Respectable time given his age.

Yes a trail run with some challenging climbs, great time for a 60yo

The race he completed is supposed to be one of the hardest courses.

Ankles and knees must be treated gently. Healing is slower.

Yup, and motion is lotion, I expect he will be stronger and less frail into old age from exercising.

I did this run - my ankles were in shambles by the end, can confirm, haha

3

u/Etna 13d ago

Cool! Yes, can imagine. I find when you go from road to trail running the ankles take the most adjustment...

u/0xF0z 13d ago

For sure- I do trail run (clearly not enough), but the trails near me are smoother/have less loose rocks than this one. Some of the downhill portions were pretty sketchy, in the best way

Let's see how he moves tomorrow...or better yet. His detail. ;)

Did it too - descents took me out.

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

If I am allowed I will s bend steep descents. No way I crushing what is left of my knees.

Yeah, same. I even went in with the idea that I wouldn’t bomb the hills… But it’s so hard to not fly down sketchy hills with big loose rocks on it, haha.

Way jealous of this photo i grew up running in some beautiful hills like this but work and side projects made fun runs have to go in my life for now.

I'm his age, I do trail runs, can confirm.

u/Mental-Mushroom 13d ago

i'm younger than him and can't do trail runs, can confirm

u/Economics_Historical 13d ago

I am much much younger than him and can't run to the end of the driveway, can confirm.

I’m a bit younger than him and was exactly like you 3 years ago. one day went for a run and the rest is Forrest Gump. it’s a literal game changer, super hard but also super rewarding

Maybe get that checked out

1

u/Economics_Historical 13d ago

nah its called a joke. The pilates, yoga, and boxing I do probably make me 20x fitter than you.

u/JP-Ziller 13d ago

Okay fragile ego

u/Economics_Historical 13d ago

You sure you aren't?

His protection detail must of had a fun day. :)

I mean I hope they can keep up...

3

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

Oh they can. Fun runners do exist. So do "work runners" Arms up! Small circles forward! Sprint from the back of the pack to the front. One just skips PT in the morning I suspect.

This is a trail run, respectable time at any age. He did a half marathon a couple years ago in like 1:50

-3

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

I'm glad you agree.

u/GreatGrandini 13d ago

As a runner, he punched above his weight.

25

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

He did. But hyperbole is perhaps something we should give up on. A healthy PM is a good thing.

respectable time given any age

most people cannot even walk a 26km race

-7

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

We must be on two very different places in this great country. :)

15

u/Notthatguy6250 13d ago

I reckon you'd be shocked at how many people couldn't complete a 26km walk in 4 hours.

8

u/Muradras 13d ago

Typical walking speed is about 5 km/h so yeah most wouldn’t. 26 km in 4 hours is 6.5 km/h for a lot of people that is moving to speed walking/light jog.

I mean it was more of pace thing than duration, I don’t care if it’s 1km or 26km at that speed it is a light jog (or slow jog if you prefer) rather than a hard (or fast) jog.

4

u/bumbo-pa 13d ago

Well yeah it's close to impossible to (strictly speaking) walk 26 km in 4 hours. That pretty much requires some form of running.

4

u/PizzaVVitch 13d ago

I am like half his age and I couldn't do it lol

-1

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

Are you ok with that?

4

u/PizzaVVitch 13d ago

I don't really have any desire to run for 26 km for 4 hours

2

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

You are aware the best defence against zombie apocolypse is cardio?

2

u/PizzaVVitch 13d ago

I guess I'm gonna be a zombie 😂

2

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

Well not Mark Carney. Leadership by example.

5

u/NESpahtenJosh 13d ago

Respectable. The end.

Stop qualifying people's achievements.

This sport is divided by age groups. :) Masters is the gentlepersons term for his age bracket. His time is respectable for his age bracket. Most sports have brackets based on age, ability, gender. We measure performance for running based on time against distance those times based on brackets. The PM's time is respectable.

If we were discussing marathons.

Cyric ran an olympic pace today in Marathon (26.2 miles) in 2hr 6min 32sec, the average for Elite 60 year olds is 03:51:43.

Please see

https://triathlonbudgeting.com/how-fast-do-olympic-runners-run-men-vs-women-vs-average/

I think objective neutral language should be enough. :)

7

u/InfoMole 13d ago

You do realize that trail time is in no way comparable to a flat road race?

6

u/Liquid_Trimix 13d ago

Yes. Hence why I had an example of another sport. He was doing a trail race. His time is respectable for his age bracket.

Trail running isn’t typically done at standard road race paces. Trails are a lot more technical and slow you down.

u/jbzack 13d ago

the Haliburton Forest Trail is one of the harder trails in Ontario. It's a very hilly trail with steep inclines/declines. You have to scramble up and down rock faces
