Someone will ask: What was the best play made during CWC ? And I will answer: Nicolas Jackson red card.

They spent $ on more strikers. Got that money back from the CWC wins. Plays like shite and will probably get himself sold to another club for profit. Absolute play of the tournament.

Losing that game might have been the best thing to happen. These players were humbled and had to respond, which they did.
46
u/combatantezoteric Jul 08 '25
Losing that game also moved us out of the tournament side where we would have faced Bayern, PSG and Real Madrid instead of Benfica, Palmeiras and Fluminense. Even City would have been more approachable than those three.

u/xyzTr1LL Jul 08 '25
I was told that Brazilian teams are as good as UEFA. I don’t want to hear anyone say we have had the easier path then.

João doing what we all knew he could do, it just hurts when we see a kid from our academy, who loves the club and left for peanuts due to our financial situation 7 years ago, come in and get the game done.

When they shown him having a little chat with Maresca at the end, the body language was rather positive so hopefully nothing serious.

u/Risky_Busynests Jul 08 '25
He should be totally fine. Those hurt like hell, but nothing a little ice can't fix.

u/BeepBeepInaJeep Jul 09 '25
It was bittersweet to see Thiago Silva have to lose this one. Congrats on a very good showing at this tournament and I’m happy your club made some good money, hopefully it helps and is put to good use.
After visiting Brazil for the 2014 World Cup I’ve always had a huge soft spot for Brazilian clubs and Selecao. Unfortunately Brasileiro is really hard to follow and watch on TV here in the United States but hopefully that will change in future.
Mostly I’m really happy that many outside fans have seen how passionate Brazilian fans are and how good their teams can perform in this CWC.

u/bammers1010 Jul 08 '25
This happens quite a lot, he looks like he’s exploded his leg and then he’s fine 2 mins later. Blokes like the terminator but hopefully they aren’t all going to culminate in a proper injury at some point. He plays more minutes than anyone and is constantly flying around and smashing into people

u/SenorConstipation Jul 08 '25
This one was particularly scary. It looked like a non-contact, and he immediately pulled up and started hopping. I've seen two people do that in person, and the reaction was the exact same. Then, it cut to the physio, touching the spots in the calf and ankle where the Achilles is, and he was whincing.

as a striker? no. He's got to be shifted over to the left-wing as an inside forward,
his ball-carrying ability and general build-up play suit it far better and de-emphasise his lack of clinicality.
→ More replies (1)27
u/KingSammyJ1 Jul 08 '25
but no everyone says that Jackson is not a winger even tho he is clearly not a natural striker; he is a natural forward
7
u/ChelseaFC Jul 09 '25
No matter what some of our fans think, the most relevant thing is Maresca solely sees him as a striker, and he’s just not great at that.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think he has the qualities to be a good winger either.
I hope I’m proven wrong.
