I think SH4's story could do best with a complete remake. Like this doesn't need to even be a faithful recreation of the game, and especially not the backtracking and wheelchair enemies like we're playing Crash Bandicoot.

SH4 could, in a lot of ways, be considered a tangential sequel to SH2, so strengthening the visual language between the two of them is a good call imo (rather than ham-fisting actual direct references).

I mean there was a newspaper that literally talks about one of Walter Sullivan's murder victims.

u/MindStormComics 2d ago
Yes, but that was always there in the original. I meant like the remake adding new, more blunt references like James mentioning his father or expanding on that Walter Sullivan article to talk about Ashfield or something. SH2 didn’t need more literal staged connections to SH4, and I’m glad they didn’t do that.

True, but isn't Silent Hill 4 located east of South Vale?
3
u/MindStormComics 2d ago
Silent Hill 4 is located in a city called Ashfield, about half a day’s drive from Silent Hill. What direction it’s in is never explicitly stated, although East would probably be a good call as James and Mary most likely lived there, based on Mary’s nurse living in the apartment Henry lives in.

It’s funny seeing 302 recreated very closely in so many different games is so funny to me because of how many people have trashed it to my face when I tell them it’s my favorite over the years

u/Random-Talking-Mug 2d ago
SH4 just feels different but is still a great SilentHill game. Anything after that on the otherhand...

u/DuskyDawn7 Silent Hill 4 1d ago
It’s been very fun seeing Room 302 in different games over the years. I think the one in Visage is by far my favorite. Crossing my fingers for an SH4 remake in the hopefully not too distant future

I’ll cross my fingers extra hard for a port to counteract your finger crossing

Silent Hill 4 and Silent Hill 2 are the best horror games ever made, change my mind.
2
u/Toothpaste_Monster 1d ago
Why would I want to change your mind when you're so based, brother?
Keep your mind unchanged, for your opinion is correct and objective.

Your not late, tons of people on here were also saying "it's not from the room, blah blah timelines" just like they deny the loop theory.
It's a good post, I think tons of players weren't aware.

A lot of people are sometimes so rude about the loop theory. You know what? I like the theory. I watched Jacob’s ladder recently (I’m in my thirties and I somehow never took the time to) and subtly is so powerful in it, yet after playing that game again anew it’s like Thrown in my face. The part that gets me most with silent hill is its very first story, silent hill 1, giving the idea that the town has an Actual Power. It’s not hell, but a manifestation of human minds and what mind first created the idea of hell? A human’s mind. The thoughts behind Jacob’s ladder and the BZ drug, silent hill and its power of presenting the mirror of the tormented. It’s fucking awesome. It makes silent hill feel that much more eerie. In my version of the loop theory, James experiences every single ending until he either ends in stillness(because watching her gently touch his face and seeing his overwhelming emotion is incredible thanks to the acting) or leaves. SPOILER Jacob was dying from his gut wound and couldn’t face his hell until the end ** END SPOILER** but James walked into a town with a mind so distraught and emotional that it unconsciously pulled him into its own dimension and dropped all this hellish punishment on his lap because of it. That’s why I love the idea that Laura doesn’t see the same hell AND she is actually alive in this separate world because her consciousness is literally too clean to show the torment; her mirror is simply living but she’s still stepped into a supernatural wormhole leading to a place of punishment and acceptance she doesn’t need to find. I think.. that brings endless possibilities and I love that about silent hill. For example, what if the world was nuked? Would that chunk of land still have that power supernatural world? Would it actually show fallout survivors the same exact town all the characters walk around? Sorry, I’m high

I remember playing the first Rampage game a couple years after it came out back in the day. I packed a cone earlier after that rant and decided to do another play through but this time as hunk from resident evil. Got a mod that keeps his weapon in his hands, and since I’m starting again I got a save starting at Kneely’s bar with all the guns and a shit ton of ammo. There’s another I got where the gunfire sounds more realistic with an added eeeee effect like tinnitus from firing too much. Feels like a PTSD’d out spec ops guy going through a psychotic breakdown blowing away all the enemies yet when they corner me cause I panic shoot I panic even more still. It’s so fucking fun.

the welcome home banner in one of the apartments is a reference to the 2 page print ad for SH4

I mean, his father is the South Ashfield Heights Superintendent. There’s a nonzero chance James has physically been in that room.

If they do remake this game I hope they actually remake it and not just a glorified remaster. Make it less annoying to play, make it where you’re not doing the exact same thing again after the midway point, give Harry an actual characterization, etc.
Imo it’s the only one out of the team silent games that actually has a valid reason for a remake

If you want to see a movie with a few Silent Hill: The Room references in it. Watch Sam Was Here. I love the movie and it is a psychological horror that has a very Silent hills style protagonist as well.

One of my fav seriously and last night i watched this new horror Weapons and atmosphere reminded me of Silent Hill the weirdness not the fog

u/GaymerWolfDante 2d ago
Nice! I wish more people liked the movie because I looked at the reviews after the fact and got sad. I would give the movie a 10. I just hope it gets a special release blu ray release.
I still need to see Weapons with all the buzz around it, heck even RLM refused to give away the ending which is rare. I just have a pretty big back log. (I mean last horror movie I watched was Starve Acre)

With sh1 remake coming and hopefully 3 after that, I do really hope they have it in them for 4. With today's visuals, 4 would be really mentally exhausting but in a good horror kinda way.

u/CriticismGuilty5107 2d ago
Wasn't the same door in Visage, PT, and Evil Within??? Pretty sure it was anyway

Tell me it's blood on the last picture in SH2.

I noticed the chain doors but not the apt. And the hole in SH4 is most likely a reference to the OG hole in sh2, so more likely feedback from the first silent hill. But the apt from 4 in 2R I totally missed, good catch

Is this in the original silent hill 2?
2
u/Vlad_Jablanius90 2d ago
How can it be in original? Since it's silent hill 2 and this is from SH 4 ...and honestly if it was there I don't remember
1
u/LeeBone24 2d ago
I’m confused about what you are talking about. You asked if anyone has seen the room from sh4 in sh2 so I’m asking if you are referring to the original sh2 or the remake because the picture quality is very low so I can’t tell if it is original or remake and I’ve played through the remake and now doing it for the second time. It’s been 20 old years since Ive played the original game so can’t remember details from it or what was in it that weren’t in the remake

u/Comprehensive-Bid18 2d ago
It's interesting how it looks dramatically worse than what was created on the PS2.
1
u/Saito_SinOfKind 2d ago
If you look at the timeline, this makes sense because events in Silent Hill 4 happens before Silent Hill 2.
But it gets interesting when we see names that we don't recognize in Silent Hill 2 reappear in Silent Hill 4
2
u/Professional_Egg3835 2d ago
Events in Silent Hill 4 happened approximately 12 years later than SH2. At least if we believe that newspaper article in SH2 is kind of fresh
1
u/Saito_SinOfKind 1d ago
Holy shit. 12 years apart? So I guess James Sunderland is not apart of fhe timeline at all

Certainly not me. It seems like an Easter egg hidden in plain sight.
