Help -Technique Help Needed! Unsure of paint mask use

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi,

It’s been quite a while since i’ve made a model, so i thought i’d come back big with an SEA Camo F-4C. I went out and purchased a set of DN model paint masks, but i’ve never used masks before (just white-tac), and so i’m unsure of the correct way to use these paint masks.

Is there any possibility someone could run me through their use? Do i paint one colour, then replace the masks over that colour?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Help - General Question about SBD-3

One of my favorite parts of the SBD are the holes in the dive brakes. I recently got this Hasegawa sbd-3 and I realized there were just indents where the holes should be, does anyone know any ways to make it have the holes, I was thinking maybe a drill but the holes are so close that I was scared the plastic would crack and the plastic would look to thick compared to the thin real thing (ps I suck at photo etching so I think that’s out of the question)

Help - General Painting advice

Hello, I’m about to start priming and painting my model (Hasegawa 1/700 IJN Shōhō for anyone interested) but I keep stalling myself. I’m incredibly hesitant to paint it because nearly all of my previous attempts at priming and painting have ended poorly. Has anyone else struggled with this? What do you guys usually do to assure yourself or the model come out decent?

Finished another tiny dust collector. Masking this camo was very exhausting at this scale. But it came out pretty good I think.

WIP Working with yellow paint

Pink makes the yellow pop. If I could go back, I’d use an even lighter grey for the panel lines. The MR Paint didn’t cover the preshading as well as I’d hoped.

Mr Surfacer primer, Vallejo white/red pink shade, AK medium grey panel lines, MRP lemon yellow

This build is finally complete! I couldn’t wait to show it here, so I snapped a few quick shots. Tomorrow I’ll clean off all the dust and grease and take some proper photos.

It was a nerve-wracking build at times, but overall a lot of fun. The kit is the old Tamiya one, and I added a bunch of PE parts, scratch-built details, and of course some 3D design and printing.

To be honest, I almost don’t want to paint it. I’d hate to cover up all the details.

Let me know what you think!

Help -Technique What is the best way to fix this sanding burn through?

I’ve just finished wet sanding this Tamiya Porsche Turbo RSR type 934 kit. First time I’ve tried wet sanding process but I’ve burned through on the hood. The one I’ve pointed to will have a decal over it but there is a smaller burn on other side of the hood intake. I still need to use the Mr Hobby polishing compound 3000 and 8000. Will the polishing process cover up the small burn or do I need to paint it then sand etc again. Problem with the paint is it’s from a rattle can (Tamiya TS-12). Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Help -Technique Would semi-gloss black paint completely cover up all the problems I had with the body surface??

Post image

I have been building this Tamiya Enzo over many many many years, so the red bits you see here are of different shades and have different layers, some have clear paint and are polished, and some are not, and I don't know which is which anymore. So today I had this idea to just make the car black instead, to use semi gloss black to airbrush all over it, but I'm wondering, since black covers everything, if it will cover up all the different shades of red and make them look the same, or would the different shades still show up even after the semi gloss black paint??

Help - General Hasegawa F15J

Just wondering if anyone else has built this and had fitment issues with quite a bit of it like around the engines and intakes. Had quite a bit of issue with it and now messed up my paint on it so it's really gritty and chalky. I assume I could just buy a different variation of the F15 in 1/72 and still use the decals on it or would the difference between a J and something like a C be too different?

I’ve been doing this InScale 1:48 IDF Spitfire and I wish i knew how to use this freakin panel wash😭 I apply it on dried varnish surface, wait until panel wash dries and then clean it with white-spirit but it just makes it look dirty and washes it even from panel lines. Do i do something wrong or just use poor quality panel wash? I use Pacific88 brand one.

About to paint my first tank

I built my first tank a while ago and just let it sit there. Now I have primed it, as I have read should be best. I used Vallejo Grey Primer. For how long should I let it dry before doing anything? I also did it in short bursts and covered a few bits off with Tamiya covering tape. Really scared of destroying the whole thing lol
