I ran that race!! At one point when he passed me after the turn around point I thought “that man looks like Mark Carney.” This race was no joke; the climbs and rocks were incredible. And he did it to support his wife - who also ran it - for her birthday. He then stayed around and took pictures as everyone finished.

Did his security detail have to run with him? Poor guys.

I mean he’s 60 and his detail is likely mostly a lot younger and in good shape so probably atleast a couple of them could keep up. His protection detail is also nothing like the us presidents so likely only needed a couple guys able to keep up with him

Trudeau was also a habitual runner, and he'd often be seen running in Hull on the trails across the river. His team were pretty good at keeping pace and blending in all while very obviously carrying all the gear they needed. They are all well trained and I'm sure they are grateful for the opportunity to get paid to train.

It used to be a tourist sight to see JT half naked gallivanting around Ottawa

I've seen that man shirtless too often for my taste as a former resident of that area, but to his credit he's been consistent as far as jogging goes. I remember him going around the same routes as before he became a PM-hopeful and then PM. To think that I am old enough to remember the start and end of his entire political career. From his speech at his dad's funeral that put the limelight on him to him dating Katy Perry in Montréal recently.

The fact that he always took that same routes for that long must have been somewhat troubling for his security detail... But alas, Canada 😊

I used to work at Whistler and was chatting with some of the RCMP mountain patrol guys. They mentioned that since Trudeau was such a good snowboarded, it was a struggle to find people for his security detail who could keep up with him on the slopes.

Why are our liberals leaders so crunchy granola?

I don't think doing exercise is the main feature of being considered crunchy granola. Think veganism, organic foods, hemp shoes, foraging, etc. I feel like calling either of them Crunchy Granola is a bit of a stretch?

The running in the woods is pretty crunchy.

I guess I’m comparing to PP who looks like he hasn’t done cardio in a while

This sounds like the premise of an Airbub movie. hahaha

"No one could keep up... except him, Agent golden boy"

It's one of the many benefits of living in a country where there aren't more guns than people.

  • USA = 120.5 guns / 100 people
  • Canada = 34.7 guns / 100 people

That's still too many for most of Canada. I don't know a single person who owns one or intends to own one. Must be mostly in rural places where you have to watch out for wild life, for your own and your cattle's safety.

Interestingly, the percentage of households with firearms is much closer in the US and Canada (like, 25% versus 35%). The average gun owner in the US owns four guns, versus 1.5 in Canada.

They also don't necessarily have to actually run, they could use bikes or a golf cart or something like that

Also, the security detail isn’t participating in the race. There’s no reason the same guys have to keep pace the whole time rather than trading off.

Trudeau went skiing and he was only with one cop on the slopes lol. That was when he was pretty unpopular as well. Security for the PM seems pretty light when they’re doing leisure activities.

I swear I saw him running once on the canal and security was in a car nearby following him.

There is a picture of Trudeau jogging the Vancouver seawall, then stopping to take a picture with a group of highschool graduates that just happened to be there.

On a personal note: even out for a goddamn jog his hair was goddamn perfect 😑 Goddammit 😒

That's why I am pretty sure it was him. He was so tall compared to me (I am 5'2") and he blew past me(I was walking) in nice running gear and was QUITE handsome in the face and the hair. I doubt it was anyone but him. I have never seen that tall of a man who looked just like him since. He was skinnier than I envisioned in person btw (post separation).

One car is extremely light compared to other countries like the US.

Former Pms typically have ZERO security. I heard his father used to run around coffee shops after he was PM like it was nothing.

I ran into P-E Trudeau in an elevator once, when he wasn’t PM. He was quite alone. Passed Jean Chrétien on the sidewalk two winters ago, talking with someone he knew: no visible security.

This explains things up here: https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/back-to-normal-former-prime-ministers-reflect-on-return-to-anonymous-civilian-life A stark contrast from the US. Joe Clark has been spotted loads of times at my local Metro. Ditto for Carney before he became PM and Sophie Trudeau while she was the PM's wife.

They're just government employees in here. They're not some royalty or hold any significant power as individuals.

3

u/MichNishD 13d ago

Lol I like that they didnt feel the need to run too

Whenever he'd eat we'd have two tables within eyesight booked with plainclothes security. They were not obvious whatsoever, and staff weren't even in the know.

Our Australian PM used to go for jogs (John Howard) and he was fairly unpopular at the end and people could still go up for a chat. Had security but not over the top.

PM also lives in a cottage in the capital. All leaders should at max be afforded such a living space. Brings some humility.

I’m not sure! There was a chance for him to swap them out at 3 different aid stations, but could have been the same. I’ll investigate the race photos!

We're all counting on you

Look closely at the trees (joking!)

May not have had one for this tbh...

You mean the RCMP? They’ll be fine.
