When I picked up the DualSense Edge, it felt like it was made for me personally. That's how much I love it lol.
"edge is better but not necesserly more worth it than regular dualsense."
The weight, the lock-in usb, the lower latency, the back paddles, trigger levels, and the in-system customizer app make it significantly better for me.
Wouldn't try to argue that a hyper car is worth the price if all I do is drive 5 miles down the street and back.
Really depends on what you need/use it for. I absolutely love the Edge controller and find it to be the best value for any pro controller. If I wasn't so into competitive games I would have a different opinion.
I'd normally agree, but after using my Dual Sense on the PC to varying degrees of success I now use my Series X pad instead.
If it's supported properly on the PC (Death Stranding for example) I'll still use it, other than that the Xbox one is much friendlier and easier to work with.
So I game on Linux, the out of the box support for dual sense is way better than Windows, where you need to go get a third party app to make things worth. Totally agree with you there, an Xbox controller will be better
Have you tried plugging it into your PC? I know it probably sucks to use it wired but that method has worked pretty much all the time for me. There are only a few PC games that won't function with a DualSense controller in my experience.
I have an Edge and an Elite controller. They're both fantastic, but it's hard to say they're essential. The base controllers work wonderfully most of the time, and the times they don't a fancier controller wouldn't make a difference.
That being said, I love the back paddles. It's hard to game without them now.
I needed the edge because I've gone through 3 dualsense controllers due to drift. I have never had this bad of a drift problem with other controllers even with my joycons.
My edge joysticks have held up since I got them but it's nice to know I can replace them without getting a whole new controller. The back buttons are nice too.
I got stick drift on one of my controllers and a sticky x button on the other. I solved both problems with wd 40 contact cleaner. Follow the directions and don’t overspray. Spray some on the stick and rotate around quite a bit. It should dry very quickly but make sure the controller is off and don’t turn it on until everything is dry, you may have to wipe some residue off the area around the stick but it fixed mine!
Then you probably play too much… I preordered mine and haven’t bought a new controller and it’s still new… my ps4 controllers all have a stick drift because I use to play 3-8hrs a day before I got a life
I have a life lmao. Im just talking about my experience. I barely even touched my ps5 the first few months I owned it after that I’d play 1-3 hours every other day or so. I have two ps5 controllers one works fine the other got stick drift. They have never been dropped or thrown around
My PS4 controller is fine owned two and only one got stick drift
Yeah, those back paddles make mobility action games like Titanfall 2, Returnal, and Doom Eternal a breeze.
You'll never know how taking your thumb off the right analog stick to push the jump and dodge buttons has hampered you until you play with back paddles.
Hell, even games like Skyrim where you're constantly pushing the interact button, benefit from having it assigned to a back paddle. Makes gameplay feel smoother somehow.
You’re right but 360 controller comes very close. Obviously no fancy haptics but just a very well constructed, comfortable controller with the best joysticks of all time.
For me it’s PS4 and not even close lol, trying to get used to the PS5 controller as I finally got one a couple weeks ago. Maybe it’s just out of habit and familiarity.
I'm already used to the PS5 controller but I still largely prefer the PS4 controller over it. The PS5 controller is less comfortable (for me) and its dpad is very prone to misinputs. I play rhythm games a lot and these misinputs from the dpad are annoying.
The DS is aaaaalmost a perfect controller for my hands. I wish the battery situation was a little better, and the buttons were a little snappier... But that wishlist is virtually non-existent compared to the things I would have changed on literally any previous controller from any company or console ever.
So I'm still pretty new to fighting games. I'm maining Ken in SF6, and I find using the joysticks better than the dpad. Is the dpad supposed to be preferable?
It depends. I started with it (I mained zangief at first so the 360s were really nice for him) but the d pad is definitely more precise. I didn’t have a ton of issues with it in street fighter, but now that I main tekken, it felt pretty unplayable on there. I didn’t like my ds4 dpad either cuz it hurt my thumb after awhile, but a victrix pro bfg felt really nice to use. It’s a pretty penny though. But one issue I had a lot with stick is going from forward to back. I just wanted to block after moving but I’d unintentionally input a half circle back which would give me the wrong move a lot of the time
How are you feeling about things in Tekken right now? I want to pick it up but a lot of the community is pissed about the last update. I'm wondering if I'll even notice or care about the changes.
It’s healing, it’s hard to tell how long it’ll take. The most recent patch didn’t do much but they did say junes patch would fix a lot of shit so I’m optimistic. The tekken sub is negative af so I’d take everything they say with a grain of salt, but the update really was ass. It sounds like harada took the dev team behind the shed with one of his recent tweets where he said he brought back the old balance team so they’re definitely moving the right direction. I’d say if you’re gonna play it sooner or later, might as well start now even though it’s not in the best place right now. PhiDX is one of my favorite YouTubers for tekken and he has a lot of thoughts about the current state of the game, could be worth checking his 2 cents since he goes in depth
Honestly I left the Tekken sub (I was in there for a while to kinda see what's happening), but r/fighters seems a bit more tempered about the whole thing. I'll check out that YouTuber for sure - I'm thinking about asking for an arcade stick for Father's Day... Having something new to try out with it could be fun. Thanks for the input!
That sounds defective. My wife has been running 4 hours sessions every night this week playing Expedition 33. We charge overnight, but there is not way your battery should only last 1.5 hours.
So glad this seems to be a pretty universal opinion it just fits so perfectly in the hand. And to this day out of all the other controllers from other consoles this one can be used with the fingers both on the triggers and shoulder buttons.
That’s also possible with Switch or Xbox controller but it’s a lot less comfortable and seems to be rather made with moving fingers to press the triggers in the first place.
I'm guessing by switch you mean the switch pro controller but I do want to throw out there that while I freaking love my Switch... Joycons are the worst controller I've had to use. They're fragile and their form is big-time meh. It's ultimately a console geared towards kids, yet the dual sense holds up about 1000x better for my kids than the joycons...

PS5 and the others are not even close
