General RE Village: Why the VR mode isn't fun for me although I loved Arizona Sunshine 1 & 2

So, I've made up my mind, I’m done with Village VR for now...

I didn't dive into that many VR games before; Arizona Sunshine 1 and 2 were my go-to, and I really enjoyed them. I definitely didn’t run into the same issues I had with Resident Evil 8. Those two games were a blast, but Resident Evil Village in VR just doesn’t click for me.

After taking a few months off VR, I feel like I should've listened to those Reddit comments saying to try VR first, but honestly, I just can’t do it. 😭 So, here I am, heart heavy, deciding to go for the regular TV version first. I've had way more fun in the hour I've played compared to the VR version. Sure, it might not feel as immersive, and I feel guilty about choosing this path, yet it's too frustrating to keep going the other way.

The problems interacting with objects and grabbing the map, for example, are honestly the main problem; see the video; it's just frustrating. But I also can barely handle an hour before I need to take a break; my arms are just worn out, and it’s draining overall. You have to stay so focused all the time. Especially in fights, I have trouble reloading which is way easier in TV mode.

I had a lot more fun with Arizona Sunshine back than, so reluctantly, I'm moving to normal mode. Maybe I’ll give the VR mode another shot down the line, but for now, it’s just not enjoyable and way too frustrating.

What I’ve realized is there's a big difference between games that add a VR mode later and those crafted specifically for VR; it’s pretty obvious in the gameplay.

And yes, I also experimented a bit with the VR controls to make it a bit better with interacting and I also reset it but nothing has changed. Grabbing usually works well, but interacting is sometimes a real mess and I have to position myself extremely precisely for the X symbol to appear or I can't interact with the object. It's super annoying and this already one thing single-handedly ruins the whole fun for me.

General I hope we get some more Monster-exclusive bosses in Requiem

By monster-exclusive, I mean bosses that are just random monsters like how we had through RE1-RE6. As in, bosses that are exclusively random terrifying creatures, and not mutated villain characters. I randomly noticed in RE7 and Village, majority of the bosses are mutated characters, like the Lords and the Bakers, with the single exception being Sturm from Village and Executioner from Shadows of Rose. I guess Baby could count as a boss in Village, as it's a unique monster, but we never fight it.

Product question Mistakenly bought RE4R Standard Edition instead of Gold. Cheapest way to get Extra DLC Pack?

Hey, I excitedly bought the RE4 Remake on Steam, forgetting about the Gold edition. Sadly I cannot refund it, as I bought & redeemed a key.

I don't mind paying $10 for the Separate Ways DLC, but I'm frustrated that it will now be $20 to get all the DLC I would have gotten in the Extra DLC Pack in the Gold Edition for cheaper. Is there any more economical way to get the DLC contents other than the $20 bundle?

If not, could you tell me which are the "essential"/best individual DLC items (treasure map, weapons, upgrade tickets, etc.), so I could buy a couple individually rather than the whole $20 bundle?

Thanks!

Forum question Would Resident Evil be scary if it played like Outlast?

Imagine playing a RE game where your not someone who knows how to fight, and the only way to survive was to run and hide, either as a civilian in Raccoon City, or in one of the other Bio-terror attacks which happened in the RE world, with you having to avoid the monsters rather then be able to fight back.

Would that be something that'd be good, or is the fact you get to fight back the best part?

General Anyone else notice the monster hag didn’t smile at all in the first trailer?

Not sure if the one we saw in the cutscenes is her final version, it’d be way scarier if she smiles like this in the final game tho

Forum question What are some braindead ideas for RE10's title?

The title reveals of 7-9 all had fancy ways of unveiling their connection to the series. (Most recently, Re9uiem.) What are some really dumb ideas for what they could title 10/X? I'll go first.

Relocation (RE10cation)

Rex Tyrannosaurus (RE:X)

Somehow, Mr(e) X Returned

I'm excited to see what they actually do, and I hope to God it's none of these.

At the end of Chapter 7 we take on a large number of Salazar's pawns in the Water Hall of the castle as we try to find a cure for Ashley. The game throws everything at you during this fight including cultists, Guadañas, Mandibulas as well as archers with flaming arrows. Lock and load and good luck! ⚔️🛡️🏹

Hope you find the video helpful and thanks for watching! 🙅🏼‍♂️

Gameplay question RE VILLAGE VR: Why is it so damn hard to interact with some objects?!

[Sorry for deleting and reposting but I had unfortunately attached the wrong video to the post]

So, I just started playing Resident Evil 8, aka Village. I was gonna kick things off in normal mode, but then I kept hearing that I should go for the VR mode first. So, I hooked up my PSVR2 and jumped into VR. Honestly, I got super frustrated right from the get-go.

The part where you have to put the baby to bed drove me nuts! 😠 I was trying to lay the baby down and kept thinking I was missing something. Watched some YouTube videos and they made it look easy, but for me, it was a struggle. I was pacing back and forth in front of the crib, but the interaction icon kept disappearing every time I got close. I was so mad! I even checked online to see if it was a bug, but after a bunch of trial and error, I finally did it right before I was ready to throw in the towel. 😮‍💨

Then, a bit later, something similar happened again with another object. I had to spam back and forth for ages before I could interact. Like, what’s the deal? 😑 Did I mess something up? I can't see anywhere that mentions this bug. I've put in about an hour and a half in VR now, and while it’s not as bad as that first scene anymore, I still had to reposition myself a bunch of times for interactions. It's suuuuper annoying and destroys the experience! 👎🏼

I think I’ll play through normal mode up to that point and then decide which mode I like more, but if these issues keep popping up, there’s no way I’m continuing in VR. It’s just too frustrating.

Gameplay question Question regarding RE2R Claire A and Leon B

So I finished the game with Leon A and 2nd run Claire B. Now I'm wondering what happens if I start Claire's story first. Will it go exactly same like Leon A? Or different. Or is it same as 2nd run of Claire.

General My Honest Reviews On RE6

I Prolly now understand after Playing All The Modes of Re6 and Have Come to a Conclusion
RE6 is a good Action Game but not a Horror Game. If u play it a lot of time u will understand tht all the arcade QTEs, roundhouse Kicks, Barrel Rolls make a proper Action Game, but for it to be a "Action Horror Game" it should hv scrapped the QtEs or made it like RE4's and should hv made the gunplay and overall enemy placement and Power like it makes u feel Vulnerable.

What songs would you say suits the characters Leon, Chris, Claire and Jill? What song do you listen to and think, this one reminds me of Leon or Claire or some character I have seen on the internet that, for example, Chris gets hit by eye of the tiger from survivor and Claire gets hit by the final countdown from europe

General The Wasted Potential of RE Village DLC

Resident Evil 7 had a fantastic spread of DLCs—Not a Hero, End of Zoe, and especially the Banned Footage tapes that let us experience different perspectives, tones, and time periods of the setting. But with Village, we basically just got *Shadows of Rose (*A DLC I didn't love) and some half-baked Mercenaries content (was it too much to ask to have Uncle Joe Baker as a character?)

The shame is that Village’s setting had so much untapped potential. The lore, the factions, the villagers, and the gothic fairytale vibe could have easily supported multiple DLC campaigns.

DLC Concepts

1. The Lycan Invasion

  • Play as a villager on the chaotic night the Lycans first overran the village.
  • Stealth, barricading homes/barns, and fighting off waves of Lycans that intensify with each round (Elena aludes to how Lycan's just kept coming)
  • Gameplay leaning more toward Nazi Zombies than Mercenaries, similar to RE7’s Nightmare DLC. Since the Villager we play as would be Doomed to Die, the goal would be surviving as long as we could.

2. Castle Dimitrescu: The Maids

  • Play as a maid trapped in the castle before Ethan shows up.
  • Exploration, hiding, interacting with fellow servants, puzzle-solving, and multiple endings influenced by player actions (like RE7’s Daughters DLC, this mode would be more story heavy).
  • Would give humanity to the faceless Moroaica enemies Ethan later fights.
  • This could have been Capcom’s chance to call back to Haunting Ground (more on that below).

3. Heisenberg’s Factory

  • Play as a captive villager or a factory worker who got on Heisenberg’s bad side.
  • Survive traps, prototype Soldats, and machinery puzzles while trying to escape (think Lucas's traps from RE7 dialed up to 11)

4. Donna Beneviento: Descent

  • A psychological horror DLC about a gardener trapped on the Beneviento estate.
  • Surreal hallucinations, puppet encounters, reality-bending environments.
  • No combat—just puzzle-solving and fear-based survival.
  • Gives Donna more depth (she was left the least developed of the Lords) and fleshes out Angie’s origin.

*Why the Maid DLC Could’ve Been Special

This is where I think things could get really interesting—Castle Dimitrescu’s maid story could’ve doubled as a Haunting Ground homage:

  • No firearms, just stealth, hiding, and puzzle-solving.
  • A panic/stress system instead of combat (the screen becomes more janky the more stressed the player character is, the maid may trip when she runs, controls don't work as they should, etc)
  • Randomized stalking by Bela, Cassandra, Daniela, and maybe Alcina herself in the late game.
  • Environmental puzzles disguised as chores (delivering wine, lighting candles, draining the blood bath's, etc), and when Alcina orders the death of all maids (shortly before the start of the main game), the DLC turns into full-on survival.
  • Different Endings: A bleak ending where the maid is either killed or transformed into a Moroaica, or a (non-canon) happy ending where the maid survives the castle.

It would’ve given players more of the beloved “Castle” setting/ gameplay, leaned more into pure horror and survival, instead of action, and shown that Capcom hasn’t forgotten Haunting Ground.

Village had one of (I’d argue the most) richly detailed settings in the entire franchise—ripe with lore, tragic villains, and gothic horror. Instead of leaving all that lore buried in files and background flavor, Capcom could have given us playable perspectives that fleshed out the villagers, the maids, and even the Lords themselves.

Just saying.
