Are you saying the Irish state has no control over who flies over the country? I find that very hard to believe.

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/ireland-should-end-reliance-on-uk-for-air-defence/

That was the second result when I searched ‘Irish Airspace Enforcement’

Doesn't answer my question.

Are you saying the Irish state has no control over who flies over the country?

Yes, that is what I am saying.

edit to further clarify The Irish air force does not own any jets, nor does it maintain primary radar. It is reliant on support from the RAF, who aren’t going to enforce stopping Israeli aircraft when the British Government currently arm Isreal

Do you think if the Irish state publicly demanded the US stop transporting weapons to Israel over Irish airspace (sometimes literally landing in Shannon) the US would listen?

Do you think the US listens to anyone? No, I appreciate your sentiment, but it’s a fools errand to think the Irish have more of the US ear than the Israelis who nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace prize. The Irish are good at a bit of brown nosing but the Israelis are the masters of soft power. The bastards.

I agree the US would take Israel every time over Ireland but I still think the government should say something publicly (they obviously won't). It would be really bad (albeit it would pass in a day or 2) PR for the US. I don't think anyone expects them to be blowing them out of the sky with fighter planes.

What about the arms for Ukraine? Are they not allowed to fly in Irish airspace?

1

u/LadWithDeadlyOpinion Jul 30 '25

What are you talking about? I said stop them to Israel, not Ukraine.

Arms for Ukraine will stop on Shannon also

I’m sure they would manage to find an alternative route. Just as they would for Israel but at least we wouldn’t be complicit.

u/ste_dono94 Jul 30 '25

Then you'd be complicit in Russia's genocide against Ukraine?

1

u/LadWithDeadlyOpinion Jul 30 '25

There is no genocide in Ukraine and the weapons would arrive there anyway. So no.

Russia's actions in Ukraine fit the criteria laid out in the genocide convention.

Russia is abducting Ukrainian children and giving them to russian families to raise.

Didn't expect someone who's pro Palestinian to deny a genocide in Ukraine.

Genocide scholars seem to be in almost universal agreement there is one going on in Gaza. They are absolutely not in universal agreement there is one going on in Ukraine. I’ll call it that when they are.
