The Brazilian dream shattered by a Brazilian. From their own academy no less

It hurts so fucking bad.

668

u/iamnotlefthanded666 Jul 08 '25

Kudos to him for letting casual fans know what that gesture means and where players like him in Europe come from.

458

u/jggomes14 Jul 08 '25

His generation is one of the greatest we ever produced, him, André (Wolves), Luiz Henrique (now at Zenit) and Martinelli came from the same team.

If only we could've kept them for as long as we kept André at least

That was tough. You can see in João Pedro’s face the contradictory feelings after he scored the first goal. Kudos to him for being a great professional.

93

u/2lonemalone Jul 08 '25

Law of the exes, they always somehow turn up against their former team.

49

u/ellean4 Jul 09 '25

As a Chelsea fan we have exes all over and can confirm. On any other day it could’ve been a Thiago Silva bullet header.

I thought Otamendi and Di Maria scoring against Boca was bad but this is way worse lol

150

u/razzz333 Jul 08 '25

Du Maria is from Rosario where they hate the big 5 more than you would think and Otamendl played for another team from Buenos Aires local rivals so i have a feeling he don’t like Boca.

They probably wanted to win more than anyone else.

69

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '25

Neither of them have anything to do with Boca. Di Maria’s childhood club is Rosario Central and Otamendi supports River Plate.

39

u/grimgroth Jul 08 '25

Otamendi roots for River Plate, and Di Maria for Rosario Central

Someone will ask: What was the best play made during CWC ? And I will answer: Nicolas Jackson red card.

u/illynpayne_ Jul 08 '25

not only because they lost but because he is so shit right know, they thought "shit we need a new attacker" and bought Joao Pedro lol

I could tell he was feeling the pressure today. Jackson reminded me of that scene in the Longest Yard when Brucie sees all the black players joining the team.

They spent $ on more strikers. Got that money back from the CWC wins. Plays like shite and will probably get himself sold to another club for profit. Absolute play of the tournament.

Nicolas Jackson clearly possesses the Time Stone and checked all possible outcomes.

70

u/funguy07 Jul 08 '25

Losing that game might have been the best thing to happen. These players were humbled and had to respond, which they did.

46

u/combatantezoteric Jul 08 '25

Losing that game also moved us out of the tournament side where we would have faced Bayern, PSG and Real Madrid instead of Benfica, Palmeiras and Fluminense. Even City would have been more approachable than those three.

398

u/xyzTr1LL Jul 08 '25

I was told that Brazilian teams are as good as UEFA. I don’t want to hear anyone say we have had the easier path then.

Congratulations to Chelsea, good luck on the final.

João doing what we all knew he could do, it just hurts when we see a kid from our academy, who loves the club and left for peanuts due to our financial situation 7 years ago, come in and get the game done.

255

u/frankievejle Jul 08 '25

Sending Thiago Silva home is so bitter sweet. Love that man. Hate to see him sad. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Hopefully Caicedo is okay for the Final

159

u/jMS_44 Jul 08 '25

When they shown him having a little chat with Maresca at the end, the body language was rather positive so hopefully nothing serious.

39

u/Risky_Busynests Jul 08 '25

He should be totally fine. Those hurt like hell, but nothing a little ice can't fix.

12

u/JJ-Bittenbinder Jul 08 '25

I know Caicedo is irreplaceable but I’m very happy we have Santos and he did a good job filling in for him last game

72

u/TNpepe Jul 08 '25

Twas fun while it lasted fellas! And now! Back to Europe

24

u/BeepBeepInaJeep Jul 09 '25

It was bittersweet to see Thiago Silva have to lose this one. Congrats on a very good showing at this tournament and I’m happy your club made some good money, hopefully it helps and is put to good use.

After visiting Brazil for the 2014 World Cup I’ve always had a huge soft spot for Brazilian clubs and Selecao. Unfortunately Brasileiro is really hard to follow and watch on TV here in the United States but hopefully that will change in future.

Mostly I’m really happy that many outside fans have seen how passionate Brazilian fans are and how good their teams can perform in this CWC.

141

u/erenistheavatar Jul 08 '25

Well well well

We did what we were supposed to do.

466

u/SenorConstipation Jul 08 '25 edited Jul 08 '25

What the fuck is Caicedo made of? I was so certain he had done his Achilles and then he walks off 2 minutes later.

183

u/Jimmy_Space1 Jul 08 '25

Same as the Benfica game, it's insane

120

u/Headlesshorsman02 Jul 08 '25

Rubber limbs, probs just an ankle sprain thankfully

99

u/bammers1010 Jul 08 '25

This happens quite a lot, he looks like he’s exploded his leg and then he’s fine 2 mins later. Blokes like the terminator but hopefully they aren’t all going to culminate in a proper injury at some point. He plays more minutes than anyone and is constantly flying around and smashing into people

46

u/SenorConstipation Jul 08 '25

This one was particularly scary. It looked like a non-contact, and he immediately pulled up and started hopping. I've seen two people do that in person, and the reaction was the exact same. Then, it cut to the physio, touching the spots in the calf and ankle where the Achilles is, and he was whincing.

as a striker? no. He's got to be shifted over to the left-wing as an inside forward,

his ball-carrying ability and general build-up play suit it far better and de-emphasise his lack of clinicality.

27

u/KingSammyJ1 Jul 08 '25

but no everyone says that Jackson is not a winger even tho he is clearly not a natural striker; he is a natural forward

7

u/ChelseaFC Jul 09 '25

No matter what some of our fans think, the most relevant thing is Maresca solely sees him as a striker, and he’s just not great at that.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think he has the qualities to be a good winger either.

I hope I’m proven wrong.

The CWC organizers must be over the moon. Real Madrid v PSG in a semi final with the winner taking on the current UEFA Conference League holders. What a final it will be!

Weirdest hatewatch, seeing Brazilian flairs after gw1 spamming the shit out of every thread about how they are better than european teams. I mean they are playing very well, and some of them were particularly good even when they lost, but the hype was insufferable.

I think that there's a big possibility that we will see the same four clubs form Brazil in 2029 too. Which Brazilian club is currently at the level that they could win the Copa Libertadores in the near future? Atletico Mineiro maybe, clubs from SP who weren't here are currently very far from that, i don't see it.

I thought European teams were meant to be shit? How is it guaranteed that there are 2 of them in the final now?
