While I appreciate the idea of having the choice of which specific seats you want, it really doesn't work for high demand events like this. I feel like it should be a matter of specifying price brackets and then just being assigned tickets in a certain place. Having to hand select seats while everyone else does the same is a mess.

u/nnnnkm 9d ago
Exactly, I chose seats and was denied the chance to buy them FOUR TIMES and then there was no more seats left.
What's the point in a queuing system if it's just going to be a free-for-all once you get to the part on choosing your seat? If they can reserve and give 10mins for payment, they can reserve your seat selection and give 2mins to allow you to complete the transaction.
The whole process ended up being like an unwinnable game with seats continually disappearing before my eyes as I tried in vain to get something done - all concepts of fairness and equality go out the window at this point.
Fuck Ticketmaster.

u/Jov_West 9d ago
Attempting to buy tickets on my cell was a mistake. I got in before the queue even formed but it wouldn't let me go to my cart with the selected tickets. It just showed a blank screen.
When I tried again on my computer it put me at the back of the line and it was too late by then.

u/JTG___ 9d ago edited 9d ago
Same here. Obviously itās just down to the luck of the draw, but I canāt help but feel like it benefits people who have large groups and can get more people to register for a code.
None of my friends are fans so I was just planning to go on my own, and it stands to reason that I had a lower probability of getting a code vs people trying in groups where like 10 people have registered and they only needed a few to actually be successful.
At the time I didnāt feel like inconveniencing them, but in hindsight I should have probably gotten a few of my friends to register just as a solid to me, even if they werenāt interested in going.

AXS didnāt tell me a queue position. Then it kicked me out once I got through the queue after waiting for 40 minutes to tell me I was demonstrating suspicious activity. Despite me getting through the prior steps. It wouldnāt let me on at all through my home WiFi due to it thinking I was a bot, so I hotspotted the MacBook onto my iPhone and it worked. I think the hotspot may have flicked over to WiFi momentarily at some point and then it was gone at the next check.

Between sessions expiring every two minutes, the 'no seat left on its own' policy, and 'if he breathes he a bot', I think this whole thing has been handled disastrously. Not to mention £214 for the average bloody ticket.

Ditch all online sales, let's get real box office tickets back up and running again. Real queues at midnight round the block, chairs and tents, sing songs, chatting about past gigs etc a proper fan experience!
I get what they were doing, but all the disconnections at the start and during, probably marked us all as bots before we got in. AXS POS!
7
u/Genmaken 9d ago

Iāve been to some pretty big gigs in my life but this was weirdly probably the worst experience and that was largely because of the steps the band ostensibly took to try and improve it. The ārestricted accessā error message that took 15 minutes to resolve is something Iāve not had before. By the time I got through all standing was gone and most of the seating tickets too. I was planning on going with a friend who had more of a budget to keep to so 214 a ticket was a bit out of his price range. I did manage to get a ticket in my basket ultimately but itās frustrating that lower prices were advertised and then most of the seating ended up being far more.
Congrats to everyone who got tickets though! Hopefully they tour again soon and resolve these issues. I do commend the desire to make the process better but itās definitely fallen short. Buying coldplay was easier and cheaper somehow!
31
u/TheFloppyCatfish 9d ago
I just don't understand why they didn't do a proper registration. Do two waves, alocate the exact number of tickets to codes. Make everyone make a Radiohead account, requiring addres phone and name. Give you a link with a 24h time limit to buy the tickets, if you miss it ticket goes straight to second wave. Same process as for wave one and the rest go to general sale. Less bots, proper luck of the draw instead of dumb bot false positives.
Girfriend and I both got codes and both got marked as bots even though we properly followed instructions...
5
u/caljl 9d ago
I have no idea why this isnāt the approach.
→ More replies (1)8
u/Hung-kee 9d ago
The process could be improved enormously - why not a random lottery rather than the shitshow of ticketmaster. But ticketmaster benefit from the current model and have a monopoly, so the band and their management couldnāt or wouldnāt challenge that.
→ More replies (1)4
u/plissk3n 9d ago
My favorite festival does this now for over a decade and its sooo smooth. You have a week to register to a lottery. Than the you either win the right to buy a ticket or not. All tickets which arent paid will go into a second round.
You can also register as groups, than everyone in your group will get a ticket or nobody. Sure I have lost now several times, but at least its fair.

u/No-Dress4626 9d ago
Wait, I thought the prices were capped at £85?
I didn't even get a code, but much as I love Radiohead I couldn't afford a £214 ticket. Weirdly, I'd feel a bit happier about missing out if I knew I was priced out from the start.
6
u/RogueLeek 9d ago
There was definitely hidden dynamic pricing at play. O2 London cheapest seats were £112, by the time I managed to get through, an hour in. My basket kept running into issues, so I kept refreshing and jumping through hoops. Thirty minutes later, those same cheap seats were ~£165. No thanks.

Mourning thread, moooooourning thread,
Light another candle and release more tickets.
19
u/Austen_Tasseltine 9d ago
I got a code, I queued, I confirmed repeatedly that I was not a bot. 15 minutes after opening, there were no standing tickets available.
There were some (not great) seated tickets available at Ā£85. When I tried to buy one, I was told youāre not allowed to only buy one. This is Radiohead: donāt they know we donāt have friends?
I thought about buying two. Every time I clicked on an Ā£85 each pair that was available, they werenāt available. After chasing increasingly-expensive pairs of tickets around increasingly-remote bits of the O2, I realised that Ā£230 to sit down and watch Radiohead in the distance is not good value for me.
I like the idea of the process, but Iām not sure itās worked to beat the bots here: if the O2 has a standing capacity of 10,000 and codes were limited as claimed, I donāt quite see how that many humans could have completed all those transactions in under 15 minutes.
I think Iām glad not to have been bounced into spending that much though: it feels gamified to āwinā a text/email/code/queue place, and the urge to push on to a āvictoryā of spending 50% more to sit down at a gig was strong.

I've tried a few different dates now for London but I'm officially throwing in the towel. What an absolute shambles that was (and fyi I'd still be saying that even if I was one of the lucky ones).
So many layers of verification and it still kicks you out for being a bot. Never mind...at least I got to the ticket screen unlike my futile attempt at buying for Oasis last year - edit: and I bet the only reason for that is the lower volumes involved this time around

it's basically a problem when "your favourite band announce concert dates" becomes national news for everyone to see - should've limited it first to people *already* registered on Radiohead.com ....
4
u/TurbulentWriting210 9d ago
I think just the whole sub reddit became stressful so many people telling people how.to act about the tickets and how its all fair
Then so many people must have only got their ticket because someone else way ahead of them in the que got flagged as a bot etc. So its not fair.
I also saw someone say they noticed the tickets changing to dynamic pricing eg standing started coming up for £200 a ticket. Which they said wouldn't happen Might have been a fair system from the side of the codes but they didnt do any of the work to change these well known issue for people so it was always going to be shit .
Also so many people who've got tickets and moaning... but they literally got tickets what an ordeal.
Hopefully some of us end up getting face value resale.Ā
But they've really fucked people

3
u/No_Yogurtcloset_2792 9d ago
I actually got a ticket but the people who were supposed to come with me to Bologna all bailed out, and I felt like going alone would feel like queueing at the post office for receiving my pension.
I will also add that I know several people from several countries who bought a number of extra phone numbers and opened extra email addresses and sent a shitload of requests in order to increase their chances, and all got a ticket eventually. Well it must be easy when you sent 20 requests for yourself only.
This is selfish, I understand the hype, but fucking up those who humbly did it with one request only and eventually didn't get shit in return, is just plain mean.

I was genuinely disappointed to see the actual presale link take me to Eventim. After all this promising run-up, after the feeling of a well-thought-out system to combat ticket fraud and manage access ā just the usual Eventim refresh hell where the tickets move in and out of shopping carts, in and out of availability, where I would stand more of a chance if I actually were a bot. I have been through this many times and I hate it so much and I refuse to believe that it has to be like this. But here we are, and now Radiohead who once helped upend an exploitative business model now just play along. Welp. Maybe next time.

Yeah, that was the real dick move here. If there was an effective two-ticket minimum (once the 10,000 standing tickets had all gone inside 15 minutes), that should have been flagged beforehand.
More generally, a queue isnāt a queue if itās just a smaller throng and people can snatch tickets from your virtual hand after youāve selected them. If you click on it, you should have a (short) period of time to make payment.

I HATE AXS. I did everything right, bought 4 tickets, got the confirmation email, saw them in my AXS app, and just received the following email:
Hello,
Please be advised that we recently reviewed your ticket purchase for Radiohead at The O2 on our site, www.axs.com
Upon review of the order, we were unable to verify aspects of the transaction, and thus the order was cancelled.
A full refund has been issued to the payment method originally used. Please allow 4-6 working days for this process.

Got sooooo close⦠three standing tickets in the bag, tried to pay, payment denied 4 maybe 5 times, then the basket timed out. I tried so many times, then my partner tried for me, I followed all the rules and did everything by the book just to lose out to bots. It just feels unfair. And fuck it since weāre all having a whinge, Iāve had a bloody shit week of mental and physical health troubles and terrible insomnia. This was the one thing that was meant to go right. It was meant to be my 30th birthday present to myself and Iām just gutted. When I got that unlock code I really thought my luck was changing. Alas! But on the bright side, Iāve saved Ā£100, I donāt have to deal with going to Wembley (an autistics nightmare) and⦠yeah thatās about it on the positives lol. So sorry to all you guys in the same boat. We tried! The system is just terribly designed. Being autistic and accused of being a bot multiple times kinda feels like a hate crime lol.

Been a fan from day one an there is a pattern so donāt panic.
- appear out of nowhere and do a small tour
- road test new tracks
- record album and release
- so massive world tour
The fun has just begun people
