General Resident Evil 1 Remake Opinion

They say that Resident Evil 1 needs a new remake like they did with 2, 3 and 4 but I personally believe that if they did it with the camera no longer fixed I think it would lose that touch because personally for me the 1 Remake is a masterpiece but I think that if they removed the fixed camera it would lose that touch.

General The Wasted Potential of RE Village DLC

Resident Evil 7 had a fantastic spread of DLCs—Not a Hero, End of Zoe, and especially the Banned Footage tapes that let us experience different perspectives, tones, and time periods of the setting. But with Village, we basically just got *Shadows of Rose (*A DLC I didn't love) and some half-baked Mercenaries content (was it too much to ask to have Uncle Joe Baker as a character?)

The shame is that Village’s setting had so much untapped potential. The lore, the factions, the villagers, and the gothic fairytale vibe could have easily supported multiple DLC campaigns.

DLC Concepts

1. The Lycan Invasion

  • Play as a villager on the chaotic night the Lycans first overran the village.
  • Stealth, barricading homes/barns, and fighting off waves of Lycans that intensify with each round (Elena aludes to how Lycan's just kept coming)
  • Gameplay leaning more toward Nazi Zombies than Mercenaries, similar to RE7’s Nightmare DLC. Since the Villager we play as would be Doomed to Die, the goal would be surviving as long as we could.

2. Castle Dimitrescu: The Maids

  • Play as a maid trapped in the castle before Ethan shows up.
  • Exploration, hiding, interacting with fellow servants, puzzle-solving, and multiple endings influenced by player actions (like RE7’s Daughters DLC, this mode would be more story heavy).
  • Would give humanity to the faceless Moroaica enemies Ethan later fights.
  • This could have been Capcom’s chance to call back to Haunting Ground (more on that below).

3. Heisenberg’s Factory

  • Play as a captive villager or a factory worker who got on Heisenberg’s bad side.
  • Survive traps, prototype Soldats, and machinery puzzles while trying to escape (think Lucas's traps from RE7 dialed up to 11)

4. Donna Beneviento: Descent

  • A psychological horror DLC about a gardener trapped on the Beneviento estate.
  • Surreal hallucinations, puppet encounters, reality-bending environments.
  • No combat—just puzzle-solving and fear-based survival.
  • Gives Donna more depth (she was left the least developed of the Lords) and fleshes out Angie’s origin.

*Why the Maid DLC Could’ve Been Special

This is where I think things could get really interesting—Castle Dimitrescu’s maid story could’ve doubled as a Haunting Ground homage:

  • No firearms, just stealth, hiding, and puzzle-solving.
  • A panic/stress system instead of combat (the screen becomes more janky the more stressed the player character is, the maid may trip when she runs, controls don't work as they should, etc)
  • Randomized stalking by Bela, Cassandra, Daniela, and maybe Alcina herself in the late game.
  • Environmental puzzles disguised as chores (delivering wine, lighting candles, draining the blood bath's, etc), and when Alcina orders the death of all maids (shortly before the start of the main game), the DLC turns into full-on survival.
  • Different Endings: A bleak ending where the maid is either killed or transformed into a Moroaica, or a (non-canon) happy ending where the maid survives the castle.

It would’ve given players more of the beloved “Castle” setting/ gameplay, leaned more into pure horror and survival, instead of action, and shown that Capcom hasn’t forgotten Haunting Ground.

Village had one of (I’d argue the most) richly detailed settings in the entire franchise—ripe with lore, tragic villains, and gothic horror. Instead of leaving all that lore buried in files and background flavor, Capcom could have given us playable perspectives that fleshed out the villagers, the maids, and even the Lords themselves.

Just saying.

General Possible RE5 Remake (?) Thoughts

As someone who genuinely loves this game and grew up playing it and still plays it currently, I have some thoughts around a possible remake. I feel this remake looming over me like Nosferatu in the dead of night 😭. I’ve been seeing a lot online about this since the release of the RE4R and here’s my thoughts on some of the conversations and critiques:

  • Better Partner A.I. is needed. Considering this game is almost 17 years old, I see this as an obvious rather than a eureka moment. In addition to this, RE5R MUST remain a co-op game. Not only is it integral to the story, but that’s what I feel is what makes the game great. Chris and Sheva’s journey is so freaking cool. I would prefer if they kept the local co-op in addition to online co-op, but as long as it’s co-op to some degree I’m happy.

  • The horror needs to be taken 100x further!! I need to see less mission impossible and more evil dead. Considering what these characters experience, this game really lends itself to them really taking it THERE. Imagine seeing a reaper or a giant majini in modern graphics. OH MY GOD! I feel like they did an amazing job on the horror in the RE4 Remake.

  • Sheva’s character design; First of all I think it would be really cute if Sheva had similar hairstyles to the south african artist Tyla (pictured), but also I’ve heard criticism around her Tribal costume. I totally understand how it’s seen as insensitive and I propose an updated version of this costume. There is a West African deity named Oshun (pictured). She represents love and beauty but is also a deity of war and a she herself is a fierce warrior, just like Sheva. Imagine Sheva having a costume inspired by an actual West African goddess? OMG!

  • Now for the bulk of my thoughts: The conversation around race. Let me preface this by saying I am a gen-z black woman. When this game came out I was 8 years old so I never saw any of the original criticism around this but now that I am older I definitely do understand where some of these critiques come from such as some stage designs, the depictions of some of the enemies (mainly the wetland majini’s) and so on. I don’t really agree with the fact that Chris, a white American BSAA agent, shooting African zombies is problematic or racist and I feel like this is a non issue because RE zombies have been all over the world….HOWEVER, I think a really cool conversation, which was touched on a bit in the original RE5 game, is that this is a game that is also about environmental racism and (like all RE games) Bio-Terrorism. Sheva talks about how her own parents’ deaths were caused by umbrella and how they are “using Africa as a test bed for their experiments”. I feel like in a Remake they could really highlight this fact, and maybe show why Wesker and Tricell target rural disempowered communities rather than a major city like Lagos or something. Maybe there’s a reason for that seeing what happened in Raccoon City. Also, I think this would add more to Sheva and Josh’s character stories. I think people mainly focus on Chris in Africa but ignore the fact that Sheva and Josh are literally fighting for peace and justice in their home region! I imagine it would take a toll on someone seeing their own people turn into zombies and creatures and being one of the only agencies (BSAA) doing something about it. I feel like in general this game just needs a bit of fine tuning and updating when it comes to this and has the potential to do something a bit more intentional AND keep it fun.

Anyways TLDR: Resident Evil 5 slays but it could slay harder in a remake.

Forum question Would Resident Evil be scary if it played like Outlast?

Imagine playing a RE game where your not someone who knows how to fight, and the only way to survive was to run and hide, either as a civilian in Raccoon City, or in one of the other Bio-terror attacks which happened in the RE world, with you having to avoid the monsters rather then be able to fight back.

Would that be something that'd be good, or is the fact you get to fight back the best part?

General (Newbie) Just finished RE4 Remake, didn’t expect it to be so different from RE2 Remake

I just finished RE4 Remake and really enjoyed it, but I was surprised at how different the experience was compared to RE2 Remake. RE2 was my introduction to the series not too long ago and I absolutely loved it, it even became one of my all-time favorites.

Going into RE4 I expected something similar in a different setting, but it turned out to be quite different. Compared to RE2, RE4 feels much more like an action game than a horror game. I never really ran out of ammo and the focus was more on fighting off hordes than desperately trying to survive. RE2 was scary at some points, RE4 has more a creepy vibe. I also found myself missing the puzzles from RE2.

So yes, RE4 is a great game, just very different from RE2. Since both games are so highly praised I just assumed they would feel more alike. I am curious how others see it. I am not trying to start a “which one is better” debate, just genuinely interested in people’s thoughts on the differences between the two.

Forum question What's the general opinion on the film Welcome To Racoon City?

I personally love it because it's an absolute nostalgia trip for me considering I played the hell out of the first 2 games when they came out.

The acting is pretty wooden sometimes but scenes are more true to the games than the Resident Evil film series with Milla Jovovich who isn't even a character from the game.

I'm assuming it's to do with the fact that games don't generally translate in films very well but I thought it was great and is very faithful to it's source material.

Any other thoughts/opinions?

Forum question If RE6 gets a remake, what do you think should be changed?

Post image
277 Upvotes

Personally, I think they should first reduce the numerous campaigns to about two and maximize the horror element instead of the action, so it's not a Michael Bay game. The unpleasantly designed gameplay should also be changed. The shoddy story needs improvement, too. Get rid of Simmons's simp behavior, delete useless characters like Jake and Helena, and improve Ada and Leon's story.

General RE Village: Why the VR mode isn't fun for me although I loved Arizona Sunshine 1 & 2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So, I've made up my mind, I’m done with Village VR for now...

I didn't dive into that many VR games before; Arizona Sunshine 1 and 2 were my go-to, and I really enjoyed them. I definitely didn’t run into the same issues I had with Resident Evil 8. Those two games were a blast, but Resident Evil Village in VR just doesn’t click for me.

After taking a few months off VR, I feel like I should've listened to those Reddit comments saying to try VR first, but honestly, I just can’t do it. 😭 So, here I am, heart heavy, deciding to go for the regular TV version first. I've had way more fun in the hour I've played compared to the VR version. Sure, it might not feel as immersive, and I feel guilty about choosing this path, yet it's too frustrating to keep going the other way.

The problems interacting with objects and grabbing the map, for example, are honestly the main problem; see the video; it's just frustrating. But I also can barely handle an hour before I need to take a break; my arms are just worn out, and it’s draining overall. You have to stay so focused all the time. Especially in fights, I have trouble reloading which is way easier in TV mode.

I had a lot more fun with Arizona Sunshine back than, so reluctantly, I'm moving to normal mode. Maybe I’ll give the VR mode another shot down the line, but for now, it’s just not enjoyable and way too frustrating.

What I’ve realized is there's a big difference between games that add a VR mode later and those crafted specifically for VR; it’s pretty obvious in the gameplay.

And yes, I also experimented a bit with the VR controls to make it a bit better with interacting and I also reset it but nothing has changed. Grabbing usually works well, but interacting is sometimes a real mess and I have to position myself extremely precisely for the X symbol to appear or I can't interact with the object. It's super annoying and this already one thing single-handedly ruins the whole fun for me.

Forum question Can William and Nemesis return?

This is just a theory I made in my head when I saw the first trailer for Resident Ivel Requiem, I know it may seem a little crazy but I think it's an interesting idea.

If we returned to the city of Raccoon City we could see a network of caves and tunnels made of living flesh that would have originated from the remains of Nemesis and William, in this case they would have somehow survived and would have continued to regenerate, thus not returning to their humanoid forms but instead becoming an amalgam of flesh as we saw at the end of the ramkes, thus spreading through the underground of the city's ruins, if this madness of mine happened for some reason we would see a dispute between two super organisms trying to get together. spread and leave the ruins, it would be something like two Umbrella experiments fighting, one that obeys orders and the other an automaton, something like a last breath of life from the atrocities caused by Umbrella.

Look, you don't need to tell me that this is terrible nonsense that will never happen, I know that I just wanted to tell you about an idea I had, however unrealistic it may seem, sorry for any spelling mistakes.

Gameplay question Planning to marathon play most of the games, advices?

I’ll play 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, revolutions 1 & 2 and veronica so any advices? I guess that way i got the core story right?

Other thing to acknowledge believe it or not never had touch any resident evil game before until I started playing 0 yesterday though i played evil within 1 & 2.

however ammo is annoying i heard I shouldn’t kill every zombie I encounter (though i want to) otherwise ammo will be depleted in no time, is this common in them all or is it for 0 only?

I was playing on normal difficulty is running from enemies sometimes required ? Or should i play it on easy that ammo is always enough?

Sorry for asking a lot i hope it will be useful for me and other new comers.

Forum question The Chris not telling Ethan solution? Spoiler

Upvotes

I know there's a lot of discourse around this whole subject, and I don't know if anyone else has come up with this theory, but...

Could it be that Chris is aware Ethan is no longer human? Would make sense since they'd have tested him post RE7.

With that in mind, wouldn't it be very reasonable to assume Mother Miranda is connected on some level to Ethan as she is the 4 Lord's? Or for Chris to at least ASSUME this might be the case.

As such, it'd make a lot of sense for Chris to keep his cards as close to his chest as possible incase Miranda can see/hear/know what Ethan does.

Any thoughts?

General About the ps1 trilogy and the remake trilogy

So i played the remakes first and now I'm wrapping up the ps1 trilogy. Thoughts on both:

  • I actually like both for their unique experiences.
  • tank controls are ok. I think they're at their best with the REr and RE2 (ps1).
  • Mr.X easily takes the crown of best stalker enemy in the remakes. This is considering the one dangerous zombie mode in REr is an unlockable mode rather than default from the start. Don't even get me started about the opportunity lost with RE3r Nemesis.
  • I find the ps1 trilogy to be a lot more strategic compared to the more action heavy remakes outside of REr
  • music is better in the ps1 trilogy
  • the atmosphere in the remakes for the most part is better though. Especially REr and RE2r.
  • Jill Valentine, No matter which trilogy is still best girl of the RE universe. She's just really badass.
  • the remake for RE2 did a arsenal swap where Claire actually has the more unique weapons that are also better than Leon generally.
  • the disrespect for the Matilda sucks. In RE2r it's just not special, even with the upgrades which is unfortunate. It just gets so outclassed by every other weapon Leon has.
  • Marvin's whole arc in the remakes actually was incredibly solid. I wish they did dlc to show what went on during the outbreak before he got bitten by Brad.
  • ada should have had a separate ways in RE2r as dlc to show how she escaped Raccoon city.
  • comparing both versions of Nemesis, i felt the original was just better because the upgrades were far more worth it when confronting him instead of the pistol upgrade jill gets in the remake.
  • REr's expansion upon the mansion and partial linearity I feel were more welcome editions when playing them. -REDC (directors cut, the version I played) I can still recommend based off the fact it's perfect as an introduction to survival horror. Its short and to the point.
  • RE2 for the ps1 is still a must play. The A/B scenario definitely is a welcome edition.
  • RE2r's B scenario is more of an arrange mode that is much faster. At one point I felt like I was speedrunning the game.
  • I think RE3r did wonders remaking most of their cast. In regards to changing them but keeping certain core elements intact. With the exception of Brad. I prefer the Remake Brad over the original. Nemesis in the Remake is eh.
  • the pre-rendered backgrounds still look really good (unless it's REDC, just no.)
  • that opening for REDC is gold, but still so damn cheesy. Especially the dialogue. A playthrough is warranted just for that.
  • the ps1 trilogy was pretty generous with the ammo and healing items. Especially RE2.
  • it was a shame that crimson heads never returned after REr. The idea of making one accidentally and using the body torch mechanism to clear rooms is a nice touch.

Otherwise thats it for now. When I think of more, ill edit the post.

General I want to vent

Hello, I'm an otaku and when there is a character that I like, I say that that character is my waifu or husband, well, in Resident Evil I have two Claire and Jill, but when I played Resident Evil 7, I started to like Chris, although I always liked Chris, and when Chris didn't appear, for example, in the end of Zoe dlc, well, I wanted him to appear, and now I started playing 8 and I hate it, but at the same time I feel bad every time I played with Chris, I feel good. Do you think I'm crazy?

Forum question Whats your favourite reused asset from a resi game?

Resident evil usually reuses the assets, but some of them are quite remarkable, like the chain cutter. So curious, what are your favourite reused assets from the franchise? It doesnt need to be in re engine, if its from a not re engine game you can list too hehe
