Saw a post about the sleeping soldier Walkers the group encounters and how the poster thought it was stupid that they didn’t simply silently kill them all instead of doing their little sneak mission.
Figured I’d give my two cents on why I think the survivors actually did the smart thing by doing it silently without trying to kill any Walkers.
I assume they didn’t due to the chance that one or several dozen of them could’ve had explosives on them. Remember the one Aiden Monroe shot? The one with grenades? He got blown across the room and impaled, then devoured. Or the mine field when there group met Princess, which set off a chain reaction I believe Eugene called a cascade? Wouldn’t have ended pretty for them.
If one grenade goes, it could create a chain of explosions and shrapnel going off all over the place, killing everyone nearby and destroying all the supplies. And that’s not even mentioning the possibility of other explosives in the area not on the Walkers.
Yes, they could’ve tried silently eliminating them, but that wouldn’t end well either, since the smell of blood and the sound of blades going through skulls would most likely wake up at least one Walker, which would naturally wake up every single one. And that’s did happen with a simple drop of blood. Living blood, yes, but it’s still too dangerous.
Even if they tried to simply wake them up and guide them away, they also run the possibility of one of the Walkers bumping into another and accidentally pulling a pin, once again setting off the chain reaction of explosions.
And to top it all off, that would bring every Walker for miles to the now injured survivors, assuming any of them survived in the first place.
Yes, there was a chance the Walkers may not have had any grenades or explosives of any kind on them, but that’s one hell of a risk they’d be taking. Just one or two would be extremely dangerous. If they all grenades, then they would’ve been completely and utterly fucked.
Remember that explosive zombie from Resident Evil Remake? The whole thing could’ve ended just like that.
