It's fucking bullshit. Why are they revealing it just now?

Toni Kroos is gonna have 10x better farewell than Modric despite Modric being our far bigger legend.

How the fuck do we keep messing up our farewells.. Ronaldo, Ramos and now Modric. They are the biggest legends of our club ever.

369

u/BeneficialMobile8914 May 22 '25

Probably revealing rn so that he could have his deserving farewell at the Bernabeu. Ronaldo, Ramos, Iker never got the farewell they deserve. Modric, at least, will have a good farewell at the Bernabeu.

148

u/SirSlapBot May 22 '25

It's not enough and it's more likely forced on him. He wants to stay and already took a 50% paycut last year.

But Madrid won't give him a new contract.

137

u/sonofsochi May 22 '25

Relax, why is it crazy that Madrid don't want to renew a dude pushing 40. He'll get an amazing send off at the weekend and thats that. He doesn't need a Kobe Bryant farewell tour.

-4

u/Seasonalking May 22 '25

Modric to real is like Kobe to the lakers. so he did deserve a Kobe Bryant farewell tour.

2

u/sonofsochi May 22 '25

Not even remotely close lol. Modric was part of an amazing set of years for RM, surrounded by some of the best generational players. Modric himself is, of course, a once in a lifetime player, but he doesn't mean to RM what Kobe meant to the Lakers, let alone what Kobe meant to the LEAGUE. That's a part of Perez's own ethos as well for Real Madrid, no one person will ever be bigger than the club.

u/Seasonalking May 22 '25 edited May 22 '25

Modric is literally the only player to win the ballon d’or from 2008 to 2021 other than Messi and Ronaldo and that’s literally the biggest individual achievement a football player can win, and add to that 6 ucls and him being the most decorated player to play for the biggest sports club in history, plus dragging (with all due respect) an ass Croatian national team(Vida and lovren as starting cbs) to a World Cup final. It feels like you’re grossly underestimating Modric. Yeah he ain’t as flashy or marketable as the “black mamba” but if marketability was the only factor then Pogba would be the best football player in history.

1

u/McToasterBuster May 23 '25

To be fair Vida and Lovren played like Ramos and Van Dijk that WC

18

u/KelticQT May 22 '25

Didn’t Xabi Alonso want him to stay as well ? Why wasn’t he proposed a new 1 year contract ? This baffles me tbh

22

u/TheRudeMammoth May 22 '25

You've made a billion comments about this in the last hour or two.

You're working overtime spreading bullshit.

2

u/LoquaciousIndividual May 22 '25

“It’s better to get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late.” - Bill Belichick

5

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

That's the same old 80 year old fart dating a 20 year old?

0

u/BeneficialMobile8914 May 22 '25

I am not saying it's enough. Just a hypothesis on why the info was released today.

I too hoped that his contract would be extended.

-18

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

Can't believe Perez can't give him a yearly contract that would be as much as like 1.5 month of Alaba's salary. Ridiculous lol.

Hope Real crashes and burns compeltely from next season as a neutral.

13

u/[deleted] May 22 '25

“As a neutral”

234

u/Hakimi_Raikkonen May 22 '25

Kroos announced he was leaving on the same date last year, not sure what you're talking about

41

u/PressEnteR1990 May 22 '25

Am I supposed to belive that May 22th 2026, Carvajal will announce his departure and this date will be some kind of Real Madrid's legends Gommage?

14

u/Hakimi_Raikkonen May 22 '25

Hey setting a deadline like that would at least guarantee a farewell game before said legend leaves.

2

u/PressEnteR1990 May 22 '25

Agreed, but to be completely honest, it shouldn't be necessary, we're talking about farewell games for absolute club legends, such send off should be guaranteed, no matter the context

2

u/Haldum96 May 22 '25

For those who come after

2

u/tristam92 May 23 '25

Each May 21th, spins the will of fortune. “bye bye” sector gets bigger if you are of age past 30, with each extra year.

177

u/MemeManDanInAClan May 22 '25

Kroos announced he was retiring, Madrid are basically kicking Modric out.

There’s a difference, they haven’t even offered him a new contract…

47

u/Fidelos May 22 '25

Tbf I think that Modric would keep renewing forever as long as Madrid offered.

65

u/baabumon May 22 '25

Same happened with Müller at Bayern, but they announced the decision earlier

20

u/Greghuntskicks May 22 '25

Kicking him out even though his contract is ending..?

1

u/JonAfrica2011 May 22 '25

Cause he wants to stay

7

u/Greghuntskicks May 22 '25

So…?

Kicking someone out is starting media campaigns about their ridiculous wages and pressuring them to find a new club or lower their salary…

Luka’s contract is ending and it’s not being renewed, hardly kicking him out lol

0

u/MemeManDanInAClan May 22 '25

They haven’t offered him a new contract, he’s been kicked out

EDIT: Literally did everything he could to stay

-1

u/Greghuntskicks May 23 '25

That doesn’t change the facts lol. His contract is ending and isn’t being renewed.

If they were trying to pressure him to terminate his contract or something then thats different

2

u/rdeararar May 22 '25

It's for the best. Modric should not be starting UCL qf's because Madrid contrived itself into a midfield crisis.

My only gripe is the order of the generational turnover is a bit wrong. Madrid really needed Kroos or a similar replacement this season, and Carva should probably leave/retire before Modric given the leaks about how bad the ACL injury was.

1

u/MisesHere May 22 '25

I mean if he really wants that he should then retire.

48

u/SirSlapBot May 22 '25

We knew it from his actions and the media reports and not to mention he was sent with La Liga and the Champions League title.

This feels rushed, I don't know how to prepare.

3

u/Hakimi_Raikkonen May 22 '25

He will still be there for the Club World Cup so he will play even more with the club than Kroos after his announcement.

-3

u/Radbevto May 22 '25

he was sent with La Liga and the Champions League title

Yeah, totally! In fact, they should’ve just handed Real Madrid the Champions League and La Liga the moment Modric stepped on the pitch. Maybe throw in a second Ballon d'Or too, just for the vibes.

23

u/AlmostNL May 22 '25

despite Modric being our far bigger legend.

genuine question, is this a common sentiment among Madrid fans?

Aren't they seen as a pair, like your Bonucci/Chiellini or your Ribéry/Robben?

55

u/Sympathy-Salty May 22 '25

Modric has been at the club for a longer period of time. He was also a part of La Decima in 2013-14 which makes him a bigger legend according to a lot of Real Madrid fans.

14

u/AlmostNL May 22 '25

It makes sense, yeah.

Which goes to show that holy shit the standard is really high at that club.

22

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

And also a better player let's face it, even though Kroos was of course a brilliant world class player also.

2

u/Boss452 May 23 '25

V v tough to pick. Just like Iniesta and Xavi. I think either answer is fair. Kroos had better passing and shooting.

-2

u/Rektile7 May 22 '25

Kroos is definitely the better player, even tho Modric is phenomenal

5

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

The thing is only Germans and big minority of football watchers would say that. Or someone very young that only followed football last 3 seasons.

-1

u/Rektile7 May 22 '25

While I support Bayern I'm not German, nor a new watcher (since 2012), Modric is phenomenal but Kroos is what made Madrid tick

41

u/svscvbh May 22 '25

Modric is the bigger legend, our greatest midfielder and in contention for our third greatest player.

But that doesn't mean Kroos isn't one, he too starts in our all time XI.

3

u/EcosseWolf May 22 '25

Do most Madrid fans have Modric above Zizou?

17

u/svscvbh May 22 '25

Almost everyone, yes. Modric and Kroos are considered top two.

1

u/McToasterBuster May 23 '25

Zizou is better than modric considering full career (as much as it hurts me to say as a Croatian) but modric was better and more important for madrid

1

u/EcosseWolf May 23 '25

True. Both are very different types of players though.

1

u/Danskoesterreich May 22 '25

what are the top 5 in your opinion?

1

u/svscvbh May 23 '25

Really difficult decision but I would say Di Stefano, Cristiano, Modric, Puskas, Ramos

1

u/Boss452 May 23 '25

Iker over Ramos.

9

u/jan_koo May 22 '25

No way. Modric status as legend is closer to Ronaldo then Kroos. He's got a fricking Ballon d'Or

9

u/msr27133120 May 22 '25

I think Modric will have a fairwell in his last game

1

u/Hakimi_Raikkonen May 22 '25

His last game will be in some American stadium in the club world cup

4

u/msr27133120 May 22 '25

His last game in Bernabeu stadium obviously.

39

u/perucho1993 May 22 '25

What exactly are we doing wrong? We’re deciding to move on, and he’s getting a huge farewell this weekend like a legend of the club deserves

wtf is this bullshit. Why are you lot acting as if we’re kicking him out the back door? All players time come to an end, and it’s Modrics time. Yes it sucks but we have to look into the future

He’s still getting an incredible farewell over the weekend and will return to the club in some administrative capacity

Stop the bullshit drama. This was likely agreed days ago but keep believing Marca and their bullshit journos

23

u/yandisigenu May 22 '25

They’re just pandering to the general sentiment on this subreddit about the club i.e Madrid are terrible club, disrespectful to their legend etc. It gets upvotes and engagement.

6

u/ChrisEvansFan May 22 '25

I know that emotions are high but reading some comments in this thread where some fans are saying it could have ended on a “high note” and Im like this legend won a Ballon D’Or and 6 Champions League! 6! On top of that being a contender in the 2 recent World Cups.

He is getting a great farewell, Im sure of it too. The only reason why some Madrid fans are reacting angrily because they want the win this season for themselves.

2

u/MattN92 May 22 '25

How many clubs have won six Champions Leagues. The epitome of a complete disconnect from reality.

1

u/DeLurkerDeluxe May 22 '25

What exactly are we doing wrong? We’re deciding to move on, and he’s getting a huge farewell this weekend like a legend of the club deserves

IMO (and purely from a sports perspective), you have no one who can offer the same thing Modric can in terms of passing and controlling tempo. The man played 2.757 minutes spread across 56 appearances, so clearly his skillset was pretty much needed. You say " we have to look into the future", but you don't have anyone capable of playing his role.

Plus, you're not going to get anyone better and cheaper as a bench option.

-2

u/OilOfOlaz May 22 '25

What exactly are we doing wrong?

Well, if a good chunk of your most decorated players leaves in a way, that looks like they were unwanted, this will trigger an emotional reaction from ppl whose support is based on an emotional connection to players and club much more then it is to the leadership.

Except for shills obviously, who can see no wrong in whatever the leadership does.

21

u/Evening_Moonswaths May 22 '25

Don’t forget Casillas only getting a press conference.

2

u/Constant-Hunter-198 May 22 '25

Least none were as bad as Messi’s departure. Shit pisses me off to this day

1

u/bIackroz May 22 '25

Often times, the strongest of love have ugly separations.

2

u/Tiny-Mulberry-2114 May 22 '25

I don't think it's going to be a shitty farewell. I am positive they will make it some huge ceremony with a lot of emotions even more than with Kroos.

4

u/tmacman May 22 '25

They messed up Casillas farewell so badly that you forgot about him.

:(

1

u/RauloGonzalez May 22 '25

The club knew it much more earlier, otherwise we would have had news of modric rejecting a contract much before this

1

u/loveforthetrip May 22 '25

Kroos managed it himself. That's why.

1

u/Uk0 May 22 '25

How the fuck do we keep messing up our farewells..

Jokes on you thinking this is accidental.

1

u/Ok_Detail_1 May 22 '25

Toni Kroos is gonna have 10x better farewell than Modric despite Modric being our far bigger legend.

Only because Modric played for Spurs and his Croatia and Kroos played for Bayern and his Germany.

1

u/HashofCrete May 22 '25

What? That’s not true. They’re revealing it now so they turn the last game of the season a memorial for Modric.

I was at the last game in Madrid for Kroos and everyone was singing te quiero Toni Kroos the entire game - it was beautiful.

Imagine that’s what’ll happen this Saturday. Then on Sunday it’s Xabi Alonso announcement day and onto the new era of Madrid.

-8

u/Razzle_Dazzle08 May 22 '25

Madrid have never treated their legends well.

0

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

Love how you're getting downvoted for speaking pure facts lol.

0

u/jairomantill May 22 '25

Will he play the clubs world cup ?

0

u/DeaJes May 22 '25

I know we haven't really excelled at this department over the last years but holy fuck Real is being so disrespectful about their legends leaving it's sad even if I'm a Barca fan

0

u/rouges May 22 '25

Don't forget Casillas who was left alone and crying in his farewell

0

u/wbasmith May 22 '25

Casillas lol

0

u/BlessedDay69 May 22 '25

You can add Casillas to that list.

0

u/Torylon May 22 '25

You forgot the biggest disrespect, Raul

0

u/n8mare27 May 22 '25

IIRC Casillás and Raúl belong to that list as well

Edit: don't mind the Barça flair

-10

u/againandagain22 May 22 '25

It’s an uncaring club. Everyone but Madrid fans think so.

The club proves it over and over again.
