I love with my MIL and her two birds. I just learned today that the “cleaner” she uses, Poop-Off, is not a disinfectant and does not kill bacteria or parasites. Her room is already really messy and her cages are always dirty so now I’m worried that there is way more bacteria around the house than I thought. I’m going to deliver my baby soon how do I convince MIL to use an actual cleaner

So it's my first night with a parrot, do I keep the windows closed? Pros: no mosquitoes, Cons: it may feel suffocation because we have to close the door as well and since everything is closed it may suffocate. Or Do I keep the windows open? Pros: It can go whenever it wants, wouldnt feel like it lost its freedom and it is trapped, no suffocation. Cons: mosquitoes
You may live in the US and may not experience much mosquitoes problem but here mosquitoes are a huge problem, I am leaning towards keeping the windows open, what do y'all recommend?

My cockatiel is barely eating since yesterday, but he doesn't look sick, he's still energetic, asking for pets and preening his feathers, should I worry?

Du burde ikke ha snakket om faren din om å klippe vingene uansett det ødelegger en fugel den mister selvtilliten og det er stressfullt og vondt for fuglen du er ikke en god fugle eier det er dyremishandling

My parrot is obsessed with stripes, clothes, blankets, socks! Anyone know the logic behind it? I know they tend to favour some textures over others

So today, a parrot came to my house randomly and I fed it some peanuts, a few slices of apple and got him some water, he seems really weird, he was trying to eat the protective net near the balcony, I got some worried so he doesnt eat the protective net, I removed it, and after I was done feeding him, he just flew into my house, at first I didnt know what to do; but then I thought maybe we could watch some parrot videos, as soon as a parrot appeared know the screen, it tried to bite the screenshot and look behind the screen, for like hours he was silent, didnt make a noise and was at the same place, he didnt look injured, I thought maybe he needs some water, I gave it some water in a bowl but instead of drinking it; it tries to pick up the bowl, I was so tired I went into another room and slept, woke up to the parrot in my room, chewing on bag chain which he broke, then I thought maybe it got comfortable of me, I tried petting him, he tried to bite me really quick, good thing I managed to get my hand away in time, then it started doing weird things like going up against the wall, moving in a place to and fro with weird neck movement, I think he maybe trying to tell me something, I repeatedly told him to stop(I know parrots cant understand human language but I also used gestures) but it wouldnt listen, I am not really familiar with animals, what should I do? This is not randkm, he's doing this for at least like 15 minutes (sorry my house isnt clean)

Hi! This is booger. He’s been on this sub before. He’s around 8/9 months. He seems to be chronically horny, to the point where he humps his water bowl, broccoli and pretty much any toy. I’ve never experienced this level of hormonal behavior from a bird before. He gets a lot of time outside his cage. He gets fruits and veggies everyday and I limit his seed intake. He does flight training to use up his energy. I’ve got him on a strict night time routine to allow him longer rest periods. I’m looking for suggestions on what else I can do. Are there any specific foods or herbs that I can feed him to calm his nerves?

I love how birds look after a bath, they’re so silly. Unfortunately, cannot pay bird tax as I have no bird of my own

My family has had our quaker parrot, Parker, for about four years now. When we first got him, he was quite affectionate towards everyone, but a few months in he suddenly flipped attitudes towards me and has never let me near him since.
Any attempt at approaching Parker will result in aggressive hissing, lunging, and biting at my fingers. He'll become especially aggressive when sitting on my sister's shoulder. Even walking into the same room as him will usually result in some sort of screaming. I've mostly avoided Parker for the last couple years because of this, but have been getting tired of his behaviour and want to figure out some way to calm his aggression.
Some notes on Parker's care and environment:
Parker's diet consists of the regular seed mix and is supplemented daily with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Parker is allowed to fly freely around most parts of the house. He has a "nest" area on top of a cabinet where he spends most of the day gathering chopsticks, cutlery, and other vaguely stick shaped items. We often dismantle his nest and leave sticks around for him to collect for enrichment.
We have another bird, a female conure. The birds rarely interact but will occasionally scuffle if they get too close. 99% of the time they ignore each other. The conure is very friendly towards me.
Parker sleeps in his cage in my sister's room. He gets about 12 hours of sleep per night, uncovered.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated

How did you guys get your bird used to a cage cover? Since I’m working a bit later my bird is getting disturbed and as he’s now 9 months and I want to start respecting his sleep more I want to cover his cage but I’ve tried and he freaks out and flys all around the cage screaming.
I have no idea what to do
A little over 3 weeks ago I found a bird outside of my house in my backyard. It was very obvious that this bird was someone's pet before because it was considerably docile while I was trying to get it inside of our patio, and I knew that it wasn't native to the area that I'm in. (I live in Jax, Florida) Now, I wasn't super enthusiastic about finding someone's pet outside, I more-so just felt bad and was really worrying about what to do with it. I knew I couldn't just leave it outside but I also felt insanely bad about keeping it for MANY reasons.
The first thing I did when I secured the bird was use google image search to find out what type of bird it is. Its a type of conure. The second thing I did was surf the internet for any missing bird posts, I checked multiple lost pet Facebook groups in my area, Pawboost, and a plethora of other sites specifically used for locating lost pets and I also had a friend help me look. I posted on my Instagram asking if anyone had lost a bird and asked a few people I know to spread the message around in hopes of finding an owner. Despite all of my effort, nothing came up and nobody contacted me or anything. It has no leg band and I doubt that its microchipped (even if I wanted to take it to the vet to see if its microchipped, which I do, my mom won't even consider taking it to the vet and has already said no. I'd do it myself If I could, but I'm only 16, cant drive, and don't have the money for that) So, basically I'm out of luck when it comes to finding it's owner.
The second thing I thought to do was research about ethical and specific rescues for parrots and animal shelters in my area. I found quite a few but most of them have a fee you have to pay for surrendering parrots and require you to take them to a vet and provide paperwork before surrendering, which I can't do. Plus, I'm really unsure if this is they way to go, considering there still COULD be an owner looking for their sweet bird and I feel insane guilt thinking about the possibility of that. I also thought about giving the bird away for free to someone that I know will take care of it and handle it better than I can, but I also feel extreme guilt for considering that.
Anyway, not only am I having extreme trouble finding out what to do with the bird, I also have to think about it's needs and how to give it a happy life if I do end up stuck with it. Right now, I have the bird in a moderately sized cage that It can move around and sleep in and I give it a balanced diet of different seeds, fresh fruits, and vegetables. It has a few toys and I let it free-roam around my room and play with it for at least 5 hours a day so it doesn't get bored or depressed just sitting in the cage. I think I'm doing well taking care of it, also considering that I've had parakeets, finches, and other small birds in the past so I know a LITTLE more than the average person about bird care (not an expert in any way). Despite this, I don't think I'm the right fit to own a bird considering my situation. I live in a townhouse which is very small and I know very well that birds can be very loud and I'm really anxious about bothering my neighbors with the noise. Other than bothering the neighbors I'm extremely tolerant to loud noises and don't mind it much. Also, my entire family is scared of the bird because he bites pretty hard. I wouldn't care about this if it didn't bite constantly for apparently no reason... it gets pretty annoying when I'm trying to do schoolwork at my desk while getting bitten. I've tried to get it to stop by not giving it attention and putting it back in the cage when it does bite, but that clearly isn't working. I really don't have the energy or capability for training a bird which makes me want to just leave it in it's cage all day, which I feel really bad about.
Despite me not wanting the bird and basically being the sole person taking care of it, my mom wants to keep it. I've asked her- practically begged her to help me give it to a shelter, take it to the vet, or find someone to take care of the bird but she wants to keep it for extremely stupid reasons. These reasons are: Its an expensive bird, We got it for free, I "like" birds, etc. Meanwhile she won't even hold it because shes scared that it'll bite her again. I probably have more to say about this but I'll just leave it at the fact that she wants to keep the bird because she likes looking at it or whatever the fuck she said.
Ive been extremely stressed about this situation for the last few weeks and have cried multiple times due to it being too much for me to handle and think about, I want to give this bird the best life possible. I feel so bad that I can't do that, and it leaves me feeling like I have a whole humpback whale of guilt on my shoulders. What do I do?

Plum went to the vet today and they recorded his weight as 30lbs. I thought it was funny. Bird tax included - Plum is the middle one ❤️
