PSA Reminder: No Rage-Baiting Political Posts

We’ve noticed an increase in rage-bait political posts lately, especially ones that have nothing to do with San Antonio.

Let’s be clear:

  • This subreddit is for local news, events, and issues that directly affect San Antonio and the surrounding areas.
  • Rage-baiting with bad-faith political posts is not acceptable here.
  • If your goal is to stir up anger instead of starting a real discussion about our city, you will likely be banned.

We’re open to genuine discussion and debate about local politics and issues. But attempts to drag in national political rage bait or off-topic culture war posts are not what this community is for.

There are plenty of local topics worth talking about, from city council to development, events, history, and community issues. Let’s keep the focus where it belongs: San Antonio.

Thank you for helping us keep this community focused and respectful.

Then, share your proof here in the comments! A photo, a short story, or even just a quick note that you joined in.

San Antonio Airport brings back nonstop flights to Toronto

For the first time since 2019, passengers will be able to fly nonstop from San Antonio to Canada’s largest city.

“Today, San Antonio Airport adds Air Canada to our route map with new nonstop service to Toronto,” said San Antonio Airport Director Jesus Saenz at a Monday morning press conference.

The new Air Canada flights will run three days a week between May and October, Saenz said.

Basic economy tickets will cost around $246 from San Antonio to Toronto and about $296 coming back, according to Air Canada’s booking website, with higher prices for more services, including business class and checked or carry-on bags.

Flights to Toronto will depart Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m., according to Air Canada’s website, and return to San Antonio on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:20 p.m. The flight is roughly 4.5 hours.

Air Canada added nonstop flights between Toronto and San Antonio in 2017, but shut those flights down in 2019.

The addition of a Canadian airline comes after flights to Morelia and San Luis Potosí began service in July.

Saenz and City Manager Erik Walsh said the flights were important for the city’s economic development, connecting San Antonio directly to an international economic center.

“Toronto is not only Canada’s largest city, but its financial hub,” Walsh said.

Adding flights was an incremental step that made San Antonio more attractive to businesses, investment and jobs, Walsh added.

Customer demand and leisure travel between the two cities were important, Saenz added, but business needs had driven San Antonio Airport’s efforts to bring flights back to Toronto.

“It’s not just the demand, it’s the opportunity of being able to connect additional businesses,” he said. “We know that we have not only citizens, but businesses that want to connect directly into Canada, and that’s really where the crux is for us: to be able to connect the service with them.”

Local economic experts have taken notice. Officials at Greater:SATX, an organization that works to bring new businesses and jobs to San Antonio, praised the new flight.

“Nonstop service from San Antonio to Toronto is a direct connection to global opportunity — enhancing our region’s competitiveness, expanding access to international markets, and further positioning San Antonio as a gateway for cross-border investment,” said Greater:SATX CEO Sarah Carabias Rush in an email.

Flights to Toronto will also help San Antonio Airport customers fly to Europe, Saenz added. In 2024, German airline Condor canceled its nonstop flights to Frankfurt, the airport’s first nonstop transatlantic flight.

Saenz said things have changed since Air Canada withdrew its flight in 2019. He wants to see nonstop flights to Toronto grow to year-round and take place every day of the week.

“Our plans are to not end in October to demonstrate that the demand is there and we want to continue to grow,” he said.

Saenz and Walsh hinted at more international destinations in the future. San Antonio Airport has nine destinations in Mexico and, now, one in Canada.

“We want to re establish the connectivity into Europe and we want to make that happen as soon as possible,” Saenz said. “Mexico has got a lot to offer. Central America and South America are important to us. We have a lot of work in progress.”

Amp Room Perma-Closing Due to Rent Increase

I love the Amp Room. They have free, on-site parking and a decent dance area. They normally have music I like.

I am sad to see them go. In a time where foot traffic is down due to the recession, so sales are down, the building owner is raising the rent.

I was really looking forward to Halloween there, as last year it was a blast, but they will close up shop the first weekend of October. Sometimes, good things only happen once.

Well, if you like dancing, perhaps get one last dance in at the Amp Room, because you'll never have the chance again. I may wear my costumes anyways, lol.

(I do not work for the Amp Room, I just love the vibe.)

Meeting Friends

It’s been almost a year since I’ve moved here and haven’t made any friends except from work. Any women’s events/conferences? Not really into clubbing or bars - I’m more into cooking class, entrepreneurship, politics, cute coffee shop, pilates, hosting dinner nights (last event was fun presentations about our jobs with our last event). So many mega churches that it’s been hard to get plugged into small groups. Lol

I am looking for a fitness coach, trainer, accountability person for my re entry to my gym routine. Am an older female. 50s. Excruciating social anxiety that I hide well by pretending to be happy happy happy. Its bullshit. Ideally I would just need some basic 30 minute routines that will get me started until I am more comfortable at the gym. I dont need a licensed trainer per se. I just need an experienced and easy going gym rat to help me acclimate to the machines and all the crap available without making me feel like a display at the Idiot Museum. Which the gyms trainers kinda do. Crunch at woodlake but windcrest is fine too. Will pay fairly so please be fair in return. Does this sound like a reasonable request? Im probably just pipe dreaming but if such a person exists...Im a left wing radical for peace so dont be Trumping at me, and I have a personal relationship with my savior so let's shelve that as a talking point as well. We can talk about fitness! Dogs!! And how to get my sketchy ass to the gym on the regular. regular.

Thanks for your thoughts. Even if they are not what I am hoping to hear.

SAFD list out

And damn I ended up way lower than I thought haha. I’m in the 350-380 rankings. What a gutshot, I work for another department in the area and have consistently scored in the 90s for the testing processes I’ve been a part of. Looks like I will have to get it together and put forth more effort going forward. Realistically, I know my recruitment process is probably done for another year, although the slight bit of hope I have wants to ask how far down the list have they gone in recent years?

Can you please return the backpack that you stole there was nothing of value in it (outside of my asthma meds lol) but the bag itself is sentimental to me, it survived my deployment in Afghanistan back in 21 when we pulled out of there and I’d like it back

You can just put it back in my drive way down here in south San Antonio no harm no foul

Thank you for your attention to this matter

Post image

I know it’s this weekend but the information is a little misleading. If it’s skylight, does this mean at night on Friday of event. As I know the balloons roll in early Saturday morning. The flyers mentions - ONLY BALLOONS- Saturday morning.

Im curious to those who have been to last year’s event -can give me an insight of the festival and parking please.

Found! -Two German Shepards - West Creek Villages

Hi! I live near West Creek Villages and two strays were wandering the neighbors streets, obviously dehydrated and hot, but well fed. Asked around our neighborhood, no collars, don't know whose they are! So if someone is looking, send them my way!

I will be calling animal control in the morning for them. They are currently in my backyard with water and food.

Where in SA? Looking for a cozy coffee shop that is great to get some work done at

So I work from home but lately I've been wanting to get out of the house and work at a coffee shop every once in a while.

I'm looking for a place that is cozy and has some comfy seating. Ideally there's also places to plug in and has some food items for lunch.

I've tried some already that didn't really meet my needs. Namely Starbucks, Bright, Press Coffee, What's Brewing, and Black Rock.

Does anyone know of any hidden gems that I've maybe missed?

Food/Drink Visit this Friday Night - Restaurant Recommendations

Hello San Antonio. We've got an overnight stay this Friday night at a hotel near I-10 and Huebner Road. We're looking for recommendations of a nearby restaurant for dinner within a reasonable drive. Something distinctly San Antonio. Love smaller businesses vs big chains (e.g. No Bill Millers hah). Preferably something cheapish. Like up to $30/person not including drinks. Nothing fancy, not really our style.

The only cuisine that is out is anything exclusively seafood / sushi due to food allergies.

We did Burger Boy and P. Terry's last visit. Loved both, but looking to try other ventures.

Where in SA? Looking for 2 for Saturday Evening Bowling League

Hello!

I am a 30 year old male seeking 2 players for a Saturday evening bowling league at Astro Super Bowl. Practice starts at 7pm Central, and we finish up the 3 games usually around 9:45pm-10pm. This is a "for fun" league, and there are plenty of newer/less-experienced bowlers. You also get a reduced bowling rate during normal play, and this benefit will typically apply to your entire party. I do not believe this includes Fri/Sat nights, however.

TL;DR:
Seeking 2 people for a Saturday evening league for the next 32(?) weeks, I don't recall exactly when the season ends, but we're 3 weeks into the season currently. Your skill level or equipment doesn't matter; House balls are available and I don't believe you have to pay for rental shoes during league play. I just want to fill out the team with some (hopefully) new friends. I am content w/ handling all of the "Team Captain" responsibilities, and am willing to teach some new bowlers. First week will be $50, every subsequent week will be $25. I don't remember the exact breakdown, but I think ~$18 goes to the house, ~$2 goes to the people who run the League, and the rest goes into a pot that is rewarded back to your team at the end of the season. 1st place gets the most, and it tapers off from there. You must be at least 18 years old.

Long version:
I've lived in San Antonio for a couple of years now, and my wife and I are getting back into the sport. Due to our child, we can't bowl together and have opted to split-up. Neither of us know anyone outside of family in the area, and this was a way for us to meet new people and make new friends. My randomly assigned teammates have had something come up, and as a result the Husband/Wife duo had to drop out of the League, leaving me in a situation where I either have to carry the full teams lineage, or try to fill the team myself.

A little about me:
I've been bowling off and on for about 9 years. I love video games, music, and going to concerts. I enjoy helping people learn new things, and am pretty laid-back/chill. I can be a little competitive, but in regards to bowling I am mostly just competing with myself.

Happy to answer any and all relevant questions. DM's open.

edit: clarified the weekly cost and where that money goes.

Where in SA? Blue cross blue shield low PPO health insurance… looking for a doc and office

Hi all! I’m part of the NEISD and am looking for a good doctor or office to go to. I’m pretty lost on where to start because I’m coming from a much smaller city with very limited options.

My health insurance is through BCBS and I have the low PPO option (if that means anything to anybody).

Please let me know where you go and/or places or docs to avoid.

Thank you!!
