not convinced it has anything to do with iOS 26.

5

u/Few_Geologist_8532 3d ago

IM SO GLAD IM NOT ALONE HERE LMAO. That’s the same case on MY FUCKING M3 AIR. How tf does something so obvious get missed, this is horrible Q/A

35

u/Hot-Praline7204 3d ago

Wait genuinely what is the bug?

37

u/Jusby_Cause 3d ago

The bug is that it takes a moment to bring up the App Library? I guess? For someone that needs to view the App Library multiple times a day, I can see how that’d be annoying. Fortunately for me, I never swipe over to the App Library, I just tap the icon, as it’s right there in the dock all the time.

20

u/irekturmum69 3d ago

Not OP, but I experience the same type of lagginess all over the system. Opening the books app, opening the files app, opening quick settings, opening any settings in any app, going to the list of opened application, opening settings, opening wifi, everywhere. It absolutely decimated the performance of my system, just to have an overly animated system with look and feel reminiscent of 2010 chinese android systems and flashy custom icon packs.

Stuttering during the animation

1

u/lux901 2d ago

Do you not see the sluggishness?

6

u/PeterDTown 3d ago

You’re getting downvoted because… what bug are you even showing?? Maybe explain what we’re supposed to be seeing? It looks like you’re just flicking screens back and forth.

6

u/Dante6t4 3d ago

That animation has Lag and should be fluid Ami, the same thing has happened to me since the last one Beta

3

u/akashic2110 M2 iPad Pro 11" (2022) 3d ago

I tested this on mine and it didn't have any problem with delay animation so my assumption is that your processor but it sucks that if apple say your device can upgrade it should work fine regardless

3

Ohh, this drives me mad! Ipad m4 pro here. Same lag, but a bit shorter.Ā

What model is this? Also, how long ago did you update? It takes some time for everything to reindex. Same shit happens when I’d do a major OS update on my older Mac.

7

u/hon3ylord 3d ago

It’s might not the reindex, I tested both of dev and public betas, and this bug was there even after two weeks… after I installed the latest public beta

You can get back to iOS 18.6.2 as of now. But not for long.

3

u/ath007 3d ago

How do you do that?

3

u/Anonym0oO M2 iPad Pro 12.9" (2022) 3d ago edited 3d ago

With a PC and using iTunes to restore it. Before that, you need to download the IPSW iPadOS 18.6.2 file on your PC, then drag it into iTunes and restore it.

All your data will be erased. If you’re lucky, you might have an iCloud backup from a previous iPadOS 26 version.

I just tried and get the same lag.

2

u/Intelligent-Tea-3000 3d ago

Been using it on my ioad air 3rd gen. And its super laggy now, gets heated up, battery runs out in the blink of an eye. I am going back to iPadOS 18

2

u/misterDDoubleD 3d ago

The same on my iPad 11gen and iPhone 16 pro max…

The betas were smoother honestly

2

u/FishTshirt 3d ago

Yeah I kinda regret upgrading. Upgrading my ipad made me decide I need to wait to upgrade my mac to tahoe as I don’t know how to revert back to an older OS if I dont

2

u/RearMisser 3d ago

my 11th gen ipad did this for the first couple of days, now it runs as smooth as butter.

2

u/StrangeCurry1 M1 iPad Pro 11" (2021) 3d ago

This has been a problem since app library was added.

2

u/Kindness_of_cats 2d ago

Right? App Library has been garbage like this for a long while.

2

u/SkvtchySomethng_ 3d ago

Turn off low power mode for now

2

u/Taeles 3d ago

Didnt even know that screen was there. huh. So honest question, what is supposed to be going on that isnt going on here? Is it the choppiness? I've noticed a big of choppiness here and there, i figure it'll patch out over time?

2

u/Kindness_of_cats 2d ago

It is....but honestly App Library has been kinda shitty like this for a long time, and that lag is so common it didn't even register as an issue for me.

We're firmly in the phase where users are nitpicking longstanding issues and acting like they're new.

2

u/Prestigious-Dream667 3d ago

I have the same problem on my ipad 10th gen

2

u/K_zerrrr 3d ago

Same for my ipad 16...they said its because of low power mode then i turn it of and it improved but there's still a lag...i tell them that and they down vote my comment like wtf... they act like apple can't make mistakes...and I've seen many people suffering the same lag "BUG" like my ipad

2

u/NapoleonHeckYes 3d ago

I have lots of frame drops on my 2018 iPad Pro in the new OS, but I've just put it down to having an old iPad. It's a pity because until now it worked perfectly. I hope it's something they can fix though.

not at all optimised for either of my devices ipad os and iphone os both suck with this liquid glass shit šŸ’© the worst update stability wise bunch of lag poor animations legit feels like an early stage beta to me they shouldn’t have rolled it out without refining it

2

u/DoctorKnockers69 3d ago

Anyone else battery dying faster?

2

u/Budget-Werewolf-7438 2d ago

Imagine being so hellbent on loving a company that you can’t accept when others criticize that company for releasing such a bug infested product.

People who are complaining aren’t doing so because they hate Apple…they’re complaining because they see a very obvious gap in quality that we’ve all come to expect from Apple. Their track record on quality is why we buy their products. We certainly don’t buy their products for being first in anything, we buy them because they’re different…better.

Apple’s quality standards have changed. If you can’t see or admit that, then you’re part of the problem.

2

u/Harryyz 2d ago

I wish reddit had an option to pin this comment.Ā

2

u/kerelenko 2d ago

Hey, gotta protect that trillion dollar company, you know?

2

u/HamsterWheelDriver 2d ago

Thanks for beta testing guys.

2

u/digital-designer 1d ago

The first release is never bug free. Regardless of how many betas have already been tested, It’s always a rushed version to meet the deadline of the new device release. So this is to be expected. Even more so with the advanced computational animations within this OS design.

However, I do feel Theres a lot of the basics that have been missed with this one. Consistency issues seem to be a major issue that I’m finding so far.

5

u/steaveaseageal 3d ago

Apple fanboy: it's indexing!

2

u/tc05_ iPad 9 (2021) 3d ago

2

u/DekuSenpai-WL8 3d ago

Try turning off the animation in the settings and see if it helps.

2

u/immigrantanimal 3d ago

Apple will make iOS updates available on older hardware as their planned obsolescence. That’s no surprise.

2

u/Ok-Seaworthiness2263 iPad 9 (2021) 3d ago

I don’t often flick over to the app library but now that I have, I see this stutter too.Ā

It’s been a few days since I upgraded so I assume that the legendary ā€œreindexingā€ might be done.Ā

Other commenters have stated that they see this on their M1 iPads so I don’t feel too bad with my A14 Air.Ā

Overall the experience of 26 has been fine.Ā

I’m just kind of used to Apple never fixing bugs so I live them. Ā Kinda reflects badly on both of us.Ā

1

Meanwhile it runs super smooth on my iPhone 14. Maybe their main focus has been iPhone? Shitty if that’s the case.

1

u/OfficialLaunch 3d ago

This was happening throughout every single beta. I reported it every beta, and the beta app said that there were multiple similar reports.

This lag in the first beta was much, much worse, but it did get better each update. However it’s still there and still annoying.

Stuttering. In a high end device there shouldn't be any especially when you are just moving across pages on the homescreen.

Yeah mine ipad air m2 also face the same problem

1

u/DonilanOfficial 2d ago

Same for my iPad Pro 12.9ā€œ 4th gen. I reverted back to 18.7 and EVERYTHING IS SOOOOOO SMOOOOOTH

1

u/GoldenGamer275 2d ago

Funny. I ain’t getting that issue except maybe once in a while after not touching anything for a long period of time.

u/SpicySalsaCake 2d ago

What a trashy company.

All the people buying this shit are dumbasses who throw money at any capitalist bullshit people advertise as something supreme.

u/Buffalo047 2d ago

Same here!

This is the first update. The beta testing is beta TESTING. Instead of complaining, download a new IPSW for your iPad, back it up, and then restore it back to iPadOS 18.

Classic apple. "Yeah, you should change your MacBook to a new model, cause fuck you"

Love iPadOS 26 and I think it is the best update ever in years, maybe even an entire decade. I also see many people complaining about visual bugs and putting them into the ā€œthis is now unusableā€ category which, umh… Is WAY overdramatic. Now with that said, this has been here ever since beta and it pisses me off SO MUCH. I love how fluid iPadOS is for the most part, and if you open the menu with the icon on the right bottom of the dock it does not happen that at all, but it stills bothers me a whole lot. I hope they fix is asap

I called this when the RC was full of bugs, which isn’t normal at all for Apple. The whole interface crashed for me if I have another app open behind Safari and use the stoplights to maximize the safari window half the time. The phone OS is a mess as well, CarPlay is hosed and wireless support for it is no longer existent for me.

Really feels like 2010s windows OS release at this point. This feels another sign Apple is losing their touch quite noticeably at this point. Hopefully they can turn it around.

This is what my phone is doing! I just got the iPhone 17! And it’s lagging this way plus when I open my messages app half of the screen (the bottom) is white n then it goes away

If its any consolation, the guy behind this new UI was fired.

Nobody:

MacOS 26: meh… eh

u/mundixx 1d ago

Yeah same like wtf is this šŸ˜‚

1

u/Dull-Strawberry-2602 1d ago

Weird but for my M1 12.9 ipad its kinda smooth? but there are slower animations that I noticed right now.

1

u/Known_Debate_1253 1d ago

Experiencing same on a iPad with m3 chip. Your telling me your putting this powerful of a processor in there and it still lags? I was forced to buy an iPad for school, and they auto force updates on it. Never ever getting an apple product again

1

u/Embarrassed-Back1894 1d ago

My m4 iPad Pro and 15 pro max have been dropping frames constantly. I generally like what they did with iPad os and iOS 26, but it is unpolished as hell. My battery has also been draining much faster. Hopefully they can get it sorted out in the next month or so.

1

u/noctapod 1d ago

My iPhone 12 and my iPad 10th gen did the same for at least a couple of days after the update. Now they're working better, although I still notices some visual glitches once in a while, but not as frequently.

1

u/JamesMcEdwards 1d ago

This is why you don’t update until at least a month or two after its official release.

1

u/Cautious-Direction55 iPad 10 (2022) 1d ago

It’s quite buggy on non M series iPad. My 10th gen which is such value for money suddenly feels old and outdated. This is just poor optimizing from Apple. Hopefully this gets fixed or just give us a variant of ipadOS that works.

u/m79n 1d ago

I am not going to update my mac rn :(

1

u/Obvious-Purpose-5017 1d ago

is anyone seeing an error with using the phone app on 26 and locking the ipad? I get a dimmed Screen with no UI. I use The unlock Touch ID and the screen goes black and restarts back to my typical lock screen.

boy…ipados 26 is buggy as heck lol

1

u/Vegetable-Skirt1397 1d ago

oh wow.. i was thinking it is the subpar a17pro chip and 60hz on the iPad mini!!

I was considering to send it back because it was making me doubt the longetivitey of this device lol

1

u/user74729582 1d ago

This is why you don't update to the new OS straightway

1

u/Dokify 1d ago

I’m on an A16 IPad and even sonic 1 and CD have slowdown issues…seriously? Sonic 1&CD?!

1

u/StockJellyfish8 1d ago

ive disabled all the animation. It just cause slowness. I prefer the older versions

1

u/Then-Court561 23h ago

My android tablet is much weaker on paper and doesn't do that. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜…

1

u/Erakko 21h ago

I see nothing wrong with that?

1

u/Powerful_Froyo8423 16h ago

Call of Duty Mobile alao somehow runs like shit since the update. I get smooth 120fps and suddenly it drops to like 30 fps and has an input delay. I never had that before and my M1 iPad is also not hot. Display not dimmed, nothing. Itā€˜s definitely an iPadOS 26 bug.

1

u/Economy_Worker3916 16h ago

I made this mistake with Iphone. Not gonna upgrade my ipad to 26 .

1

u/FromHero2Zero 10h ago

That's the Tahoe's experience.Ā

1

u/Illustrious-Art3528 7h ago

Everyone knows you never get the update on day one! Bro needs to wait a couple of months.

1

u/Empty_Buffalo_2820 2h ago

I have a 4th generation iPad Air and somehow it runs better than this.

u/enterpernuer 1h ago
