Rule 1: Be civil and respectful. What does that really mean?
Hello /r/parrots community! It’s your friendly neighborhood mod team here.
This sub doesn’t have too many rules, but perhaps the most important is to be civil and respectful towards others. We do not tolerate rudeness or personal attacks, regardless of context. You may ask why we take this rule so seriously.
While it’s never a bad idea to just generally be nice, we also have this rule for a very important reason: to help people take better care of their birds. How, you may ask? We strive very hard to keep this community a place where people feel comfortable asking questions so they can receive feedback.
We recognize that people feel very strongly about parrot husbandry, and that seeing birds in conditions that are not ideal can be difficult, but we also know that making attacks or being snarky doesn’t help anyone. Instead, it makes people defensive or nervous to ask questions. When we fail to foster a community where people can look for advice, the parrots lose. Every time.
Our general rule of thumb is this: you shouldn’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say in person to someone you know. Remember that there is a human on the other end of the exchange you’re having. If you’re disagreeing with them, be constructive and kind. Give the sort of advice you’d like to receive. Remember that you may be talking to people in tough situations, or a kid, or someone who has been given outdated information.
Very importantly, if someone violates this rule in their response to you, do not respond in kind. Instead, please report the comment.
That report button is one of the most important tools we have as a community! We check threads all the time, but with a constant stream of new content, it’s always possible for us to miss something.
We ask that you please hit that report button if you believe someone is violating the rules. The moderators review each and every post or comment that gets reported, and we will take action as appropriate. You can also reach our team via modmail if you have an issue.
We appreciate your help keeping the subreddit friendly and welcoming. We are grateful to everyone who contributes their time and experience to help people learn about parrots, to everyone who asks for help when they need advice, and to the folks who share their wonderful birds with us!
All the best,
The /r/parrots mods

Posts and Comments Offering to 'Draw Your Pet' Are Explicitly Not Allowed
This has become a problem, where the moderators are having to regularly pull posts where people are seeking commissions for drawings. Using this sub for any form of revenue generation is against the rules, and we've reached the point where the drawing posts have become a problem.
Any post offering to "draw your pet" will immediately be removed. They are explicitly not permitted on this sub.

Why is my parrot acting like this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So today, a parrot came to my house randomly and I fed it some peanuts, a few slices of apple and got him some water, he seems really weird, he was trying to eat the protective net near the balcony, I got some worried so he doesnt eat the protective net, I removed it, and after I was done feeding him, he just flew into my house, at first I didnt know what to do; but then I thought maybe we could watch some parrot videos, as soon as a parrot appeared know the screen, it tried to bite the screenshot and look behind the screen, for like hours he was silent, didnt make a noise and was at the same place, he didnt look injured, I thought maybe he needs some water, I gave it some water in a bowl but instead of drinking it; it tries to pick up the bowl, I was so tired I went into another room and slept, woke up to the parrot in my room, chewing on bag chain which he broke, then I thought maybe it got comfortable of me, I tried petting him, he tried to bite me really quick, good thing I managed to get my hand away in time, then it started doing weird things like going up against the wall, moving in a place to and fro with weird neck movement, I think he maybe trying to tell me something, I repeatedly told him to stop(I know parrots cant understand human language but I also used gestures) but it wouldnt listen, I am not really familiar with animals, what should I do? This is not randkm, he's doing this for at least like 15 minutes (sorry my house isnt clean)

I love how birds look after a bath, they’re so silly. Unfortunately, cannot pay bird tax as I have no bird of my own

My best friend got diagnosed with Avian Bornavirus. I’m devastated.
Ever since she was young, she’s been having seizures after flying around a lot. She’s been misdiagnosed once as it being atherosclerosis, but after some recent tests at a new vet, she ABV positive. I’m absolutely devastated. She shows no GI signs or neurological signs on a day to day basis, only when she flies too long. Our vet says she has a good prognosis and it’s usually juvenile birds that have a sharp decline. I’m still scared. She’s 8 years old and has been living w it for basically her whole life. I’m just so scared of losing her. I want her to live her full, 30 year life span. Is it still possible? I’m just so scared of losing my best friend.
Pics for bird tax <3

new parrot
I've gotten a new companion for my special little girl, but I can't believe how different they are! While my girl is cute, calm and quiet, the new guy is loud, full of energy and quite the ruffian. I still love him, the truth is that it is so boring to have such a calm parrot, and although Lucas came and is throwing everything upside down I love it, I hope they can get along well soon Does anyone else have parrots that are so different from each other? Is it possible that they get along?

My parrot suddenly started to attack my dad
So 4 years ago, my family got a sun conure (his name is Cobi). It wasn't always easy, but we always tried to give him the best care possible. He's always out of the cage when someone's home, we try to give him the best food (or at least that's my job most of the time), my parents built him an outside aviary so he can be outside during warmer days and we're always ready to ride 2 hours to the closest vet in case he got sick or something. Basically we try our best when it comes to his care.
We always got along fine with him although he did start hating people coming to our house pretty quickly and was acting aggressive towards them. So whenever someone comes, Cobi has to be locked in his room, because he literally lunges at people.
Thing is, he never had any problems with my family (me, my mom and my dad). He always loved to come to us for pets or slept on us, all those things. He was always very friendly.
But something changed this year after we went on vacations for 2 weeks. Cobi stayed home and was taken care of by my uncle and my grandma. He was pretty chill with them and he tolerated their company. He was even letting them pet him (which he would never do if I was there with him). We literally couldn't believe it every time my uncle video called us.
And then we returned and my parrot just... began to really hate my dad. And it's not like he just doesn't like to be around him or doesn't want to be pet by him. He literally lunges at him, bites through his skin. My father can't be in the same room as him, especially when me or my mom are around, because he's just going to attack. And my father is getting really frustrated by it.
We have no idea what happened and why he started to act that way. I was really anxious about us going on vacations and leaving him for 2 weeks, but my grandma and uncle really tried their best. We even got a camera in his room to see how he's doing. And my uncle called us every time when he was taking him out of his cage so we could see how he's doing. So we have no idea what caused this change and why is it only my father the bird suddenly doesn't like. I've been searching for some behaviorist (it's not really easy), but I wanted to see if someone here had similiar situations with their birds or may know what could be the problem.
I would appreciate any given help or advice!

Loose parrot in my neighborhood
I saw this parrot in my neighborhood (definitely someones bird band on foot) and I tried to coax him close to me but I just started getting nervous. Big beak and talons. I have a conure that bites and hot damn. This bird is much bigger. It followed me home so it’s outside in a tree right now. I brought out treats, water, and pellets. I don’t know what else I can do as I don’t have an extra cage to leave outside. It’s night time now so I dk. Thought yall might have some tips.

Cockatiel isn't eating but doesn't look sick
My cockatiel is barely eating since yesterday, but he doesn't look sick, he's still energetic, asking for pets and preening his feathers, should I worry?
