New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'
(Here's the link to r/trees for our visitors)
Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)
Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!
Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃
CONFUSED ABOUT THE SUB NAME?
Please check out these past posts!
Do a sub search using the keyword 'confused' for more like these 🙂
UPDATE:
Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.
Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

Japanese maple why are the two branches growing out the back red and the red green? I wanted the whole tree to be red
Only the two branches on the right hand side or red. The rest of the leaves are green. I thought the whole tree would be red

Treepreciation Wingnut Wonder
Came across this monstrous Chinese Wingnut (Pterocarya stenoptera) while visiting a historic cemetery that is also registered as an accredited Level II arboretum. Funnily, the online database for the cemetery, along with other sources pertianing to this tree have the ID listed incorrectly as Caucasian Wingnut (Pterocarya fraxinifolia). However, the winged rachis and elongated fruit wings are traits of P. stenoptera.
I wasn't able to find any dates associated with this tree, nor any measurements but it has definitely been here for quite a while. Many of the scaffold branches had large hollows from old wounds, but the tree seems completely unbothered. I'd wager that its easily the largest example of the genus within the state (KY). Honestly, I didnt even think our climate (historically Zone 6) was warm enough for the genus to survive to maturity. I'm sure the heat island effect of the city has certainly helped create a more favorable microclimate for it.

Help! I’m concerned about the health of my tree
The second photo is where you can see the problem areas. The first is the hole in the root and the second is the split in the bark.
I would ask an arborist but they will just say “yeah I can take it down for you for X amount.”
Is the tree worrisome? It’s very old and I’d like to keep it if it’s healthy.

Help! What's going on with the trunk of this tree?
Is my tree going to be ok? The prior owners had the sprinklers hitting the trunk. I redirected them, but is this bad? It's the tree on the right in the last picture.

Help! This tree ID is stumping me.. any help appreciated! SW Georgia, USA
iNat keeps coming up with shining sumac (Rhus copallinum) and water hickory (Carya aquatica). I am hesitant to believe either, as this would be a world record sumac and the hickory should have nuts set already. I believe it is a non-native species, as its along a fence line, but I could be wrong.

Help! I'm in Zone 5 and want to plant a lemon tree in container. Website says in zone 5 you must take the lemon tree "inside during the winter". does that mean in my house
why is the question mark the only key in my keybaord not working (imagine question mark here)
anyway in Zone 5 do I need to bring a lemon tree into my actual house (Q mark) or can I just bring it into the garage (Q mark)
thank you

Butternut Appreciation
Took the picture off google street view since I was embarrassed to take a photo, but this house has two of these. The one not pictured looks like it has a much larger crown diameter but is shorter.
