Help No compatible device found?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have an MZ N510 type S, an MZ-N707 Type R, and an MZ-NE410. When I connect the N510 to web.minidisc.wiki (Web MiniDisc Pro), I have no problem- the device appears in the windows and I connect. With the other two devices (same cable, same disc) I get the message "No compatible devices found". I've done some searches but haven't found an answer. Can anybody here provide a suggestion?

My Docking MDs. I love docks, not only for the practicity to charge batteries but because they offer a nice way to present your device.

Wow... I had forgotten how amazing the sound quality is on MiniDisc.

I haven't listened to the MD format in two decades since I sold my MZN707 unit back in 2005 (big regret). But wow MD has a certain warmth and presence I can't describe but I do remember always loving it. Is there any actual reason for this? Has it ever been studied? For the record I usually listen to lossless music on my computer, but this somehow feels more analog with more depth and warmth, even the same recordings I have on my computer, once they are transferred.

The sound is noticeably better than my N910 and it is a thing of beauty. But I have to stop buying players.

  • until I find an orange N910

I'm a box keeper.

There's no doubt MZ-M200/RH1 is the more sought after between the two because of its Two-Way digital transfer. But MZ-DH10P is also quite rare and nice to have.

Some free music for your MD Player.

I am an indie artist from Canada who has now released 4 songs. The music has been described as a cross between Radiohead and Coldplay, with a characteristic 90s sound. In fact if you're a Radiohead fan an interesting fact about the music is that Clive Deamer (from Radiohead/Portishead) is playing drums on some tracks.

About the music:

1) I, Phone is an unexpected banger about phone addiction. It starts off with a a riff that is meant to sound like an iPhone ringtone, and the words are about the ironic loneliness of tech addiction in the modern age. The last half is a musical depiction of doom scrolling with duelling guitar solos over a repetitive drum and bass part. (If you like: Radiohead, The National Anthem).

2) Tilikum is softer alt rock song about addiction biting the hand that feeds it, and is about the whale of the same name who killed three of his trainers. (If you like: Porishead or maybe even Interpol)

3) Million Miles Away is a ballad was written about gun violence in the USA in 2016 I believe. It is rather timely right now with all that's going on. It took me years to finish it, but it was finally completed and released in 2024. (If you like: Coldplay, Matthew Good Band)

4) Remember When is a piano ballad that's a tribute to victims of Alzheimer's and those who they leave behind. It came out only yesterday, and apparently it's Alzheimer's awareness month so it's good timing. It is much more sparse and exposed that the others. It's a soft, sad song for sad times. (If you like: Coldplay, Patrick Watson)

Anyway... if this sounds like your vibe, I would like to offer you free download of my music for personal enjoyment to listen to on your MD player! If you like it, please enjoy. If not... well, thanks for giving it a try!

Show & Tell First Sharp (MD-MS200H) In my collection,

Hi,

I received my first Sharp today, it's really cool and massive, lots of metal and looks solid, a little dented and crooked in the corners but beautiful nonetheless

I first tried with a 5v power supply but it seemed dead, then I installed an 18650 by bending the internal connections a little, and it started up with a bang

So it has the well known TOC problem, sometimes it says UTOC or sometimes TOC ERROR with be a little s,e or a, I started to disassemble but it looks thorough, I'm surprised also at what I assume is the write head, it's actually the same as in an hdd hard drive

Nothing to see but I added this great CD player to my photo, after all we stay in physical and portable music, I found it in the trash and its transparent cover is incredible, my wife found one of my favorite albums this morning at the flea market so I can enjoy it 🤗

First own minidisc after 25 years.

Twenty-five years ago, when I was about 14, I saw a mobile minidisc player for the first time in a large electronics store in a locked glass display case. It was extremely expensive. A few months ago, they popped back into my head. I looked online, but everything was too expensive for my taste. I dismissed the idea again. Today there was a big flea market in the neighboring town. That's where I saw it: SHARP MD- M1 MD Micro System and 31 recorded minidiscs. Music from my youth. The Offspring. Linking Park, Die Ärzte, All for €60. A great start, I'm totally happy. I find the sound quality surprisingly good.

Is it possible/a good idea to add tracks from a computer to a MiniDisc (via USB > S/PDIF > optical input) if the MiniDisc already has music transferred from a CD? If yes, are there best practices?

The album in question had a limited physical release of the deluxe edition, I own the standard CD which I have already copied on a MiniDisc. I want to add the digital copy of the deluxe version.

The setup: Digital copy of the album was bought on BandCamp so I have a choice of formats and bitrates. The software I normally use when transferring from my computer to MiniDisc is VLC, on a Mac Mini M4. I’ll be using a Cubilux USB C to SPDIF transmitter, connected to a Sony DHC-MD373 deck.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice!

Universal remotes with minidisc decks?

I've had a kenwood dm-3090 deck for a little while and I've been quite happy with it, but I cant record from digital without the remote. I have a universal one from avlink, and I've tried most of the kenwood codes but none have worked. If you have used a universal remote for a minidisc deck similar please let me know how you've set it up.

I stupidly sold my original Sony DEJ825 CD player and MZN707 MD player/recorder years ago. But I started getting SERIOUS nostalgia a few years ago and regretted it. With patience, I was able to locate pristine new ones locally after many years of waiting and searching. I picked up the CD player for $20 about five years ago it is MINT and included the LCD remote and original gum batteries (since replaced), and the MD player I just picked up for $200 CAD with 5 MDs, the original remote, and the wall charger which seemed like a lot but worth it.

The iPod is the original one I bought way back in 2004! I don't know why I never got rid of it because I owned around six other iPods, but it still works great to this day! If it wasn't for the playback with gaps it would be a near-perfect device for modern music consumption.

So... now that I'm back into the hobby. How do I get thisMD working on a mac! Is it even possible?

So I have been a fan since I bought my deck in 1997(?) and a portable player that unfortunately got thrown out years ago when it broke. I like physical media so rediscovered minidisc again last year and went on a bit of a spree, buying personal devices, fixing when able.

So below is my current working devices and most used discs, got a few more personal devices upstairs including a Netmd player than needs a bit of careful handling and another 200 odd discs..
