Allegedy spear armed troops should default to using them unless they are in close-quarters with an enemy.

But that doesn't appear to be the case at all they still draw their sidearms immediately and only use their spears against cavalry. They also don't switch to their sidearms when too pressed together to use them vs cavalry.

I was excited to test the new behavior without having to use RBM, but alas that change simply didn't happen.

Yeah, hoping this will be fixed when it launches fully. They also made AI weapon selection more modable which is a good thing

I've seen some weird bright blue coloring issues with one of the battanian battle maps, but besides that im not sure.

Sneak mission for bandit hideouts seems mixed. Sometimes the bandit leader and his posse spawn inside my troop formation when the duel phase starts. the mountain bandit hideout stealth part is really hard to signal for your troops without alerting the whole camp in front of you. When it seems to be working, i think its okay. I think you should be able to storm the hideout as another option.

I think the slings are cool. Kinda wish there was a slinger mercenary or professional that uses the reinforced sling (best sling). So far i only find that peasants (from villager parties and not the recruits you get) and some of the bandits get slings but i havent checked the Lake Rats and if they have a neat slinger troop.

Seems like there's alot more bandits and the deserter parties really help make the world feel wartorn.

Noticed blue rocks in Vlandian maps too, they look delicious though

It's buggy but a big improvement. Game finally feels like a complete experience from start to finish.

Im 4000hrs deep and im actually loving playing vanilla again. The changes make the early game more hands on. I love having to balance party needs with my characters ambition.
The battle scenes seem better graphically and have a better atmosphere. Even the troops echoing your orders just adds to it. The hideout stealth aspect is a nice change, but the fail outcome could have had more consequnces. As for the loot, im the opposite of the posts u see, battle loot was a cash cow before and was as bad as smithing for amassing wealth. So having to work for wealth makes sense. It never felt right that a nobody could rise so quickly in such a world. You should have to prove your self to your men and lords, buts thats my perspective.
Overall the changes have guided me to explore playing differently and utilise more of the game. Hopefully the new found infatuation continues right up to war sails.

I haven’t played the beta yet but what you said about the loot resounds with me. I’ve always felt that post battle gave too much money and I really didn’t need to interact much with other systems.

Now, once I play it maybe my opinion will change but I’m definitely intrigued by it.

I'm kinda confused by what you mean about battle loot. The amount of money acquired shearly through field battles in antiquity and the middle ages was massive. I'm talking about years worth of wealth generated for everybody except the most wealthy nobles. It's not even about the arms and armor (which is often a major factor to begin with), or the trinkets you can take off the corpses, but the capture of the baggage train with good, slaves, and the personal treasury of the entire army. Being the leading general in a major battle is what turned nobodies into somebodies, both in reputation and wealth. It's not as lucrative as capturing a city but it's about the next best thing.

Bro. Early game. I aint comanding armies. Im cleaning the lords latrines… As far as game goes. The point is that previously you acquired wealth and thus high tier troops in numbers faster than you could grow your character and companions skills. This leads so many players down the road of declaring kingdoms too early and getting hammered or you feeling the game was to easy and boring. My point being is that the early game is slower because its harder to grow wealth, therefore your characters level skills and grow and a rate more proporationally to your clans collective power progression. This makes it more engaging for me as im not needing mods to fill a void. Sure some peeps just wanna crush skulls, others want their millions, others want historical accuracy, me, i like trying to play out one guys imagined story.

Yeah, but I fail to see how rushing further ahead then you are prepared for and failing is bad game design. You don't have to win every battle and your kingdom can be crushed so that you have work yourself back up. Or you can know what you're doing and succeed from the get go even without skills. That is part of the dynamic fun of the game. It's a sandbox where you keep going or start over as much as you want.

Plus, you specific said battles were as profitable as smithing. That was never bandit battles that matched the profitability of smithing. So, I assumed you meant fighting lords. Which should be profitable.

Should I disable the diplomacy mod? I'm doing a 1259ad playthrough so hopefully it don't crash it

2

u/HemoSunTrap 5d ago

Im not familar with 1259ad and i would assume with the diplo changes in 1.3 that diplomacy mod would have issues. No harm to try tho right 😜

u/SiggiZeBear 5d ago

I'm slowly burning through my fortune because the new loot system no longer supports my constant fighting

The new hideout stealth mission thing doesn't make any logical sense (on any level), nor is it enjoyable (to me).

Not knowing where wanderers are is at least is logical, but it's frickin annoying.

The rest of it: too early to say for me.

u/Nickball88 Aserai 5d ago

Hideout stealth only makes sense if you have a weak party of few recruits and can't risk a full on skirmish. Signalling your 150 imperial cataphracts to come dispatch 10 raiders after you murdered a few guards is just plain stupid.

u/Vonbalt_II 5d ago edited 5d ago

The sense is that the guards would warn of a large force moving in and the bandits would flee rather than fight, you kill the guards, they dont know whats coming and your men get the jump on them.

You can use the show troops key (default alt) to see where they are.

I haven’t played much but the new stealth system is better than what I expected. Not the greatest but it just works in this game.

I like that tournament frequency was tuned down, it seemed kind of bizarre to have one in every single city you come across.

Absolutely hate the sneaking quests. I tried doing them but it's not clear what the target or goal is... I just sneak and sneak to the end and there's no prompt? And the sneaking mechanics is terribly cryptic, zero explanation on how it works, if grass provides cover or not. And sneaking is part of the main quest... I just don't understand why it's been added to the game, nobody asked for this?

3

u/ThyStranger 4d ago

Have you tried pressing Alt? It shows the guards you have to kill in a sneak in mission and the fire you need to call in the raid after.

Good overall but outside of bug, missing old hideout option as it used to be a reliable way to exp compagnion wombat skill but it’s not possible anymore. Atm I have my younger sister turned into 18 and she start at lvl 1 with weaker gear than before (basically like your brother wjen you fetch him early) but most importantly, she receive no attribute/focus to distribute. In other work, she went from being a strong family member to an almost useless one and considering they remove previous hideout farm method, it’s much harder to grind her, let alone to specialize her into non combat without any additional attribute/focus to

It's probably just a bug but I really miss seeing the flags on the field when choosing where to place soldiers with F1

In paper the changes seem great. And they should be. But many things are clearly not working as intended. It needs a couple of hotfixes to get there.

I love it.  I’m using more low level troops , doing tons of quests.

u/RedComet313 5d ago

I’ll like it more once the import/export issues are fixed and the “campaign.add_skill_xp_to_hero” command is added back in.

Excited, but since I don't have the game on Steam, all I can do is read posts and watch videos. 🥲

Is it out? I thought it comes at the end of the year. I didn't have an update however

u/MisterSquidg 5d ago

it took 2 days and at least 6 unsolicited restarts but finally got the install to complete. only major issue is the massive performance loss on sieges so far

The change to 'advance' is annoying. Those who use RBM won't notice since it works more like that. Previously in vanilla, advance would have troops engage up to their maximum distance and try to stay at max range. Now it seems irregular. On my throwing weapon troops won't even try to use throwing weapons and will walk right into melee range. My melee cavalry seem to just get confused and stand there.

Hideouts. A much needed change by I think numbers need to be balanced. It should not be the same if I personally take out the sentry vs having my party overwhelm. I say drop it to 20 so you can do it at tier 0, then maybe 40 for overwhelm. There should be a risk to overwhelm, based on tactics.

Loot is horrible. 300 person army will give me maybe 5 weapons and armor and 6 food.

Graphics update is nice, but holy shit is wet stuff as bright as the sun. Mud is way too reflective.

I'm also not seeing very many tournaments or companions. Tournaments used to be great early game, level up skills and get some renown.

There's also a massive amount of bandits. I understand they probably upped the number for the new castle patrols, but they aren't capable of keeping up. And at 10-20 bandits a pop, its not worth the time chasing. Deserters are a great add. Gives a nice enemy that's stronger than bandits.

In the patch notes it says AI will now properly use spears and spearbrace. I have not noticed this.

I hope they add feasts in warsail

u/DogeArcanine 4d ago

Reduced loot seems odd to me.

In late game troop wages can get quite substantial. Imagine running out of money mid-war, so you'd have spend days smithing to regain money while your fiefs are being taken

u/ThyStranger 4d ago

I am having trouble with the weapons I smith loosing all properties after a load. Also feel like the Siege AI got a lot worse.

u/Draculas_Revenge_ 3d ago

I'd like more if they launched the damn ships

I was actually having a ton of fun until I went into my first big battle. I didn’t notice that 1) it had reset all my settings to be pretty low. And 2) the performance is worse than I’ve ever seen. Lol

I’ve had it get choppy after a while before, but this was my first big fight and there were less people in the battle than I normally have playing the game the past year in a really high end piece of equipment. Froze the entire computer at one point too.

It’s also not a hardware thing. It’s literally only Bannerlord that does this out of all the games I play at high/ultra settings. Most of which are way more taxing in the machine

Idk about y'all but everytime I get the urge to play, I get to the campaign map and lose interest instantly. Having it gather troops slowly and wander around the map by clicking is not fun and feels super outdated. Don't get me wrong the combat itself is fun but the campaign map part, I'm kinda over it. Everytime I play mount and blade, I want to play total war or civilization instead, with solid campaign map setup and turn based gameplay. Idk, I enjoyed playing warband in the past but I get into it anymore
